When my husband and I moved into our first home way back when, the living room walls were covered by pink wallpaper with grey pine cones. It was a big room. Its size was the best feature of an otherwise unremarkable house. There was a LOT of wallpaper – and it was hideous.

We told ourselves that we weren’t going to be there long so it wasn’t worth changing it. But every time I walked into that room those pink walls with their grey pine cones assaulted my soul. I’m a Libra – what can I say?

SEVEN YEARS later we moved out of that house. In order to sell it, we redecorated a few weeks before we left forever. The room looked magnificent, but we had lost out on the opportunity to enjoy it.

That experience taught me a powerful lesson – treat nothing as “temporary.” We are living in the here and now with no guarantee of a tomorrow. We need to organize our lives with that in mind. These days, whenever I contemplate ignoring something because “it’s only temporary” all I have to do is think about pink wallpaper with grey pine cones, and the job gets done quick smart!
