Reading in Public
Because the Tarot goes right to the heart of people's lives, I am very wary of reading in situations that compromise people's privacy. When I was starting out I did a couple of readings live on radio "for fun" that made me realize that you can't depend upon a reading being light and entertaining. People don't understand that their most inner information may emerge. You can't edit people's lives.
My first caller was having an affair that he was keeping secret, and the second one fancied her boss, who was listening to the program. Talk about washing dirty linen in public! It was an eye opener, and I vowed never to do it again! I am also very cautious of people who want to listen in on each other's readings. I always warn them of the possible consequences.
A couple of years ago I was part of a New Zealand television program called The Profilers, where "strangers" were presented to a panel of psychics, astrologers etc and we were supposed to uncover the key event that had changed their lives. They were warned beforehand that we might uncover things they didn't want known, but one man didn't listen, and abruptly withdrew from the show when it was clear that we had discovered that he had AIDS. Even though it would never have been mentioned on camera, he was so freaked that he quit on the spot.
Think carefully before requesting "fun" readings - find ways to make sure that they stay fun, so you don't end up in embarrassing and potentially hurtful situations.
