Sleep On It
Making good choices is often a challenge, particularly when there are a number of possible options. It is easy to become confused and uncertain, and to lose sight of what our intuition is telling us. The head can over-rule those feelings that come from our inner knowledge, and we can become muddled and perplexed.
The problem arises because we throw all the information we have into our internal computer (the brain) at once, and then expect it to give us a sensible answer. In the computer world there is a saying – Garbage In, Garbage Out. It is the same with our brain. But if we take the time to give it the information it requires in an orderly fashion, it will reward us with much better answers to the questions we are asking.
For example, let us say that you have to choose between which of two jobs to accept. There are pros and cons around both options. Before you go to bed at night, picture one job clearly in your mind’s eye. Think about all the information you have concerning that one option only. (Forget about the other job for now). Visualize yourself accepting that job and starting work. Go to sleep with the idea in your head that you are taking that job.
When you wake up, pay attention to how you feel. Do you feel happy and eager, or have you perhaps awoken with a sense of unease or even dread? Take note also of any dreams you might have had. Again, how did they make you feel? The next night, do the same for the second job. Then pay attention to what your feelings are telling you!
If you are still uncertain, you can refine the technique still further. Again, take one job only and use one night to examine the option of taking the job, the next of rejecting it. Then do the same for the second job. This time the process will take four nights, but you should be a lot clearer of where the balance of choice lies. There may not be a “perfect” answer, but you will be a lot more certain of what feels best.
If you use this technique in making all significant decisions, you will become better at seeing the options in your choices, and will be learning to let your brain work for you rather than against you. Your subconscious always wants to help you. So let it!
