The Battle of the Bulge
When women embark on a weight loss program, it’s generally because they want to lose the fat tummy and the thunder thighs. That’s where the weight really shows. There’s a reason for that. The body is designed to store fat in the good times as a reserve against the bad times, and that’s the first place it gets put. Unfortunately, it’s also the last place it leaves, which makes weight loss programs so frustrating.
It’s the reason why all those crunches and sit ups don’t work miracles when it comes to the tummy. You can’t lose weight selectively. It has to come off in the same order it went on. If people have liposuction, and then continue without a life style change, the fat just gets stored somewhere else. Instead of bulging stomachs they’ll have bulging arms and chubby bums instead!
Exercise helps burn fat and tones muscles, that’s for sure, but don’t expect exercises that claim to target fat in certain areas to actually work! There’s no quick fix. It will take at least 16 weeks before you even start to see real changes. The models who demonstrate that expensive equipment that ends up gathering dust in the garage did not create their slim tummies just by using that ab crunch machine. They ate a lot of salads and probably had a slim build to start with.
If you want to win the battle of the bulge, then accept the fact that it’s a whole body issue, or you’ll set yourself up for disappointment and quit before you see real results. Remember, it’s a myth that you can target certain areas. A flat tummy and thinner thighs are the end result of a sensible diet and exercise program.
