"The present is a rope stretched over the past. The secret to walking it is, you never look down.Sean Stewart, Perfect Circle, 2004

When you are driving, you need to look in the rear vision mirror from time to time to make sure that danger is not approaching from behind. But if you concentrate on what's behind without paying attention to what's ahead, you're going to end up in a ditch or wrapped around a lamp post! The best drivers drive with their eyes on the road ahead with only the occasional glance behind them.

Life is like that too. We need to have a bit of awareness of the past, but if we make it our sole focus, we're never going to get anywhere. We'll crash and burn. So walk life's tightrope without looking down all the time, or you'll fall. It's a great view from up there!
