One of my favourite movies is "The Knight's Tale" starring the late Heath Ledger. At one point in the movie the would-be knight's father tells him: "you can change your stars." We hear a lot about fate v. free will. So - can we really change our stars?

The way I would describe it is this. It's a bit like the debate about whether it is heredity or environment that shapes us. Heredity gives us the building blocks, but environment allows us to influence what we do with them. Another way of putting it would be that fate deals us the cards, but free will gives us choices as to how to play them. A skillful player can win with a poor hand. An unskillful one can lose even with good cards.

A reading can give you a lot of insight as to which cards you have, and what the outcomes might be if you play them in certain ways. It can help you to make the best of what you have. Yes, certain aspects of our lives are determined by fate, but it's free will that makes life really interesting....
