What you SAY is what you GET!

Affirmations and the power of the spoken word have been a time honored metaphysical spiritual cornerstone for many of us.  As stated in the Bible, “Life and death are in the power of the tongue.” Perhaps no truer words have ever been spoken.

Why is the power of the spoken word so important and how do affirmations shape our reality?

Words are like prayers.  Even if we don’t realize it, our words are a petition to the universe, sent into the ether and into the heavens, and often manifest exactly what our words declare.

Also, our subconscious mind is always listening and absorbing.  The subconscious mind, being power without direction, picks up whatever it hears, and carries it out.  Whether good or bad, the subconscious mind sends out into the ether and to the heavens the commands it receives, pushing these commands into physical manifestation, especially when reinforced over and over.

The great metaphysical master Florence Shinn cautioned to “watch your words at all times.” I have always tried to advise people to indeed watch their words carefully, as the power of the spoken word is dynamite!  And just like dynamite, the consequences can be miraculous, or disastrous. Whether casual words we utter without thinking, shouting angrily, joyous words, words of hope, prayer, or spoken affirmations, our words do indeed help to create and carve out the reality we experience and manifest.  So many of us have hurled out powerfully negative words when mad, and because of the intensity behind that anger, manifested exactly what we DIDN’T want.

When there is negativity within our subconscious, reprogramming that negativity can be achieved through affirmations.  Clearing away the negativity is necessary to open the atomic power of the subconscious to receive and carry out new positive commands.

I like this example:  When you write a computer program and click “save,” that program is stored in your computer.  It stays there till you rewrite it, or modify it.  The same can be said of the subconscious mind.  Our words are recorded within, until we reprogram what messages have been recorded.  When the subconscious mind becomes cleansed of old negativity through our positive spoken word, the power of the subconscious can be utilized in a positive way!

Florence Shinn also advised that we should only use our words for three purposes: “to prosper, heal and bless.”  In addition, affirmations need to cover all the bases.  Affirmations must be stated in the present tense, as there is only NOW in spirit.  Since linear time (time as we know it), is an illusion, we must pierce through the illusion of time by stating our requests in the NOW!  This cuts through the illusion of time, propelling our affirmations into the eternal NOW where our requests take form, then drop back down into the physical plane. So stating an affirmation in the future does little or nothing to manifest, as in saying, “I will be rich,” when for example: “I am rich” is a much better affirmative.  An affirmation should not include contradictions or contingencies, created by the words “but,”  “if,” or “maybe.” A simple declarative is powerful!

Affirmations can be utilized in three different ways: spoken out loud (preferably with no noise in the background), written down, or said mentally to oneself.  Always do affirmations with a matter of fact confidence – think this is the way it is!  Never doubt the power of the spoken word, as it is you eternal ally when used correctly.

I would like to take this opportunity to share a personal success story:
A couple of years ago, I was in a very painful work situation where I was being harrassed by my boss on a daily basis - the agony was unbearable. Jim prescribed a powerful affirmation that he personalised to my specific situation to help bring relief - I fervently repeated the potent statement for perhaps a week...and much to everyone's surprise I was abruptly whisked into a new job. I was saved by this magical affirmation within days!!! Having experienced such success I continue to work on an assortment of affirmations on various aspects of my life. Thank you Jim.

I read a book years ago called "Hung by the Tongue" by Don Gossett.  He also penned "What You Say is What You Get".  Words are dynamic: for good or evil.  We choose which ones we want.  CHOICE. I am a Christian, so this makes sense to me.  I had to change my whole way of thinking because of Gossett's book, so when I found this site, I automatically assumed you ripped Don off.  Maybe not.  If it's in the Bible, it's for everyone!  Praise God!
