7 Ways to Keep your Relationship HEALTHY!!
Feeling stuck and stagnant in your relationship? Not uncommon if you've been together for a while. Equally not uncommon is when you want it to move forward, but you have a reluctant partner that has become rather complacent and a little too comfortable with the status quo of the relationship. So how can you spice things up? Here's my "to do" list that will get your relationship recharged and actually moving!
1. Laugh a LOT. Come on, does everything have to be so dramatically intense that the two of you can't laugh anymore? When you're stuck in traffic, or can't find your way to a destination - don't get disgusted with each other, make a joke of your navigational skills (or lack of).
2. Do the Unexpected. Predictability is the major cause of stagnation in relationships. If you get up and do the same routine day after day, react to things in the same way - you both become predictable. Where is the element of surprise? Just think when you were a kid and how excited you were when a surprise came around!
3. Don't act your age. Chronologically, it's just a number. Unleash your inner child every now and then and PLAY. A good pillow fight (combined with laughter) can be great fun! And, don't forget there's "always room for jello".....
4. Be kind. A small act of kindness can go a long way. What do I mean by this? If you are out and about, give a call to your partner and ask - "Hey, I'm out and about do you need anything?".
5. Make a Date! Yes, have a specific night when you go out on a date. If you've been together forever, or what may seem like forever just remember when you first started dating and how exciting it was to find the perfect thing to wear, fix your hair, put on some make up, a little perfume - and go out. Set aside one night that is a DATE night!
6. BE sexy. Most relationships deteriorate starting in the bedroom and go progressively downhill when things become too predictable or routine in the bedroom. Light a few candles, sift through the Frederick's catalog (or Victoria's, although Fredricks is a tad cheaper....um, not that I would KNOW this- heard it through the grapevine). Which leads me to my final "tip" for you....
7. Turn OFF the T.V. in your bedroom. It's really difficult to get romantic with Anderson Cooper interviewing border patrol agents. IF you do have a T.V. in your bedroom, turn on a nice jazz music station or something that gets you "in the mood".
There are many ways to keep your relationship alive and well. Try these "vitamin tips" to boost yours to another level. Most of all, HAVE FUN! You have a partner for a reason, so work with him/her to make sure he/she STAYS in your life!!
Make it a GREAT Day, and think about how you can get your relationship into a healthier, "unstuck" space!!
