I AM sorry, I MUST VENT

   
I am a HUGE football fan. I love it, and I'm sure that I'm not alone. I look forward to drafting my fantasy football team each year, and I was beyond thrilled last year when I drew Michael Vick as my quarterback. I HOPE I do NOT have that option for the 2007 season.

I absolutely cannot stomach hearing one more atrocity that Michael Vick has allegedly done to dogs that he allegedly raised to allegedly fight each other. It makes me physically ILL, and I want to scream about the injustice to those poor animals! Yes, this is a country where unless proven guilty, you are innocent; but come on - 19 counts???

As I was watching CNN, a man the crowd thought was Mr. Vick, walked out of the courthouse and was booed with deafening jeers. We are a nation of dog LOVERS. In Arizona, our famous Sheriff Joe has imposed some of the strictest laws in the country for animal abusers. What Mr. Vick & Company are accused of goes so far beyond "abuse" it literally makes me physically ill.

I cannot imagine my Spikey or my Carley met with such a fate, as I'm sure that those of you that love your animals find this equally reprehensible.

According to Webster's Dictionary: 

Dog –noun
1.a domesticated canid, Canis familiaris, bred in many varieties.

In MY opinion, the "men" that stand accused also fit the definition:
5. a despicable man or youth.

Ok, I'm done. (She says as she quietly steps off her soapbox, and places it in the corner).

I completely agree with you.  Its a sad, sad world that we live in where our trusting and furry little innocent friends are tortured and abused for entertainment purposes. We live in a society in which many don't treasure and protect even children.  I wonder what happened to him along the way to cause his heart to be so hard.

Sheriff Joe ROCKS!  I have several fur bearers in my family and have been so angry about the events that have been in the news lately.  I don't know personally what can be done to stop it.  I do know that no cashish of mine will be going to anyone or any organization that I can know of that supports that kind of thing.

I agree with all of you.  It made me physically ill too, I have 2 sweet affectionate Dobermans that I would do anything for, this makes me sick to do this to anmials, his "alleged" actions were barbaric.  Vick is a animal and he should be locked in a steel cage with a 1200 pount Gorilla and let them fight til the death.
I hope everyone called and email the NFL commissioner, they had a hotline set up for this.  Also do the same for his endorsements.

Sharon, the NFL Commissioner was on ESPN today and said that the NFL absolutely would not condone this type of behavior, and not hesitate to kick ANYONE out of the league for participating in this criminal underground "sport". I agree with the Gorilla sentence, should he be found not guilty.

I am so glad someone posted about this for it made me so ill when they showed the picture of the battered dog on CNN.  I was weeping over it and wondering how in the world anyone could possible take pleasure in such a sport.  It is a sickness of the soul to enjoy anothers pain especially an animal given into our care.  This really makes me lose faith in those who indulge in this type of thing and cockfighting is the same brutality.  Thanks for taking a stand against it and I am with you in total agreement.

It's no coincidence that DOG spelled backwards is GOD. To ME, our animals teach us unconditional love, and they hold our hearts in their little (or big) paws. I don't get it, either, Rosie. Sad, indeed.

My dog, Samson, is my third son.  I cannot imagine treating him or any other dog or animal with such cruelty, just as I cannot imagine treating my human sons that way.  I too am glad you have written about it, although I must admit I only skimmed your blog because it is too painful to read, see, or hear about the vile and despicable acts he committed against these dogs.  When I see coverage of the story I quickly switch to another channel, especially if my sons are in the room.  For this reason, I haven't been following the details of the legal case against him, but I would hope they get him where it hurts: in the pocketbook.  

Now I'm off to give Samson a big hug!!!

L, on "Access Hollywood" last night, the story started out showing him with a photo of one of his puppies. When it switched to a video tape of an under-cover operation "sting", I couldn't hit the remote soon enough when I heard the painful cries of these dogs. As one congressman stated from the podium "BARBARIC!! BARBARIC!!! BARBARIC!! ... I totally agree.

PS: Spike's registered name is "Samson in disguise with glasses"...My best friend's dog, Samson is a German Shepard, and although Spike didn't get his size, they sure have identical personalities! (Pssst, don't tell Spike he's only 4lbs.)

Jane, you're absolutely right about this--it's disgusting. Unfortunately, Vick is one of those celebrites who believes he is entitled to use and abuse anyone or anything that comes into his life because he can afford to buy them.
I'm surprised you drafted him for your FFL...he's always come off as too slimy to root for to me.  I have two criteria when drafting: that he's the best available, and that he's someone I can honestly root for.  Guys will say I draft like a girl, but, hey, I've won three leagues, so neener-neener!
I'm so proud of you for being an FFL gal!
As for Vick--I wonder if he has ever known the unconditional love of a dog.  I can't imagine he has, otherwise, he would have to be souless to do something like this.

Hi, Kathy - congratulations on winning 3 leagues! (I've won once). I do "autodraft" because it's just easier for me, and I don't take it real serious. So, I got Vick, and he racked up some good points for me.

There are definitely celebrities that believe they are above the law, but if you notice the trend lately is clearly sending the message they aren't!
