It's a Jungle out there, Jane....

My word  people are rude! Have you noticed this, or is it just me being overly sensitive? I was steering my cart toward the check-out line yesterday at a discount department store when I was literally cut off by a woman with two screaming kids and a cart stacked with stuff.

I figured that she probably wanted to get out of there as soon as humanely possible, but would it have been so difficult to ASK, "Hey, do you mind if I go ahead of you?"  Furthermore, since I had a fraction of what she had in her cart, I easily could have been checked through and out of there before she could say "shut up" to her kid one more time. Her slightly embarrassed look gave away that she knew that she was not acting like an ideal role model for her kids.

I notice this type of behavior all the time, not just at the grocery stores and malls, but at restaurants, the gas station, even movie theatres.... everyone assumes their time is so much more valuable than mine! They push and push to the point of being just down right rude about it. (And I won't even touch the topic of freeway drivers).

The "Higher Road" would be to step aside, not say anything, maybe a small understanding smile (Ok, so you were raised by javalina pigs in the desert), be patient, send them love. They obviously want to rush their way through everything. Yes, this would be the higher road.

Unfortunately, the on ramp for the "Higher Road" is too far out of reach . Sometimes, it's just too hard to get out of the ego space to get to that "Higher Road".  The temptation to say something pointing out their rude behavior over-rides that "Higher Road".

However, if you can hold on to your ego, and take that Higher Road, many times we are granted the reward of seeing instant karma in action.

What a joy!

"Excuse me, ma'am? I'll be glad to take you over here! And oh, gollie, since you're our 30,000th customer this year, you win a 100.00 Shopping Spree".....

I'll be available for your calls today!
Sending you angels,
Jane

I like you Angel your posts are funny, but the real question is the higher road really a higher road or is it another attempt by maybe a higher conscious ego to say well I am better than you I don't need to behave so rudely as you did.  See, I am exercising patience and love just as jesus did something you know nothing about.

I can just feel that coming into the mind of many people who try to take the higher road.

I mean the reality of it is do you want to allow the expereince to create stress in your life and negativity? Or would you rather allow the experience to create appreciation and understanding?

We are so addicted to the negative side of things and have been conditioned that way it is an automatic response.  Thus sometimes getting out of one reality to get into another one can take some doing.

All it is is just practice.  After all when I first tried to make a basket in basketball I was not all to do so everytime.

BTW how do you know your that the instant karma you are wanting to see isn't the same instant Karma that made her cut into you.  After all if yo ubeleive in instant karma don't you need those experiences inorder to validate it?

Just my thoughts...

You bring some interesting perspectives to a very simple post of my personal exasperation. I agree with your analogy of taking the "higher" road, that often times it does become a "spiritually snobby" way to interact. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for you comment.

Me, personally, I don't find mentioning of karma, higher road and ego a very simple topic.

BTW it is not that I don't understand where you come from.  Many times in the past from living in Boston, I wish I had a beater car and everytime someone cut me I would just allow them to hit me instead of breaking or swerving out of the way...

But then I realized for me it was getting to be too much..and I started letting things go...and the incidents fell and quite happening so frequently.

And you know what, I then started accidently cutting people off driving.  Not intentionally and with that I realized that probably atleast 60-70% of the time it is becuase people are in their own little world and focus intently on whatever they are doing or whatever they are thinking.

Of course there are always drivers out there that yes think they are better than you and their rights out way yours.  But they can think that, I realized I much rather live in peacefulness and spread appreciation and joy around then try and control everyones behavior so it meets my own.  that is way to stressful.

just some of my thoughts -Angela
