It's a Jungle out there, Jane....
My word people are rude! Have you noticed this, or is it just me being overly sensitive? I was steering my cart toward the check-out line yesterday at a discount department store when I was literally cut off by a woman with two screaming kids and a cart stacked with stuff.
I figured that she probably wanted to get out of there as soon as humanely possible, but would it have been so difficult to ASK, "Hey, do you mind if I go ahead of you?" Furthermore, since I had a fraction of what she had in her cart, I easily could have been checked through and out of there before she could say "shut up" to her kid one more time. Her slightly embarrassed look gave away that she knew that she was not acting like an ideal role model for her kids.
I notice this type of behavior all the time, not just at the grocery stores and malls, but at restaurants, the gas station, even movie theatres.... everyone assumes their time is so much more valuable than mine! They push and push to the point of being just down right rude about it. (And I won't even touch the topic of freeway drivers).
The "Higher Road" would be to step aside, not say anything, maybe a small understanding smile (Ok, so you were raised by javalina pigs in the desert), be patient, send them love. They obviously want to rush their way through everything. Yes, this would be the higher road.
Unfortunately, the on ramp for the "Higher Road" is too far out of reach . Sometimes, it's just too hard to get out of the ego space to get to that "Higher Road". The temptation to say something pointing out their rude behavior over-rides that "Higher Road".
However, if you can hold on to your ego, and take that Higher Road, many times we are granted the reward of seeing instant karma in action.
What a joy!
