Music to Your Ears: OVER IT....

Getting "over it" isn't as easy as your friends will tell you- "Hey, get over it". Sure, not a problem for them to say. They aren't the one that had their heart ripped out and thrown under a bus - or feeling like they were left in the middle of the dance floor at the prom. And, can they really identify with YOUR pain????

You've pined away for months, hoping that Mr. Right (that turned out to be Mr. Wrong) would be coming back into your life- declaring his undying love for you - and live happily ever after. One day, you get mad. You get angry. You're infuriated. Looking at the calendar - you realize all the days and nights that you've wasted the energy crying and emoting for a person that has moved on without you.

Here is the most helpful and empowering method to release your anger and resentment: Music. "Hunh?" (I know you're wondering). Yes, MUSIC, folks! Lyrics can express the words, to a perfect melody, that you've thought about, but haven't been able to create.

Wait - I'm not suggesting that you listen to an entire collection of Barbara Streisand singing about "The Way we Were" or those sad country western songs that claim "I'll never get over you"... no, what I'm urging you to do is go through the songs that empower you the most. Avril Lang is brilliant at expressing how you should  feel in her song "I can do better". (And this is seriously a GREAT song).

Go through a list on your musical download site, pull up songs with great titles, take a listen, download them... then plug in those ear buds on your ipod. Make time on a daily basis to go for a walk or listen to what you've downloaded.

The most incredible shift starts to occur: you get over it!  And, you know that you're over it when you see him and that punch in the gut doesn't happen. Your heart doesn't jump up into your throat, and the best miracle of all: you feel NOTHING. No anger, no resentment, no joy, no fear, no hope - just NOTHING. Now, THIS is a "Yippie moment" for you!

Make the time to get some music for your ears!

Music is my method for "getting over it."  There is a great song done by a band called Superchick named "Stand in the Rain."  I got so much strength just listening to this song while I was "getting over it."  Everytime I felt I needed a boost, I would get in my car, drive to the top of a scenic hill and play this song loudly. I found this to be the reminder that I needed that what I was working through wasn't forever and the rain would end soon enough.

Rosie, there's a song by James Blunt that starts out with "How I wish I had surrendered myself" and it goes on to say "chosen heaven over hell"...it's beautiful. Music is a wonderful gift from the Universe with powerful healing ability.
