Put up, Shut up or Stand up...
It is easy to sit down and whisper among others about a situation that isn't right. It takes true courage to stand up, put yourself in the spotlight, and voice what others will only ruminate about with each other.
I have been absent for the past two days from my work here on Keen due to a community involvement that I somehow found myself in the heart of. It's a passionate issue, and the wheels are turning, a little slow, but our efforts are paying off. I'm sure that by putting myself in this position and expressing publicly what others have only mummered in the corners of their mind that there will be backlash. Point is, our protests are right. And what is occurring with our situation in this small community is... well, picture David & Goliath. It's political, it's corrupt, and it's just plain wrong.
The great thing about living in America is that when something is blatently wrong, we are allowed to stand up and say so. Some will disagree, some will stay quiet, and others will join in and cry as loudly as you are about the injustice of it.
Yes, there are important issues all over the place - world wide, nation wide, and our situation here in our tiny community pales in comparison to those issues that gain a higher visibility.
The point is this: If it is wrong, it needs to be fixed. Nothing can be fixed unless the appropriate people that are in a position to fix it HEAR what you have to say. Standing in front of a judge, with three to four minutes to express yourself is a challenge. But we were heard.
Getting involved is time consuming, a stress on your personal life, and in my case my professional life. I apologize for having to make a choice to take a couple of days off, but it was necessary, and it was the right thing to do.
I ask you: How many of you take water for granted? You go to the sink to wash your hands, and it's there, right? What if it ISN'T? David & Goliath for sure!
