Waiting for Santa....

I will be online until Santa decides to wake up. He must've had a hard night, what with the reindeer acting up and all playing those reindeer games they like to play. It's raining in the Snow Globe of Pine, Arizona - and I'm told it will soon turn to snow. Hmmm. How does rain turn to snow? Anyone?

Happy Holidays! Hope that you all made the "nice" list!

Sending you angels,

Jane

# re: Waiting for Santa....

Rain does not turn to snow - it is the other way around. It is one of the famous metreologist misleading statement. Temperature at cloud level is always at the freezing point. When the vaporized liquid hit below cloud level, the ambient temperature is higher thus the flakes turn into raindrops. On winter season, the earth is at the farthest distance from the sun contributing to lower ambient temperature and the only source of energy to melt the flakes is latent heat. In other words, winter months causes the temperature below cloud level to be lower that instead of turning the flakes to rain, it remains as snow. When the temperature goes up, the snow turned into precipitation. Since you are in Arizona, the altitude is a great factor plus wherever the direction of the wind is coming from.If the ground temperature drops, then the liquid precipitation will be turned into sleets.
