When I was small, other than the requisite underlying premise that I really was a fairy princess, I also possessed a certain knowledge that I would grow up to find my Prince Charming, who would sweep me off my feet onto his white charger, love me, wrap me up in a blanket of security and generally allow me to live a life of Happily Ever After in the lap of luxury.

I don't think I'm that much different than other little girls - well, except for the talking to dead people part.  But somehow or other, along the way, life happened.  And another curious thing happened, Prince Charming on horseback became extinct!  They tried a breeding program with the last, extremely handsome, couple of them at a zoo in Des Moines, but it seems they only had eyes for each other, and Prince Charming went the way of the dodo bird.

So what were we to do?  With no Prince Charming and nobody standing around waiting to peel our grapes or run our baths, we did it ourselves.  We got careers, bought homes on our own, worked full-time while raising three kids and four dogs, all on our own.  We took control.  Nobody can stop us!

Actually, that's just a grand over-simplification.  Society changed, the economy changed, and male-female relationship changed right along with it.  Out of necessity, with many of us alone, we had to take control of ourselves and our world.  It's a good thing -- no, Martha, it's a great thing!  We don't NEED Prince Charming anymore, but we still WANT him.  Huge dif.

My best advice to anyone sitting around waiting for Prince Charming to save you is, STOP WAITING.  Save yourself.  And once you're finished, you may just have to save him, too.

In all seriousness, two people coming together out of love is so much better than two people clinging together out of necessity.

So get out there and charm the pants off of -- YOU.  It's okay.  You have another pair where those came from, along with a matching thong and cami.  This is not your mother's underwear - ewwwwww.  Now excuse me while I go slap myself silly for that bad visual.

Have a good day, Princess Charming.
