Mercury Direct, the Bailout, and the Last Debate
Mercury officially goes direct today at 7 degrees in Libra, where it will remain stationary retrograde for the next 3 days. What this means is, while the Winged God may officially be direct, it will take a few more days for things to really start to straighten out in terms of communication, clear thinking, delays and issues that come to the surface. When Mercury is stationing in Libra, indecisiveness can be exaggerated and making decisions that stick become more difficult. It is still not time to make important decisions, better to wait until the weekend when Mercury starts to move along at it's usual pace. It will be October 31, before Mercury returns to the degree it was when it started it's retrograde 3 week trek on September 24.
If you have read past blogs/articles it will come as no surprise that both Presidential candidates are offering their own version of how the US Bailout should work, or that additional options are being considered. It is best not to begin new enterprises under a retrograde Mercury and anything that is started during a retrograde is generally subject to change once Mercury goes direct. The Bailout of both US and European Banks has been undertaken during a retrograde Mercury, and I expect to see serious issues and changes/challenges in the coming weeks. As the sign Libra is a Cardinal sign, ruler of the US's 4th house (foundation), and rules the law, serious changes have been made during this retrograde that will effect us all. I do not remember a retrograde Mercury being this relevant on a collective basis.
Tonight, marks the last US Presidential debate before the general election. As I predicted before, John McCain's campaign has taken a down turn that I do not expect him to recover from with Saturn conjunct Neptune at it's exact degree. This transit in general confers disappointment, and can relate to out and out lies and deception. It seems to be a normal event for both candidates to take swipes at each other's record/platforms that are not entirely factual, and I do not expect tonight to be any different. Both men are debating under Mars transits, which will bring heated questions and answers from both. Senator Obama has Mars within 1 degree of conjuncting his Neptune at 8 degrees in Scorpio which can represent confusion, or deception. It is a murky and disturbing influence for the next few days in his 9th house which would represent his world view, foreign partners and legal matters. This can represent feelings of weakness, inferiority, and ill thought out action, and/or delusions. He will likely be put into a position of defending some of his actions or actions of other's around him. He may be suffering from exhaustion, and at it's highest the transit would confer the ability to serve other's in a selfless frame of mind. With Venus squaring Uranus, some of his partner's, or former associates may be called into question, and it is doubtful that things will turn out as planned. He should expect the unexpected. Money/the economy will certainly be a main focus in tonight's debate, and the atmosphere will be charged.
Senator McCain is at a disadvantage with Saturn exactly conjunct Neptune, and may project a certain amount of bitterness tonight. This transit confers confusion, self-doubt, uncertainty, and there is always the possibly of viewing the world with a lack of reality and awareness. On the positive side, this transit will often allow a person to make great self-sacrifice to achieve an ideal. It can indicate an illness at times. Senator McCain is also operating under a Mars (the God of War) transit, making him anxious to debate the issues in a heated manner. Mars squaring Uranus over the next few days can lead to an argument, a power struggle, or a show of ego, that at it's worst can come about in an explosive manner. He will feel that he must assert himself in his own individual manner. With Venus trining his Pluto he will likely speak in an impassioned manner. So, next stop: the US election, and Saturn opposing Uranus, which will bring total and complete change and ultimately, a new direction.
