October is a big month, astrologically speaking. The US government has shut down for the 18th time since 1976, as the Sun squared Pluto
pushing power struggles rather than compromise in Congress. The planet of communication (Mercury) makes its fall retrograde in Scorpio, and a lunar eclipse occurs in Aries. So, let's go right to the basics:
October 1, the Sun squares Pluto and this is a transit of change, agendas, and power struggles. Be aware of this energy in your own life over the next few days as well as the fact that Pluto can operate in a manner that is compulsive and obsessive. On its highest level, this transit can bring about much needed change, through adversity.
Obama care begins at 8:00 a.m in some states, October 1, in the US and this will transform the health and insurance industry as insurance companies will no longer be able to penalize those with pre-existing conditions as they have for decades. Others who have not been able to obtain insurance will now be able to do so.
This transit will set off the Uranus-Pluto square we live under during this time, and this means events that occur now will be big in the world and big in our lives, especially if it is aspecting a personal planet in your own natal chart at 6-12 degrees or so of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn.
We will see power struggles play out in the world the first week of October in the US and abroad. House Republicans decided they would not attempt to pass any more bills late Monday to fund the government, setting in motion the first shutdown of federal agencies since 1996.
Agendas will become known, and Pluto often involves corruption, bullies, major power structures, obsessions and those who try to force their will, and their way on others.
The US government has shut down 17 times for less than 30 days each time between 1976-1995. The longest shutdown to occur was December 16, 1995-January 6, 1996 for 21 days. At that time Mars squared Jupiter (Jupiter rules governments) and Uranus and Neptune were almost conjunct at 24-22 degrees of Capricorn.
Venus/Mercury are in the fixed and intense sign of Scorpio this month and Jupiter squares Uranus at 18-10 degrees of Cancer-Aries bringing radical political attitudes among the most conservative of the GOP. In the end, the GOP will be splintered ever further than it has been already as Americans will blame the Tea Party faction for the shutdown.
Mercury retrogrades on October 21, in the sign ruling the 8th house of other people's (taxpayer) money. This particular retrograde will be significant because of the sign it occupies and house it rules, as will the eclipse on November 3, also in Scorpio.
With the Uranus-Pluto square, we can expect unusual twists and turns that can sometimes be shocking, erratic and unexpected. From past times this powerful square has been set off the world becomes an angry place during these days and sometimes it's best to think peace.
Pluto involves nuclear power/weapons, and nuclear concerns are playing out in the US as the Israeli PM blasted the new President of Iran, and claims Iran is building a nuclear bomb in spite of comments otherwise. We will hear much more about this as the Uranus-Pluto square affects the charts of the US, Israel, Syria, Iran, and others. October 1-5 are pivotal days in Israel's natal chart. The population will be on edge and unexpected events can/will occur.
The U-P square moves closer together becoming exact October 17-November 16, and this will be another intense period in the world and our lives. Many changes will occur in the world during this period and there are those who will flex their muscles and those who cry revolution. In the past we have seen natural disasters, mass shootings, major eruptions in the hot spots around the globe, and the last time this powerful square come together Edward Snowden revealed to the world the US was spying on its own citizens through mail, email and phone conversations, and drones are among us. The changes that occur now will shape the world for years to come.
The U-P square will be in affect until 2016, and each time another planet sets it off, we will see major change that will affect us all, just like the 1930's when this square last occurred in Aries-Cancer.
October 3, the Sun opposes Uranus at 10 degrees of Libra-Aries. This transit is prone to unexpected events that seem to occur out of nowhere. It will be a jarring, explosive transit both figuratively and literally. Situations will be fluid and nothing stable at this time. We will see unexpected things happen in the world. It will affect you personally if you have cardinal planets (Libra, Aries, Capricorn or Cancer) in your chart between 8-12 degrees or were born December 31-January 4, March 29-April 2, June 30-July 4, October 1-October 5, or even a day or two before or after.
A new moon occurs October 4, at 11 degrees of Libra, at 8:34 p.m. EST in the US. Libra is a more consolatory sign, but it will be tricky at best as this moon sets off the Uranus-Pluto square as it opposes Uranus almost exact, and squares Pluto, bringing issues and unexpected events to the forefront. While Libra rules relationships, they may suffer under this moon, problems may suddenly arise and unexpected events occur due to the degree and placement of this moon.
October 6, Mercury sextiles Pluto bringing the possibility of deep conversations and ideas, and this is a more positive placement.
October 7, Venus enters Sagittarius, the ruler of the 9th house of foreign affairs, ideas, education and governments for the next 25 days.
October 8, Mercury conjuncts Saturn at 10 degrees of Scorpio, and this is a serious, sometimes negative aspect for communication. Conclusions reached at this time will have staying power.
October 10, Venus squares Neptune and this transit can create confusion in relationships, and there may be untruths floating around. Believe none of what you hear, but wait for this to pass. Sometimes this is associated with romantic illusions. This is fine as long as you don't bet the bank on what happens this day.
October 12, the Sun squares Jupiter, and things may be blown out of proportion, issues will deal with laws and governments this day. Otherwise, there may be much over-doing, but it is the weekend!
October 15, Mars enters the sign Virgo. Virgo is the natural ruler of the sixth house of work and health and it is here our focus will lie for the next 53 days. Virgo is the most critical of signs and critical thinking may be enhanced. On the other hand you may experience critical, negative or picky communications with others who try to find fault to easily.
October 16, Venus trines Uranus and this is a positive transit for love, friendships and money. New situations and relationships may come to light.
October 18, a lunar eclipse occurs at 25 degrees of Aries at 7:38 p.m. Aries is the natural ruler of the first house of self--our own desires and needs will come into focus at this time, and they may conflict with others, as they (others) will be focused on their wants and needs as well. Look to see major events occurring in the world as the Uranus Pluto square is exact, and Aries is ruled by Mars, the God of War.
Mars opposes Neptune, exact on October 19, and this transit is confusing, tiring, negative and prone to hearing information that is false, negative, and unclear. Action may be thwarted in some way. We may see events related to water, gasses, and murky situations and circumstances. Gay rights may in some way come into focus during the days surrounding the eclipse. This eclipse will pack a punch and some things will end during this period, including relationships if it is adversely affected in your chart. The Sun opposing the moon is considered to bring up emotional confrontations, especially between the sexes. Those most affected will be the cardinal signs-Aries, Libra, Capricorn and Cancer.
Mercury goes retrograde on October 21, at 6:29 a.m. EST, at 18 degrees of Scorpio and events of this full moon/lunar eclipse may be delayed. Communication and events will be intense, and situations will involve 8th house matters-sex, money, death and change that seems forced. Mercury remains retrograde until November 2, when it goes stationary direct at 2 degrees of Scorpio.
For those who are unfamiliar with retrograde Mercury, the planet of communication appears to go backward although it really does not. This three week period occurs three or four times a year and communication is delayed, glitches occur, projects are stalled, breakups occur and equipment breaks down. It is not the time to start a new project, get married, purchase expensive items, start new jobs (unless you have to) and sometimes unexpected changes occur.
October 23, the Sun enters Scorpio placing three planets in the sign that rules eighth house matters-money, taxes, sex, death and change (regeneration).
October 29, Mercury conjuncts Saturn for the second time this month. Look for a replay of issues that occurred around October 8. This is a serious and critical transit.
As we end the month, October 31, Mars trines Pluto and this is a positive transit geared toward improvement in the world and among ourselves that can include taxes, money, work issues. Happy Halloween!
