Many of the people I speak with want to know about relationships, and why there are so many problems. Problems involving difficult relationships can inevitably be traced to the slow moving outer planets making challenging or less than harmonious aspects to the natal (birth) planets.: Saturn and Uranus, also Neptune and Pluto are usually the culprits. In this blog, I will discuss Saturn. When Saturn enters a particular sun sign difficulties may emerge involving obligations and responsibilities, present and past, sadness, slowness, and difficulty in expressing emotions .Personal loss, the feeling of abandonment, and being overwhelmed by problems and roadblocks that seem to litter the path to personal happiness are all the realm of Saturn.With Saturn there are always obligations to be considered, obstacles to overcome, and the challenge of time within which to meet these challenges. What I mean by the challenge of time, is the fact that Saturn moves slowly, obstacles are cleared gradually, if at all, and relationships either weaken or strengthen as they stand the test of the responsibilities at hand, and the ability of both parties to continue to hold onto a relationship or situation where there is no clear end to the problem at hand for what is often for a sustained period of time. The mark of Saturn is frustration and delay. Worst case scenario, Saturn can bring some great personal loss, health problems, death..At it's best, Saturn can achieve long standing recognition, accomplishment, financial gain, even marriage: but, not without a lot of hard work.
At this time, those dealing with Saturn first hand are Leo's in particular, Leo ascendants, Aquarians, Taureans and Scorpio's, or those with other planets in the chart being aspect ed by Saturn in Leo. Right now those dealing with issues relating to with Saturn would have been born roughly between August 5-17, February 2-11, November 5-17, and May 4-13, or you have other planets at degrees aspected by the 'great teacher.' If you are one of the above mentioned signs and born days earlier in the month you would have experienced Saturn in some challenging form the second half of 05-06.
Saturn was in Cancer June of 03'-July of 05' and Saturn will enter Virgo for several years in September of this year.
Saturn is called by some, the planet of Karma and responsibility. Saturn is often the inevitable conclusion to a situation that is problematic anyway, alternatively it will through many lessons strengthen a situation.. Saturn relates to the past, people and situations from the past, conclusions of past actions, either good or bad, depending on the actions and circumstances of the individuals involved. In "Casablanca," when Humphery Bogart said goodbye to Audrey Hepburn ---in the famous scene at the airport, he must certainly have had heavy Saturn aspects effecting his chart!
At other times, while difficult, Saturn may mark some type of culmination of success in some charts or difficult relationships become committed, as a result of overcoming difficulties .New habits or ways of coping and managing begun under a Saturn transit will likely last a lifetime. There is no way around it. After Saturn transits your Sun or other personal planet in your chart, life will somehow be forever changed.
Saturn is often found in the chart of the person facing divorce..the young woman involved with the older married man, the woman disappointed by her husband, the man who feels he has nothing left on an emotional level with all of his responsibilities,the woman who reconnects with the man from her past at a high school reunion after a lifetime with someone else...all of these situations usually go back to Saturn in the chart. It is the CEO looking at record gains for his company, and in wsd in Richard Nixon's 10th house of career and reputation, when he resigned from office in 1974.
It takes Saturn 29 years to go through the zodiac. Of that 29 year Saturn cycle, we can all count on major changes, with challenges occurring on at least 4 occasions during that 29 year cycle, as Saturn conjuncts squares,and opposes the Sun Sign.. As Saturn transits run about a year in duration, we can safely say that out of those 29 years it takes Saturn to complete it's cycle through the zodiac, we can depend upon the fact that we will have at least that will have at least 4 years during that cycle that will be challenging. In all actuality, there will be more challenges,because as Saturn makes it's way through the cycle it will square (change with a struggle), oppose (difficulties with other people) and conjunct (beginnings brought about by the ending of old conditions) the other planets in out chart, but for the purpose of this newsletter we will only consider the challenges brought about as Saturn makes contact with our Sun Sign.
Take the case of a hypothetical female, who is a composite of several people I know, born under the sign of Leo in August, 1957, making her 50 years old, this year. We will start at the beginning of the first full Saturn cycle in her adult life, that began for her around in 1975, when Saturn was in Leo and conjuncts her Sun.. At that time she was around 18 years old, having graduated high school, and possibly is in her first year of college or having recently joined the work force. . This time period would bring about a complete change in lifestyle in and of itself, complete with the appropriate challenges most freshman faces entering college and learning they will have to study to succeed, or work extra hours to get ahead.. At that time, she might be also be concerned about her Father who may have been going through some challenge-hardship, as she was challenged to begin a new life, away from home. on her own, which is fraught with new obstacles to overcome.This would probably be her most stressful life change, thus far in life.
Fast forward to Winter, 1982, as Saturn created it's first square to her Sun in her adult life. That year a relationship perhaps ended, creating a traumatic situation that would last on and off for about a year in duration. Saturn was in Scorpio, squaring her Sun from the 4th house (the foundation). It would likely have been a difficult relationship, with someone she was extremely attracted to, who ultimately would probably become a catalyst for her to learn a great deal about herself, as a result. Saturn is Scorpio is passionate and intense, and this would not have been a light hearted affair. Scorpio is the natural ruler of the 8th house--sex. other people's money, transformation.
By 1991, Saturn was creating an opposition to her Sun that brought about many challenges, that might include forced endings in her employment situation, again creating some dramatic and challenging moments that including changing jobs and companies. Saturn was in Aquarius, the natural ruler of the 11th house--groups, institutions, organizations. With the change however, it might be possible for her to find her true calling, or end up in a situation, that with a lot of work, could prove to be the best thing that could have happened. She might be facing some challenge in a relationship again.. With Saturn opposing her Sun she could meet her future husband, (Saturn) an older man. As in any Saturn driven relationship, there would be obstacles and difficulties to overcome, that might have included children. As she met her husband on a Saturn aspect, it would be a lengthy courtship before they would be legally committed in the act of marriage.
Again, Saturn creates obstacles and delays, but it also represents longevity.
By the year 1999, at the age of 43, Saturn was in Taurus, creating a square to her Sun, again. Taurus rules the 2ond house of money, obsessions, and she might have learned her husband was facing a money crisis As a result she might be forced to reexamine herself, her life, and her future, including her own future career options, as her husband's financial future was uncertain. She might decide to start the business she had dreamed of,as she would make more money than working for someone else. So, it becomes a priority more so than a thought, and she finds herself on a new positive path, in time.
By 2006-07 Saturn was once again at the point we started, in Leo. During this time her husband might be facing declining health, or she may be considering divorce, and her Father might pass away. There could be job issues again.The Sun also rules the health, and especially as we get older, the health may be disturbed due to stress.....
No one's Saturn experiences will be the same..the main thread that ties us all together however, is the fact that
as part of the human family, if we live long enough we will all share on thing--one way or another we will pass the tests of Saturn, which are never easy, but ultimately go a long way in shaping us into who we are today..What we survive we overcome and grow stronger as a result.
