Average Price Of A Psychic Reading
Many years ago it cost about $4.99 a minute to consult with a psychic by phone. Times have changed from the stone ages of long ago. Truth is the price of everything has risen drastically since phone psychics first offered their services. Yet talking to a psychic by phone has become much more affordable.
These days the average cost to talk to a phone psychic ranges from $1.99 to $10.99 a minute. Anything below $1.99 a minute is very generous. Prices above $10.99 a minute is not necessarily better just more expensive.  Unless you are getting a psychic reading with psychic celebrity such as Sylvia Brown, prices should be within the average rate. Her fees are much higher at approximately $750 for a 20 minute telephone call. There is a well known psychic who has been featured on television and radio, written books, has his own website, yet he is still charging about $2 a minute for reading. Many choose to keep their rates affordable.
The average in person psychic reading ranges from $200 to $500 an hour.
There is the illusion that telephone psychics are making salaries of over $100,000,000 a year. While this could be true for a few, it is certainly not true for most. Psychics have money issues like the rest of the population. Being psychic does not give anyone immunity to poverty. Once I knew a great psychic who made more money washing dishes at the local Italian restaurant than he did providing psychic readings. I admit to having budget difficulties, it would be difficult to survive on my earnings as a psychic alone.
These are some basic guidelines to follow, although your wallet and your budget makes the decision on what price you are willing to pay.

The first time I posted this information it was met with much criticism, and bashed to you know where and back. Therefore I deleted it the first go around. This time I will use the magic of the delete button to remove any comments that I find demeaning to my character or that of others. It is not necessary that we all be in agreement all the time. However, deliberately harassing anyone in my blog will not be tolerated.

It appears I would need to take out a second or third mortgage on my house to get a reading with the number 1 psychic here. In their listing they say a good reading is more important than money? Well, I must say that I would rather hold on to my home than sell it for a reading.

I think you have to consider call volume when you think about your pricing.  The person who charges $1.99 a minute will be getting more calls than the person who charges $10.99 per minute, and at the end of the month I'd be wiling to be that the person charging $1.99 will have more money in their account.

I have noticed some people will charge a flat rate, say $25, for an e-mail reading.  To me, that seems fair and reasonable.

I admit I do get a good laugh when I scroll through the list and look up some of these folks who are changing $25 and up per minute.   I mean really, who to they think they are?  And who do they think they're kidding? I have had excellent service from those who charge $1.99 per minute, and have found their accuracy to be uncanny. Lexy is right. The person who charges $10.99 per minute isn't necessarily better, just more expensive.

I think excessive rate per minute fees show greed by the advisor charging them and that is an ugly trait to have. Besides the people that really need help usually cannot afford such prices. I would rather help people. One advisor on here named all the photos in their design code "hummer 2K" so you can see where their priorities are not on people and their lives. Selfish and greedy!

as a client I think this is a very well thought out blog. I have found for me the best way to select a psychic is to read their feedback. with feedback and profile info the rest is up to me. Any thing in this world is only really worth what some one is willing to pay for it. I don't resent or judge any reader based on their price. they can ask whatever they want and I can pick whoever I want according to my budget, not theirs. thx ps love the horoscopes and really appreciate your efforts Lexy

great to hear feedback from clients on this issue, thanks for posting this Lexy. Let's hear more from them.....come on guys....let us know. :)Also, something to take into consideration when looking at *certain* higher priced readers is the time they have worked online, their own perception of their accuracy ( ego? ) or are they just working quickly and thus can justify that rate?

Thank you Lexy, nice and brave of you, and appreciated.

Dear Lexy:

I may get a few rocks thrown my way over my opinion but here goes...I think we should allow those who want to charge exorbitant fees alone and let them do so.  Like those who want to control what we read, what authors are allowed to put their books in public libraries etc I think that controlling what others want to charge or write is like any censorship and I don't like it. Most of the users or clients and the advisors on Keen are supposed to be 18 years old and above.  They have the ability to look at the price and move on to those that they can afford or those that have the price they feel is reasonable.  If a person feels that they are worth a million dollars an hour then more power to them but I would not click on their listing or spend my money calling them but I feel they have the right to list what they want to charge.  Does it reflect on the rest of us...not really.  What it does do is impact the system Keen has in place where they charge for clicks on the listing.

Who can say for sure that the higher priced listings are justified?  What person can honestly judge that?  Who are we going to get to do the judging etc.  I think we need to use our God given power to say no to something and not use it if we don't like it.

Just my two cents here.  You all know that I have remained fairly cheap with my own listings and probably will never go over what I charge right now but I will defend the rights of those who feel they are worth more and charge more for their services.  I can always not go there and click on their listing.

Choice is good, and free will prevails - not tossing any rocks, just agreeing that the fee is set by the advisor, and the contract is made by the caller.

If Keen wants to continue listing the highest priced advisors on the front page, some suffer, the newbies because they have stricker shock, and the ones who buy into the Higher is Better mentality.

I sign on, ask God to send me the ones She wants me to help and leave it at that.  I suspect that she is a better agent and PR person than any list on Keen.

i am suprised at the 50 dollar a minute readers. unfortunately some people really think that if an advisor is bold enough to ask someone to pay 50 bucks a minute that the advisor must be perfectly accurate. i think that 6 bucks a minute is high enough. My best readings have come from advisors who are under 5 bucks a minute.

as far as sylvia browne, she is not that accurate and she is rude so she does not deserve to over charge for a reading.

Perception is everything!

Some people feel that if it costs more it must  be more valuable or better quality then a less expensive similar item.

You can find what you need offered at best price/value if you shop around and do some product research. Become an educated consumer.

Impulse buying is never good for the consumer, no matter what services or product they are purchasing.

As for determining a product/service worth/value, I believe something is only worth what someone is WILLING to pay for it.

Here's to educating the Keen consumer on how to really research the services offered on the homepage :)

Dr. Daragh,
I agree with you. I am learning a very valuable lesson at the moment on being a well informed consumer. Sometimes you can find something of much better quality at a much more affordable price for your budget, just like you said.

Hi Lexy,

I agree!  I charge what I believe is what the average person can afford at this time..I am as good, I believe, as anyone else but who knows?  Alot is salemanship as you can obviosly see here on the board every single day by one person!

Folks, if it sound too good to be true - then it is.  Don't fall for it.

On Sylvia Browne, I saw her recently promoting a new book on a talk show and I just couldn't believe it!  All this great stuff about her and I swear I thought I heard a 'man' talking!  But then I realized it was her!  The audience was allowed to ask questions and she was blunt and abravise.  I wanted to contact her to say she needs a break or something..lol

I mean, really, she was awful!  Rude.  And really seemed TIRED...This is a business that can be very draining and there is a time to take a break - seriously.  Unless you just don't care...I do!  So I burn out sometimes..and then take care of ME for a bit..

Nuff bout her though. She has inspired many with her books and inspirations.  So I will have to give her kudos for being able (I guess) to hang in there.. I just think she needs a break...

We all do our best and I really try (I'm not always right but do my best with what I see) If I see nothing I say so..Also frustrating is the gentle advice I give is sometimes interferred with in its way by the client breaking the Cosmic Forces by doing something to interfere with what I say...

Do any of you have that occur?  Most are just absolutely wonderful and accept the Truth as I see it (which could be wrong here and there) but then I have to think "I feel your desperation but you have paid money for this and then interferred in the outcome of what I stated at the time"  I understand this, however, as people sometimes are just so obsessed or, I don't know, that they don't take the advice and then wonder why I said didn't happen...I could go on and on about this but I feel it is non- productive.  People will do what they will do despite our good advice..but,  please, you will hear this over and over here - don't shoot the messenger and also, I must add, interfere with the (however difficult it may be) with the Cosmos..  it will change the outcome..

Sorry, venting, have a situation and don't know how to explain it to the person...HELP!

I remember The psychic hotlines at 3.99  a minute and because of Keen and others, there is more available to people.

The prices are more reasonable and there are more choices, and I am all for that.  My personal opinion is that $50 an hour is ridiculous. There is nothing spiritual about that. My opinion only

Just my two cents worth...

I am jumping in here to agree with Rosie's comment.  Oh of the perks to being in business for ones'self is being able to run your business the way you see fit; including setting your own rates.

Additionally, many advisors, such as myself use the Keen forum as only one venue to reach clients.  Many have their own personal websites and charge much lower rates than on such forums as Keen (or other sites that keep a percentage of per-minute-rates for using their platform & technology).

Many advisors feel they need to charge higher rates on these type of forums to offset the cost of doing business via this forum.  However, you can just bet they charge much less in their own private practices because they have cut out the middleman and pass the savings to the clients.

Most clients that have been around awhile know about the other sites and lower rates, however, some perfer the familiarity and comfort of this forum and do not paying higher rates.

Just as Rosie points out it is the clients choice, their decision on what they can afford to pay for a service.  Personally, being a true Virgo I tend to look for the lower rates, however, as my children so often point out...'not everyone is like me!' :)

Once again, just my opinion...

Great Post Lexy! :)
