That Dress

Last week I made a trip to the store. While there I saw a magazine. Being short on cash, I left it on the rack. My husband went to the store the next week. I asked him to please bring home the magazine. He could not find the one I had requested, and brought home another instead. By the next week, I still wanted this magazine so I went Saturday evening to the store and brought it home. I love reading magazines, they are filled with information on how to organize my closets, seduce my husband, cook up a meal, apply make up, best products for any purpose and many more things. One of my favorites is them telling me how to dress with style. This is information I really NEED! Between the t-shirts and simple pants (sweat pants) my wardrobe needs a major overhaul. As for shoes, can the stores please remember to stock a size five? I get tired of having to drive 2-4 hours to find a store with shoes that fit my tiny feet. Back to wearing those beautiful clothes they suggest I buy. I saw the most beautiful dress. It is screaming out buy me you would look so nice wearing me. Then I notice the price, it is as much as my husbands weekly salary. Could I buy the dress? Would my landlord appreciate it if I skipped paying my rent in favor of buying this lovely dress? How would my family react if I decided to get this dress instead of groceries, or paying the power bill? Then I wonder if everyone who reads this magazine could afford this dress. Does everyone who reads this magazine have a salary of at least $250,000 yearly or more? It would be nice if this magazine could do a survey of what people make and can afford before they suggest we go out and purchase such an expensive dress. Well, dress I hear you calling my name but I must pass you by. While I believe it is ok to treat myself and splurge every now and then I must be realistic. But I will go and splurge on a more affordable dress very soon, which I hope to enjoy just as much as I would this very expensive dress. In the meantime, I plan to send the magazine a quick note and tell them that although I appreciate them and their advice, could they please remember those of us who have smaller budgets. That goes for some other magazines as well. We all can not afford to shop at super fine department stores and expensive boutiques.
