In a community, in person or cyberspace, one must really try to remember that everyone is different, and difference is crucial to growth & development of individuals and the community at large.
Everyone has something very special to offer the world, that is as unique as the individual is.
There is worth & value to everyone.
Do you see everyone's worth equally ? Or do you find yourself judging them, their work and their worth as "less then"?
There are always going to be outstanding citizens in a community, the one's who give of themselves selflessly. (Leaders by their actions) They are motivated by the vision of the greatest good for all, not just personal gain or fame or power over others.
There are always going to be those who become judge & jury(by self appointment). Almost appearing to be ready & waiting to pounce on those who may do things differently.
There will always be newbies, those who are just starting out & trying to find their way.
There are those who hear & read everything yet choose to remain silent as to not get involved in "all of it".
The quality of a community is truly only a reflection of the quality of the people who live in or participate in it.
So, if you feel there is room for improvements in your community...perhaps it is time to get busy becoming part of the betterment process.
The motives behind everyone's actions become very clear with the gift of time, do not be fooled into thinking otherwise. Some may beat the system for a while....but in the end...since their motive is not really for "greatest good" they will be exposed.
Since none of us are perfect, there will be trials & errors. Those who really have the best of intentions will correct the error of their ways..those who are out for themselves will not.
There is very little room at the top...so most of us in the community will be in the middle area. This is where the most growth & development takes place. It is the cullmination of everyone's input that creates the ultimate result.
Everyone has a part to do...nobody is less valuable then another.
Here's a trick you may not know....if you want to inspire greatness in others...encourage them, support them & applaud their efforts along the way.
Nobody is born an expert, they develop into one. They develop with guidance, support and encouragement !
If someone is doing something that is upsetting the state of the community, take the time to approach them personally with compassion not personal attacks. The last thing you will get from someone is improvement or change if you attack them.
If someone is new and you see ways they could improve....offer them suggestions, gently and earnestly. There is a huge difference between critisms & constructive critisms. Which would you rather someone use on you?
Everyone has feelings.
Being considerate of that fact alone could be the difference a community is so desperately needing.
There is purpose to everything that happens.
Perhaps when corrections need to be made, one should start with themself before moving on to others.
When witnessing a public error, dig deep within and remember there is a human being on the other end of that, who may be completly unaware of their error & it's consequences.
Not everyone has vindictive motives, some simply make mistakes. Trial by error, trial by doing, living & learning etc etc etc.
It is easy to be quick to judge and hang them out for everyone to witness~
Most of us have been there and done that(made a mistake), having to then say "ooops my bad"
Compassion can not be present without consideration. There is always room for more of both in the art of human relating.
So, when you find yourself in the midst of issues in your community, where do you stand?
Are you a contributor to the problem or are you a part of the solution?
