~ Keep the Happy in Happy Holidays ! ~
Ok...here it comes...December! The holiday season is upon us full force!
Do you get stressed out during the holidays?
Are you running from store to store to find exactly what those near & dear to you have asked for this year?
Are you spending more then you can afford in order to give what you think will make others happy?
Are you charging your gifts on a credit card?
I heard on the news that the amount of debt incurred during this holiday season is equal to $900 for every man, woman & child in the USA.
So, before you go full steam ahead with your gift buying this year, be honest with yourself about how much you can afford. Create an honest budget by listing those whom need a gift and then set a dollar amount for each gift. The trick to this is sticking to that amount when in the stores buying your gifts! Sure you want to give to others what they will enjoy, but come on, is your niece really going to love you less if she doesn't get a super expensive gift from you?
Why do we feel the bigger/more expensive the gift is, the more it shows our love for the receipient?
THE RETAILERS DREAM COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!
You love your family & friends all year, the holidays are not about proving how much you love each other with expensive gifts.
Retailers created BLACK FRIDAY! They count on holiday purchases to bring their bottom lines out of the red(negative) and show a profit for the whole year. Then of course, December 26, everything you just bought is 50% -75%off! Just another marketing/selling scheme to create the most money for their company in the final weeks of their fiscal year.
So this year, try to keep yourself in the black and out of the red with smart buying :) Gift cards are a fantastic way for your loved ones to get just what they want during those after holidays clearance sales! Even children can enjoy a gift card! They feel special going to the shop and choosing just what they want and paying the cashier is a big deal, so grown up! You can even offer to take them as part of your gift. Children love time spent with you more then the gift~ Heck even adults do, especially the elderly! Now those teens...well that's a whole other blog ;)
So keep the happy in your holidays by keeping your spending in the affordable range! You know it feels horrible to open those credit card bills come January!
Imagine how great it will feel come January! That is a great way to start & create a Happy New Year!
Happy Holidays :)
