~ LIGHT FROM A SINGLE CANDLE ~ A lesson for us all ~ In Love & Light to VT students & teachers & families ~
You have heard of people speak of " your true purpose", or asking you " what do you think/feel is your true purpose?"
Well, if you are like many people, you answer with " I really don't know my true purpose." The truth is we each are born with a special gift, a true purpose for incarnating in this world, in this life. Discovering "true purpose" can take years and sometimes it even comes to the surface at a time of crisis, whether in your own life or in someone close to you, or even a strangers life. Perhaps even a co-workers illness or loss of a loved on. Those circumstances hit home(heart center) in each of us. We think of our own lives, the lives of people we love. How often it takes a crisis or tragedy to help us to regain clear focus on what really matters, what really means something great to us, what really is important.
In Light of the Virgina Tech University tragedy, we are all now facing this time of inner reflection. The young lives cut short, the opportunities that were so present and just within reach no longer exist. Even the young man who did this, we can't help but wonder why would he do this to strangers and to himself. This tragedy has provided us all an opportunity to look at our own lives, at our own mortality, at the" what if" it was my loved one in that building. Well, this is an opportunity for each of to take stock of our own lives. What opportunities have you allowed to pass you by? What acts of love and kindness did you not do because you were in hurry or too busy?
What dreams do you have that you have not acted upon? When in your own life did you judge someone you didn't even know? When & where could you have done better? Or given more?
Now as you sit here today, reflecting on your life, find those times you could have done more if you weren't so afraid. Find the opportunities to extend compassion to a stranger or someone who "seems" strange. Find the time to express your love for friends & family. Never take your days alive for granted or theirs either. Today is a gift, that God has given to you. Make today a turning point in your life. Dare to dream, dare to reach out to someone who is alone, dare to speak love to others, dare to take a chance, dare to follow your dreams!
You have the power of life, use it to create all you desire and dream. Do not wait, do not hesitate, do not make any more excuses. Today is a gift. Do not take your day for granted. Do not take loved ones and friends for granted. Search your life for ways that you can shine your Inner Light more brightly, for yourself, and for others.
The candle ceremony brought tears of Faith & Hope & Spirit, to stream down my cheeks. Those students & faculty & family members came together to shine their Lights in Faith, Hope, Prayer, Compassion and Unity. Their Lights burn brightly and in Unison. Those candles in the darkness reminded me of the following quote I use as my mission statement for my life's work, my life's purpose.
Today, find your Inner Light and allow it to shine brightly in Faith & Hope, Compassion & Spirit.
I send my Light & Love to all, as all of us have been forever effected by this dark day in our Nation, in our Universe. Remember, we are all in this world together, we must all Light the way for eachother.
"Thousands of candles can be Lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness, Compassion, Faith & Hope never decrease by being shared."
