~ WISDOM, WIT & INSIGHT TO ENLIGHTEN & INSPIRE ~
~ Learning to live in the present ~
The German thinker, Eckhart Tolle, advises us in his book "The Power of Now" that the present moment is all we ever have.
Eckhart's view is that to gain serenity we must live in the present, and to do this we must learn to conquer the destructiveness of the mind, which is constantly reaching forward and backward in time.
The Buddha's teachings talk about this also:
" The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past,
worry about the future, or anticipate troubles,
but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly"
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow says:
" The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain."
Each of these men are sharing with us a very similar lesson.
Buddha c.563-c.483 BC India
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 1807-1882 USA
Eckhart Tolle 1948 to present Germany
Thousands of years between them, growing up in very different cultures, and yet the lesson is similar.
I read an article about the oldest living female who just turned 115 years old. Scientists took samples of her blood for DNA research, trying to discover if there is a longevity gene in humans. In their research, these scientists have discovered a common personality trait among people who seem to defy the nautral aging process and live well beyond their peers. Guess what it is??
Stress...each of these people said they didn't sweat all the small stuff that everyday life seems to throw at us. They said they didn't like to worry too much as worry never changed the situation.
Medical science has been talking about the correlation between stress & disease in the human body for sometime now.
Metaphysicians talk about everything being energy, thoughts, emotions and actions. So all those thoughts of worry running through the brain even though they remain unspoken, are still energy. That energy effects the human body.
"The Secret", Law of Attraction, talks about how our thoughts become our reality. Whatever we think about in the privacy of our own mind, is heard by the Universe and brought to us in the physical realm. The energy of your thoughts is sent out like a signal and returns to you matching energy. Sort of like tuning into a radio station, signals are sent then received. Whatever station you tune into, that is the music you will hear on your receiver.
When life presents stressful times and situations that cause us to worry, we can control just how much energy & power we give away and contribute to the situation. We can control how much we allow the situation or circumstance to effect us and our life. We can not control the situation or circumstance, only our reaction and action toward it.
Try to be aware of your thoughts and actions while enduring trying times. Try to remain as centered and solid as you can. Your thoughts are very powerful, use them to remain strong and steadfast.
In my own life I like to use this mantra:
" My faith is stronger then my fear "
Wishing you a wonderful day filled with beauty and blessings!
