~ The Mouse Trap ~

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

What food might this contain? The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning:

There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr.Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me." " I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said, I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray.

"Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital , and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock.

To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died.

So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we re all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

 REMEMBER,,,,

EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY;

OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.

One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a friend

Dear Epiphany6814,

Thanks for sharing :)  I think we all have been this mouse at one time or another. If not yet, we someday will be. I received this via email the other day. I thought with so much negative energy swirling about, this story may help shed a bit of Light upon us all.
Thanks again for sharing :)

It was my pleasure. I may one day share with you all my mouse stories <wink>. :) As an ex boyfriend once said to me, "No matter how much people S#$t on you, you always come out smelling like a rose." I know he meant well when he said it & knowing he is not the best with words, I knew what he meant. I compare what he said to me with your mouse post and it still brings a smile to my face. Thank you so much for sharing it! Cheers.

My mother in law used to say that exact saying all the time about her & her husband...
"I smell like S!@*t and he always comes out smelling like a rose"
She passed away 17 years ago suddenly...
When reading your comment, I could hear it saying with her expressive emotions and all!
Thanks for the fond memory and smiles :)

What a great story.  Having a rich history of story telling from both the maternal(celtic) and paternal(native American) sides of my family I just love finding stories that we can sit down and tell our kids.  We have a tradition in our house(when our kids were growing up) that each one of us had to find a story a week to relay to the other members at Sunday dinner.  It became such a wonderful way to relax after dinner and enjoy each other.  Now my kids are carrying that tradition forward with their kids.  I have sent them your story of the mouse because I feel it is so wonderful.  Thank you Dr. for sharing it with us.

Dear Rosie,

I knew when I read it, it was one of those tales you share with others for the simple purpose of making a positive difference in one person's life :)
Your family traditions are certainly worth passing down.
Some stories are never written only spoken~ those are my personal favorites :)
I don't know about your Irish side, but in my family the stories get better with each generation passing it on to the next. They seem to become more colorful as well as more meaningful :)
