~ WISDOM, WIT & INSIGHT TO ENLIGHTEN & INSPIRE ~

~ What I Remember ... 9/11 ~
On this day in 2001, the entire world as we knew it was effected by the terrorist attacks on the United States of America.

The most powerful nation.....became a victim on it's home soil, something that had not occurred since Pearle Harbor.

The unthinkable became reality for the entire world to witness.

I can recall watching the attacks live on the TV and thinking to myself....this looks like a hollywood movie...this can't be really happening.

I lived very close to O'Hare Airport in Chicago at that time, and the sound of planes was a normal occurence in daily life. That day....the silence in the sky was eerie beyond description. The skys were grey and cloudy and completely silent.

As the coverage continued to stream on TV,radio & internet....I struggled to wrap my mind around what I was witnessing.

As the firefighters and police arrived after the first tower attack, the news anchor spoke of the NYFD Chaplan arriving on the scene and rushing in without any hesitation to help those he could. His name, Father Mychal Judge, O.F.M.

His story, along with so many others, has never left my head or heart since that day.
He perished along with so many others when the second plane hit the second tower.

                         ~  Father Mychal's Prayer  ~

                   Lord, take me where you want me to go;
                   Let me meet who you want me to meet;
Tell me what you want me to say, and
Keep me out of your way.

This prayer was written by Father Mychal and he recited it everyday. Those who worked with him and knew him, say this prayer sums up his spirit and  dedication to service so very well.

I keep this prayer on my desk in a frame...the same copy I printed 7 years ago.

The strength of the human spirit, the faith(no matter the denomination), the ability to put others before self, the bravery, the compassion, the "difference factor" disappeared.....this is what I recall & hold onto from that time in history.

In the face of evil...goodness shone so brightly. In the dust & debris...people helping people, who ever & where ever they could.

Today.....I remember just how powerful evil can be...and how much more powerful goodness is!

To all  of the victims of 9/11 & their loved ones, I offer my prayers.
I honor your greatness by honoring greatness in people & our world.
I believe in the goodness of man..I was a witness to you, true real life heroes.

Dr. D,

When I need an uplight, I come to you.  I was so frustrated today to come into the blogs and see so many angry politcal rants and half-truths on this day.  Thankfully, you stepped outside of the bi-partisan (ie. two-ring) circus to talk from the heart.

When I go to work I look at the people around me knowing many of them lost friends and coworkers, and every day ask if they should stay home.  I applaud those who continue to support the defense of our nation, in combat, command, or intelligence.

They do it so today can mark a memory, not a reoccurance.

Hug a soldier.  They hug back!!!

Hugs to ALL and especially Dr.D,

Heather

Heather,
To me, today is about honoring & remembering those who perished in the terrorists attacks.
The children who are now 7 who never met their parent.
The families who's loved ones left for work just as they did on any given day but never returned home.
The brave people who are public servants, police, fire & emergency workers who thought only of others & not themselves that morning.

America~ the land of the free & the home of the brave!

Thanks Dr D for also reminding us of how in times of turmoil and hate, the good really does come out in people, and love does conquer over any evil or negativity. I loved this blog as it was very touching.

9/11 changed many things worldwide. It opened up fears that never really existed, fear of attack by air, which I am mystified that a human being could possibly even have planned those things. It resulted in the loss of lives of innocents from many countries who were there that morning. It's hard to think that it has been seven years since that morning. So much has changed, yet so much has remained the same since that bright September morning for the families who lost loved ones. I truly hope that NO country ever has to experience that or anything like it ever again...

Dear Joan,

Yes...so much has changed yet so much remain the same. I feel very deeply that these times upon us are screaming out for each of us to contribute our personal best toward creating change for our Global Village.
Terrorism is exactly that...creating a fear  based society that is afraid of each other at the end of the day. You & I know personally how hate divides   a country & people being from Eire.
Killing innocent people to prove our point & instill fear in others who differ from us is so  old news really...history is full of that.
I pray we as a people take the present into our hands and really start creating actions towards change. Peace begins at home...within each of our own hearts.
