HEARTACHE RELIEF songs - (play these when your heart is hurting)

Many of us listen to pain-inducing songs when we have a broken heart.  I'll bet "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" has been playing at far more suicides than anything Ozzy Osbourne has ever written. All I'm suggesting here is that instead of listening to songs that increase the intensity of our suffering, we make a conscious choice to listen to only pain-reducing songs when our heart is hurting.

I put this "Emergency Heartache Relief Song List" together back in 2003. But I couldn't in good conscience share it with you till I'd tried it on myself first. Shortly afterward we were blessed with a broken heart. I self-medicated with my playlist for a week and it worked even better than expected.  It is immediate pain relief.  I played it all the time and it's better than aspirin for a headache. Not bad at the possible/probable end of a three year, fun, interesting, romantic relationship. Since then, neither me nor either of my daughters nor half my friends have gone through a breakup without listening to these songs. Why? Because it works. It truly does reduce the intensity, the sharpness and the burning pain of a heart ache.

If you are suffering a broken heart as you read this, you be sure to burn this to a cd or mp3 player asap and start listening to it all the time to get immediate relief. If you're doing fine, either create the playlist and save it or at least bookmark this song list cause eventually, most of us will get our hearts broken again in the future. Also, share it with any friends who are suffering.

In case of heartache, play most of these songs.

I've linked them to their lyrics so you can pick the best selections for you.  Just reading them will help a little, but nothing compared to listening to the songs daily. If you had a headache you'd take something for it right away instead of just suffering it.  A heartache is a lot worse than a headache. So if you're hurting, get with it! Download your favorites and listen to them all the time till you're better!

Some of my favorite heart ache quotes.....

God is closest to those with broken hearts.

 ~Jewish Saying

Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak; sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go.

When love is lost, do not bow your head in sadness; instead keep your head up high and gaze into heaven for that is where your broken heart has been sent to heal.

Music is always great brain programming. Any time you're not consciously listening to it, the words are going straight to your subconscious. The more you listen to it, the less you listen to it consciously. That's why I don't listen to any music with rules, values or beliefs that weaken me. I pray you don't much either.

This is a GREAT list, Lollie--Thanks!! I think I'll add the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" which I watched for the first time last night. It is truly phenomenal. The one song which *might* otherwise be a downer, just has such silly, happy circumstances associated with it, it still turns out an upper for me...

I'd add to the list, just to start...
"Unhappy Girl"
"It's Gonna be Alright"
both are Ramones songs,, the first is, I think, an outtake and hard to find.
How about "Sisters are Doin' It for Themselves" the duet by Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin.

There's a song by the ole Ike and Tina Turner Revue, from the 60s. Before I had any clue what the title was, all I know is whenever I heard it, it was impossible to sit still. In fact I dare anyone with a soul to sit completely still while this song is playing. (One exception-if you watch the Live version on the Big TNT show you may just sit there in awe, with your jaw hitting the floor, watching them perform it for the first time, staring in profound and total awe as Tina and the Ikettes dance so expertly it seems to violate the laws of physics, as though their feet don't even touch the ground from sheer joy) For most who love music that cheers you up, especially if combined with dancing, for me at least, it is hard to hear without wanting to jump up and dance. Actually,  for me, even if I'm in front of other people, I  WILL jump up and dance, how fast depending on whether it is a party or not. I listened to it in the car once and felt like pulling over and dancing with anyone standing on the street. OK, you get the 'amazing song' part, but if you had a relationship end and are sad, "So Long (Goodbye)" has lyrics (even though the song is so kick-a$$ that lyrics are sort of an accessory) that will make you feel good and as strong as Tina. It's worth a try.
