Oprah Shoulda Followed Dr. Oz instead of Bob Greene
New study shows calories ingested vs calories burned is still the gold standard of what works to take off pounds and inches..... but there's more to that story they didn't look into.
I have been on every kind of diet imaginable. Boiled eggs, grapefruit, weight watchers, atkins, the macro diet, Bob Green, south beach, and the good news is, the statistics are correct, they all work.
However, the important question is not whether or not you can lose weight any and all of the above ways.
The important question is: "Which ones can you comfortably," dare I say it, "even enjoyably live with for the long haul?"
My nick name could have been Yoyo most of my life because that's all I did, climb on one diet, fall off, climb on another one, fall off, get discouraged, just keep getting fatter for a year or two, climb on another diet.... Rinse, repeat, repeat, repeat....
Is it any wonder I got discouraged? That was before
"You on a Diet" I have lost sixty one pounds slowly, but surely and most importantly, comfortably and I'll be damned, and go to hell if I'm lyin'...
ENJOYABLY
by living the Dr. Oz way. I still have sixty one pounds to go. I get impatient, but not stressed. No fear. I can stick with anything I enjoy. I felt guilty about every bite I put into my mouth until I started following Dr. Oz. That's over. I love eating now!
You will never be able to feel satisfied on a low fat diet. You can tough it out for months and maybe even a few years. But you can't feel satisfied that way. You'll never feel satisfied that way.
On the other hand, bacon will kill you. :)
After a life time of dieting I have learned that there are certain key ingredients to being able to enjoy a diet.....
- Pretty much every bite better be nutritious because your body is hungry for nutrition.
- Balanced amounts of whole foods and healthy fats are essential.
- Eliminating high fructose corn syrup is utterly essential. It has sabotaged more diets, healthy and otherwise, than any other product known to mankind.
- You must eat slowly. The smartest and hardest new habit I ever made has been learning to put the fork down between bites. I learned to take a sip between each bite, drinking with the same hand I eat with.... and finally, I've got a healthy new habit that cuts calories without leaving me feeling hungry.
- Keeping a food journal is free, easier than it's ever been and keeps you on track. How many calories did you have yesterday? If you don't know, there's a real good chance you ate too many.
Right around the election Oprah and I both gained weight, but I gained ten pounds and she gained forty. What was the difference? Well for one thing, her diet coach is Bob Greene, mine is Dr. Oz. And who introduced me to Dr. Oz? Oprah. So why does she follow Bob Greene instead of Dr. Oz? I don't know.
So when she had those binging urges she'd eat a bag of oh so healthy (NOT!) blue corn chips. That's either 1260 calories for the 9 oz bag, or 2240 calories for the 16 oz bag.
When I had binging urges I'd fix another bag (yes a whole bag / four servings) of frozen broccoli nuked and served with one serving of classico alfredo sauce (60 calories) That's right, it's a huge meal with eight grams of filling fiber and 8 grams of hunger killing protein for only 180 calories. I cannot say I will never ever emotionally over eat again. But I can say that if I do, it will be 180 calories of delicious, nutritious, high fiber and high protein, Broccoli Alfredo!
Bottom line, calories in and calories out tell the statistical story of what works to take the pounds off. But if you don't just want to lose weight for as long as you can stand the diet.... If you want to find a healthy way of life that you can enjoy and keep losing weight on day after day, month after month.... Dr. Oz is still the author of the best diet, You on a Diet.
Nothing tastes better or satisfies more than the food I eat on my 'diet.' Nothing. If you give your body a chance to fall in love with real food for one month, it will - because your body craves nutrition. Every cell in my body cheers at the aroma of steel cut oats, a sweet potato, high fiber pasta, double fiber bread.... We, me and my body, we never knew how much we craved nutrition until we gave nutrition a real shot. Wow, what a life changing event!
Calories ingested vs calories burned sounds good on paper, but if every calorie isn't jam packed with nutrition, if you're not eating slowly enough, if you're not keeping track, if you don't find an aerobic physical activity you can enjoy - you cannot sustain the weight loss.
If I woke up tomorrow at my perfect weight, I would still prefer the food I eat on this so called diet to any of the fake foods that fill our grocery stores. And if you ever get tired of Yoyo-ing, I recommend truly nutrient rich food very highly. :)&-=
