This is a Sicillian Oak. It knew too much. It was trusted by too many. It grew in Brooklyn for 25 years and then the FBI relocated it to Hollister, Missouri in the Witness Tree Protection Program.  It's safe here. But bored. (pardon the pun)

My daughter Christie who's worked in a land office for years said that this was used eons ago.  She said she'd seen property descriptions from the early 1900's that said stuff like, "40 steps east of the red bard, 80 steps north of the witness tree and 24 steps south of where the big oak used to be."  But the sign isn't all that old.  Still, the name made it feel like this tree was wiser or more honest, maybe even more spiritual than other trees. Silly. I know.  A little sign and two nails doesn't make a tree smarter, or more honest, especially not more spiritual!  Duh.
