~~A TRUE STORY ABOUT THE STRENGTH OF A WOMAN ~~

~~MY GREAT GREAT....ECT. GRANDMOTHER~~~

This story comes from my family book "THE NEWMAN STORY"

When my great great great (and so on) grandparents came to Texas they were newlyweds with their first baby... and my grandfather had built the three of them a home in shelby county, tx. ( in the sand flats) ( info from previouse story)  Well the only thing he like finishing the house was the window to be put in. and in the  1800's it took awhile ( to say the least) to get stuff like that. Well, he had gotten word that the window had arrived in town , so he hitched up their wagon and left.. well again, so long ago it took 1 full day or so at least to get to town to get supplies and get back. well this left my grandmother alone in the woods with no neighbors around (for what would seem like a gazilloin miles today)  with a baby and no window in the house.. just a hole.. in the side of the wall.

well, night came and as she was rocking her son by the fire, she began to hear the sounds of a big cat out side. she had no defense and the cat was getting closer to her and her baby. she was terrified all alone. so the story goes that her instincts and her strength took over. She secured her baby in its cradle. She looked around and realized that she had alittle bit of kerosene ,   so she put a line of the fluid into the vacant window and waited and watched for the glow of the cats eyes.. and everytime she would see that glow she would take a piece of kindling and set that window afire... When the cat would see the flash it would retreat. She stayed awake all night watching for that cat.

My great .... grandfather returned the next day with the window, to a little more than slightly singed window seal... but a wife and child that were safe..
