Strong holds... have you addressed yours?

Today is a new day!  When we have strongholds in our life, many often choose to think of these things and it can certainly steal our joy.  We can allow our feelings to take over our lives just by our focus.  We could focus on the fact that God blessed us with children OR we can focus on their rooms being amess, or the feeling of being taken for granted.  It really IS a matter of how we choose to focus which either brings misery or joy.  It's a choice to look at our lives with a positive perspective or a negative one.

Many people focus on a closing door, instead of the great opportunities that lie ahead. They focus on what is behind them, and allow this to cloud their minds.  The strongholds are the negative thoughts the we allow to be our main focus.  It could be as simple as driving home and thinking "I hope the house is clean. Noone has cleaned that house for me today, nobody cares. I am being taken for granted."  So we have our minds set before we even open the door and have already planted a seed in our own mind that we are being taken for granted. Now do we go through the door with a smile or a frown?  I'm sure you see where this is going.  We do the same with jobs, spouses, finances, and every other thing we see as an obstacle.

My husband has been laid off from work going on five weeks now.  We certainly can focus on doubts, financial burdens, or even begin to blame each other for how things just aren't going according to OUR plan.  OR we can keep our faith and focus on the DIVINE PLAN and remember that God can turn this situation to our advantage.  As each day passes we can choose to be grumpy or just rejoice in all the Lord has given us thus far.  Maybe it hasn't gone according to OUR plan, but I can certainly see how he has turned some negative events in our lives to our advantage.  I can see the blessing in the smile on my adopted son, Noah's face who in his four years of life faced more than we have.  He wakes up each day singing regardless of his circumstance. His life is full of obstacles and challenges because of his medical conditions... Down syndrome, iris and retina coloboma, and two holes in his heart.

His favorite song, "Don't worry, be happy!"  This child leads the way in our lives, and he certainly is a blessing to our family.  Many people have come up to me and asked, "WHY would you want to adopt a child with such issues?"  My answer is, "Why not? He is like any other child who needs love and acceptance."  I'm doing what the Lord knew I could do, and I feel honored to be chosen to be Noah's mommy here on earth.

So today as you take time for yourself, think about the strong holds in your life.  Remember that our thinking is a seed to our future.  If we think negatively, what kind of crop awaits us in the future?  Many people have problems and disappointments, but it really is up to us to change our thinking to make the best of today and tomorrow.  We do have the power to take control of our thinking, and our lives.

God bless!
