TAKING INVENTORY OF YOURSELF
The turtle and the rabbit start the race with great intentions. The rabbit, confidant and jovial, eases off thinking the turtle couldn't possibly beat him. You can't win the big race either with a broken down vehicle. Now is the time to take a good look at yourself, and discover what you already have and what you need to work on.
Today we are going to list our talents and abilities. No one is going to see your list unless you want to share it, so be honest with yourself. Be proud of who you are. These abilities and talents are going to help you win your race. Take a good look at your inner and outer abilities. Maybe you are patient, or stubborn enough to hang in there when the going gets tough. Try to write down as many things that you are good at, or qualities that will help you win the race of becoming who you want to be.
Next, take a look at what you'd like to improve about yourself. Are you trying to lose weight, but keep getting off track? Did you want to quit smoking? Did you want to keep a budget? Are you lacking motivation? Is your focus on someone else fixing themselves, when maybe you need to work on you? Write down all the things you hope to improve. Don't get overwhelmed thinking you need to fix all of this immediately. Change takes time so you work on your list one thing at a time. If you need to call in professionals to help you attain your goals, that is okay. You do what you have to do. The key is don't give up and try, try again! I can remember my mother saying to me as a child, "If you fall off that horse, you climb back on and try again." We did not have a horse, she knew that in order to succeed you never give up. You have to have a drive to want to succeed, and by writing your list on paper you are certainly working to bring about positive changes in your life. Keep your list handy and look at it every day. Make a commitment to yourself, and if it helps find a partner to join you on this quest. This partner can be your accountability partner. If you don't have anyone you want to share this with, that is okay too.
Now picture yourself successful, picture yourself becoming the very person you want to be. Visualization can work wonders! Remember Rome wasn't built overnight! Give yourself a reasonable amount of time for each item on your list. Remember to cross off the things you accomplish and move on to the next item on the list. You can always revise your list, but like the turtle remember that moving slowly and steadily can bring you to the finish line!
Have a victorious day!
