Happy Fathers Day...

today to all the dads, grand-dads, wanna-be-dads, etc....This is YOUR day!

I, for one, waited until yesterday to do the annual 'Father's Day Shopping', as I've got dad and grand-dad to get for.

I am here to report, shopping was successful.  It was a bit stressful in the card section of the store, but, I wasn't picky.  I just grabbed.  I know I got a 'Happy Father's Day' card for my dad and g-pa, but still not sure what they say?  Guess that is my next big project for the day:  gift wrapping, card signing and deliver.  I'm so lazy, I just rolled my eyes writing that...jeez!

Another exciting event starts today and it's in our neck of the woods...the pagan/witch neck, I mean...

LITHA(circa June 21)

(Midsummer, Summer Solstice, June 20-23, dependent on actual astronomical event) Held on the longest day of the year, the Solstice is the celebration of light's triumph over darkness and that of the bountiful beauty that light brings into life. Flowers are common in the circle, roses and bright cheerful wildflowers are upon the altar and usually worn by all. It is the changing point of the year, and the celebration of the spiral dance of the year is common among Wiccans. It a celebration with much joy, and much feasting. Many wiccans will attire themselves in bright colors and equally bright adornments of flowers. Litha's usual food fare may include honeycakes or cornbread. Litha is not celebrated by all sects nor in the same way. In the past, bonfires were leapt to encourage fertility, purification, health and love. Midsummer is a classic time for magick of all kinds.

Off on one of my famous store runs (as I mentioned in a few past blogs, I have a slight issue with shopping) and found a set of 'Dream Catchers'.  One was pink, the other purple.  They were only one dollar, so I had to grab 'em.

I now sport a purple dream catcher hanging from the rear-view mirror in my car and a nice pink one hanging on my window by my bed.

Although it's hard to tell, I am native american by all rights.  My family on my dads side is actually the side I get my indian blood from, but I do have a card certifiying my indian blood degree.  Basically, this is my link with

the dream catcher...

In Ojibwa (Chippewa) culture, a dreamcatcher (or dream catcher; Ojibwe asabikeshiinh, the inanimate form of the word for "spider" or bawaajige nagwaagan meaning "dream snare") is a handmade object based on a willow hoop, on which is woven a loose net or web. The dreamcatcher is then decorated with personal and sacred items such as feathers and beads.

While dreamcatchers originated in the Ojibwa Nation, during the Pan-Indian Movement of the 1960s and 1970s they were adopted by Native Americans of a number of different Nations. Some consider the dreamcatcher a symbol of unity among the various Indian Nations, and a general symbol of identification with Native American or First Nations cultures. However, other Native Americans have come to see dreamcatchers as "tacky" and over-commercialized, especially as most of them are being manufactured and sold by non-Natives.

Traditionally, the Ojibwa construct dreamcatchers by tying sinew strands in a web around a small round or tear-shaped frame of willow (in a way roughly similar to their method for making snowshoe webbing). The resulting "dream-catcher", hung above the bed, is used as a charm to protect sleeping children from nightmares. As dreamcatchers are made of willow and sinew, they are not meant to last forever but are intended to dry out and collapse as the child enters the age of adulthood.

The Ojibwa believe that a dreamcatcher changes a person's dreams. According to Terri J. Andrews, "Only good dreams would be allowed to filter through . . . Bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day." Good dreams would pass through and slide down the feathers to the sleeper.

Another version from the same article was, "Good dreams pass through the center hole to the sleeping person. The bad dreams are trapped in the web, where they perish in the light of dawn."
