For those keeping up with my blogs and the drama I include, I would like to share with my readers & friends that my grandma is now out of the hospital and home again.  She seems to be doing rather well, so for those that offered your prayers, thank you...they obviously worked!
Now, as for the grandpa, if we could only convince him that he needed medical attention, life would be a bit more calm in my family.
So, how are you this week?  If you're lucky like me, you've enjoyed some great weather and sunny skies.  If not, I'm sorry, but you could live vicuriously through me if you want?  I don't care ;-)
Well...So, on with the Blog, this is it...

Rune of the Day

EIHWAZ
YR or EOH (el)
YEW

A Rune sacred to Odin, who gathered the dead souls for their journey to Valhalla or the underworld.

Right Side
As with the 13th card of death in the tarot deck, this rune is also symbolic of death, but death in the sense of a cycle of life.  It highlights the importance of death in human life as in death, regeneration and rebirth.  This rune is symbolic of the gate to the underworld.  Patience is needed to work through a period of stagnation.  Old ways will pass giving rise to the new.

Reversed
This rune reversed symbolises nostalgia and a hankering for the past.  It can also represent emotional problems linked to the death of a loved one.

Osho Zin Wisdom

9 of FIRE = EXHAUSTION

This is the portrait of one whose whole life energy has been depleted in his efforts to keep fueling the enormous and ridiculous machine of self-importance and productivity. He has been so busy 'keeping it all together' and 'making sure everything runs smoothly', that he has forgotten to really rest. No doubt he can't allow himself to be playful. To abandon his duty for a trip to the beach could mean the whole structure might come tumbling down.

The message of this card is not just about being a workaholic, though. It is about all the ways in which we set up safe but unnatural routines for ourselves and by doing so, keep the chaotic and spontaneous away from our doors. Life isn't a business to be managed, it's a mystery to be lived. It's time to tear up the time-card, break out of the factory, and take a little trip to the uncharted. Your work can flow more smoothly from a relaxed state of mind.

A man who lives through conscience becomes hard. A man who lives through consciousness remains soft. Why? - Because a man who has some ideas about how to live, naturally becomes hard. He has continuously to carry his character around himself. That character is like an armor; his protection, his security; his whole life is invested in that character. And he always reacts to situations through the character, not directly. If you ask him a question, his answer is ready-made. That is the sign of a hard person - he is dull, stupid, mechanical. He may be a good computer, but he is not a man. You do something and he reacts in a well-established way. His reaction is predictable; he is a robot.

The real man acts spontaneously. If you ask him a question, your question gets a response, not a reaction. He opens his heart to your question, exposes himself to your question, responds to it.

I Ching Coins

Off today on one of my not-so-famous shopping spree's in the local occult shop, I found a set of I-Ching coins.  'Hmmm', I thought.  "I don't have any of those".  So, of course, now I do.

Love new stuff, love new occult and paranormal new stuff, especially.

So, I've been surfing the net looking for insight on this mysterious form of divination.  So far, what I've found and read has left me more confused...but the coins are REALLY cool & I like 'em!

If you are an 'I-Ching' guru, please comment or e-mail me any info as it would be appreciated!

Here's what I've found out:

 Instruction for the I Ching

Contemplate a question or situation. Throw three coins to create a single line line. Heads or Yang is given a count of 3 and Tails or Yin is given a count of 2. Each time you throw three coins, you count the numeric value of the coins together. There are four possible number combinations that make up the four lines. These appear as follows:

6 (Yin + Yin + Yin or 2+2+2)        0    a broken changing line

8 (Yang+Yang+Yin or 3+3+2)             a broken non-changing line

9 (Yang+Yang+Yang or 3+3+3)    x    a straight changing line

7 (Yin+Yin+Yang or 2+2+3)            a straight non-changing line

A hexagram is made up of six lines, which might looks like this:

Throw the coins six times and write the value, starting with the bottom line and working to the top.

When there are changing lines, you are directed to read a second hexagram as well. The young or non-changing lines stay the same and the changing line will change into the opposite to create a second hexagram.

You will need a book to properly interpret the results of your toss (see Reference page).

In the book, you will find a chart showing the hexagrams. The left column displays the bottom three lines (or lower trigram) and the top row shows the top three lines (or upper trigram). Find the intersection of column and row to determine the numbered hexagram.

Read the text until you see the words: “the Lines”. If you have a changing hexagram, you will read only those lines that change. Only read the changing lines for the first hexagram. These are a significant influence on your reading.

Read the second hexagram, again only to “the Lines” and not further.

Contemplate the situation as described by the one or both hexagrams (in the case of changing lines).

Do you get it now?  Hahaha, me neither, or at least not yet...as I am a VERY positive person and assure you this will be learned and mastered, if I dare to say so!

Pentacle Magazine

This just so happens to be the edition I bought today!

New magazine that I picked up today while out shopping, know of this?  I assume it's popular within the pagan community, as it looks very well published and has great sponsor ads inside.

At this time, I have not got a chance to READ it, just flip through.  What I saw definately has me ready to come back and read some more.  If it's as exciting as it seems, I'll just have to subscribe to this magazine.

Have you heard of or read it before?  If so, please let me know about it, as in, is it cool?  Informative?  Worth the money?  Etc...that would be nice.

It is apparently from the UK, as it claims on the front cover to the the Leading Independent Pagan Magazine.  I happen to have purchased the issue 25, btw.  Is that a current one?

The magazine ranges from 3.75 pounds in the UK, 6.95 in Eur & $9.49 for the lucky one's of us that live in the US!

Well, I'm not really trying to sell or promote the magazine, as I do not work for them, but found it to be an interesting job reference tool.

I would suggest checking out their website like I did for a follow up.  I don't believe I'm allowed to give you the link or anything like that, but here's something I read off their homepage:

"Greetings, and welcome to the site of Pentacle Magazine - the UK's leading independent Pagan magazine.

There are many new features here for you to enjoy, so log in today, and be part of one of the freshest, most innovative Pagan sites. Some parts of the site are only available to registered members - but this is free, so Register on the left hand side of the site. After that please drop by the forums, say Hi, and introduce yourself. "

Tarot Deck of the Day
Pagan Tarot by Lo Scarabeo

Pagan Tarot by Lo Scarabeo

This is another one of my many tarot decks that I have.  I must admit, this one is not my favorite, but I still enjoy it the same.  Just something about a laptop computer in your readings that I find weird...I'm sure it's just me, but for the record, they are nice cards.

Oh and the deck I have is the 'mini' version, as I have a fondness for smaller cards.

This beautiful Tarot deck combines Wiccan traditions with modern lifestyles.  It accomplishes the challenging but successful mixing of mundane life and problems with spiritual life and inner growth.  This deck is a must for those following the Wiccan path.

It appears by looking through my scheduler, I have another spell casting this week, er, tomorrow rather.  I did go get some supplies that I needed today, however.  Just a few more things, and I will be ready.

The spell I'm casting is a Love spell.  See, it is good to cast love spells on Friday because it is ruled by the planet Venus.  Venus' influence in our lives deals with love, romance, beauty, kindness, happiness, etc.

Now you can see why it's scheduled for tomorrow.

Want a Love spell of your own?

Try 'The Love Lamp'...

To your basic fuel, add the following:  one bottle of Love Oil, five herbs associated with love or four herbs and some five-finger grass.  Use a prayer to Saint Anne.

If you're in the mood for a good spell, but just too tired, worn out or good old fashioned lazy, hire me!

Incense and their magickal qualities

Do you think there should be or is a difference between cone or stick?  This sounds like a debate that surely someone has had to have at some point in their lives...no?

Well, that's what I want to know, which is better.  I'm thinking the cone, since the stick has an actual 'stick' to burn in addition to the rolled incense.  Make sense to you?

Just my own theory, in which I have many, but I spent the better part of my shopping time today debating which I should buy.  I usually buy the stick, so this was no difference...I bought them all.

In addition to buying cone incense and stick incense, I went ahead and got a few essential oils that I needed for my love spell, mentioned earlier.  One oil was for love and the other I got was for money drawing.  Of course, not for me, but seems this is another popular request with my spell casting services.

Oil is great to dab a little behind the ear, or on the wrist before your big date, or magic spell.  However, in this case, I got the oil to soak my blank incense sticks in, and just make my own.  Anyone else?

I used to make candles, but my nerves couldn't take it...lol.

Incense (Latin: incendere, "to burn") is composed of aromatic biotic materials. It releases fragrant smoke when burned. The term incense refers to the substance itself, rather than to the odor that it produces.

Many religious ceremonies and spiritual purificatory rites employ incense, a practice that persists to this day. Incense is also used in medicine and for its aesthetic value. The forms taken by incense have changed with advances in technology, differences in the underlying culture, and diversity in the reasons for burning it.

Color & Meaning

Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation.

Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Most children love the color purple. Purple is the color most favored by artists. Thursday's color is purple.

Violet is the color of purpose. Violet is associated with the Crown chakra (This links individual and universal).

Violet Energy

Violet is a combination of blue and red. Red is a focusing, dynamic and active energy while blue is cooling, calming and expansive. Violet brings a new dynamic to the expansion of blue and the activity of red. Red brings practicality to the undirected expansiveness of the blue, and allows more creative energy to emerge. For this reason, violet is associated with imagination and inspiration.

Violet is an important energy for those who use blue and indigo skills in the psychic field. The red in violet offers a grounding effect.

Put some violet in your life when you want:

  • to use your imagination to its fullest
  • to re-balance your life
  • to remove obstacles
  • to calm overactivity or to energize from depression

Stone Power
Polished Quartz Crystal

I feature this beautiful stone because, in case I've not metioned it already, I went on a shopping spree at the local occult store and had to take two of them home with me.  They look very much like the one's featured in the picture above.  I like it a lot and look forward to energizing it and it sharing back with me!!!

Quartz (from German  Quarz) is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's continental crust (after feldspar). It is made up of a continuous framework of silicon-oxygen tetrahedra SiO4, with an overall silicon to oxygen ratio of 1:2 resulting in the overall formula SiO2.

Upcoming Events:
Litha

Midsummer may simply refer to the period of time centered upon the summer solstice, but more often refers to specific European celebrations that accompany the actual solstice, or that take place around the 24th of June and the preceding evening. The exact dates varies between cultures.

European midsummer-related holidays, traditions, and celebrations are pre-Christian in origin. They are particularly important in Northern Europe - Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden - but are found also in Ireland, parts of Britain (Cornwall especially), France, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, the Ukraine, other parts of Europe, and elsewhere - such as Canada, the United States, Puerto Rico, and also in the Southern Hemisphere (Brazil), where this imported European celebration would be more appropriately called Midwinter.

Midsummer is also sometimes referred to by Neopagans and others as Litha, stemming from Bede's De temporum ratione in which he gave the Anglo-Saxon names for the months roughly corresponding to June and July as "se Ærra Liþa" and "se Æfterra Liþa" (the "early Litha month" and the "later Litha month") with an intercalary month of "Liþa" appearing after se Æfterra Liþa on leap years. The fire festival or Lith- Summer solstice is a tradition for many pagans.

Solstice celebrations still center upon the first day of Summer according to the calendar. However, there are some who still choose to hold the rite on the 21st of June, although this is not always the longest day of the year.

The celebration of Midsummer's Eve was from ancient times linked to the summer solstice. People believed that mid-summer plants had miraculous healing powers and they therefore picked them on this night. Bonfires were lit to protect against evil spirits which were believed to roam freely when the sun was turning southwards again. In later years, witches were also thought to be on their way to meetings with other evil powers.

In Sweden Mid-summer celebration originates from the time before Christianity; it was celebrated as a sacrifice time in the sign of the fertility.

The solstice itself has remained a special moment of the annual cycle of the year since Neolithic times. The concentration of the observance is not on the day as we reckon it, commencing at midnight or at dawn, but the pre-Christian beginning of the day, which falls on the previous eve. In Sweden, Finland and Estonia, Midsummer's Eve is considered the greatest festival of the year, comparable only with Walpurgis Night, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve.

In the 7th century, Saint Eligius (died 659/60) warned the recently converted inhabitants of Flanders against these pagan solstice celebrations. According to the Vita by his companion Ouen, he would say:

"No Christian on the feast of Saint John or the solemnity of any other saint performs solestitia [summer solstice rites] or dancing or leaping or diabolical chants."
Indeed, as Saint Eligius demonstrates, as Christianity was introduced to previously pagan areas, midsummer celebrations came to be often translated to new Christian holidays, often resulting in celebrations that mixed purely Christian traditions with traditions derived from pagan Midsummer festivities.

Midsummer celebrations are held throughout the US. The NYC Swedish Midsummer celebrations in Battery Park, New York City, attracts some 3,000-5,000 people annually, which makes it one of the largest celebrations after the ones held in Leksand and at the Skansen Park in Stockholm. Sweden Day, a Midsummer celebration which also honors Swedish heritage and history which has been held annually on the sound in Throgs Neck, in New York City since 1941. Swedish Midsummer is also celebrated in other places with large Swedish and Scandinavian populations, such as Chicago, Minneapolis, and Lindsborg, Kansas. The Swedish "language village" (summer camp) Sjölunden, run by Concordia College in Minnesota, also celebrates Midsummer.

Geneva, Illinois, hosts a Swedish Day (Swedish:Svenskarnas Dag) festival on the third Sunday of June. The event, featuring maypole-raising, dancing, and presentation of an authentic Viking ship, dates back to 1911.

The Seattle, Washington neighborhood of Fremont puts on a large Summer Solstice Parade & Pageant, which for many years has controversially included painted naked cyclists. In St. Edwards Park in Kenmore, Washington, the Skandia Folkdance Society hosts Midsommarfest, which includes a Scandinavian solstice pole.

A solstitial celebration is held on Casper Mountain in Wyoming at Crimson Dawn park. Crimson Dawn is known in the area for the great stories of mythical creatures and people that live on Casper Mountain. The celebration is attended by many people from the community, and from around the country. A large bonfire is held and all are invited to throw a handful of red dirt into the fire in hopes that they get their wish granted.
