May Your Soul Be at Home Where There Are No Houses

Where the grasses press beneath your feet on the path, let this be your hallway.

Where your eyes meet the tips of the mountains, let this be your haven.

Where the waves gently lick your ankles, let this be your cleansing.

Where the stars outline the sky like a table cloth of lace, let this be your library.

Where the moon sings her ancient song,  let this be your lullaby.

Where the animals slumber beneath the rich earth, may you find your roots.

Where the trees sway in the winds of change, let their ways be your teacher.

Where rain pours on parched grounds, let this be your time to dance!

May your soul be at home where there are no houses.

Wow!  What a wonderful poem and photo.  I love looking at old, abandoned houses and barns.  They give me a sense of the past and how things were.  This photo for instance makes me think this was where sharecroppers may have lived. It was a hard life they had, but they sat together in the evenings around a bonfire and talked of life and watched the stars and the moon, revelling in the beauty of the sky readying themselves for another hard day of harvesting.  Thank you for your blog today!

You're so welcome! This home is well over 120 years old an in the backwoods of KY right next to a beautiful waterfall. Several friends of mine attempted to rough it, living in this house and as a result we have many awesome memories here * on the land. I look at this old house and remember when the porch was strong and the dogs were living here. When my friend baked bread in the wee hours of the morning to deliver to neighbors so she could support her babies. I remember the fires and the stars, the friendly faces and the wooden castle a dad built for his children, right out front for them to pretend they were royal family. This house has meaning for me, too. :-)

Dear Fawn:
What a beautiful meaningful poem.  You are so very talented and wise for your age.  I love the front porch mentality and I miss others having that closeness.  We are too much into technology and forget about our roots and ancestors.  The house gives me feelings of endurance and standing the test of time.  I love your blogs!  Thank you

These comments make my day brighter :-)

I had an incredible poetry session with Normandi and the other women . . . this was a spontaneous poem created from lines that reached out and grabbed us that day. In my case it was 'may your soul be at home were there are no houses'.

I have always thought that my home away from home(heaven) was nature.  I could use some nurturing right now from mother nature.  I am glad the weekend was a success.  Edna
