Photo Journal Number 1 - Start of 18 Day Road Trip!

I basically wrote in my last blog that our car broke down briefly before we got out of MI, in New Buffalo. Well, after this we went to Iowa to see Craig and drop off some of his stuff, and then onward to Nebraska where we went through Lincoln and stayed overnight. This is Galen in the morning before we headed off to Denver. We arrived in Denver on the fourth of July in time for a party on my first Cousin Brian's roof top. Brian is the brother of my cousin Phil who is traveling with us-. It was great! We saw fire works and had a cook out. The next day we got a tour of Boulder and Red Rocks Ampitheater.

Hundreds of musicians have played here over the years. The view is stunning.

Behind Galen is the first concert ever played in this natural setting - so perfect for a concert. This is a pagan paradise.

Lots of artwork in the basement salesroom and show area-

This is at the outskirts of Boulder.

A sample of the many winding and steep roads I had to pull a heavy u-haul up and over. This has had me traumatized! I hope the worst is over.

We drove 8000 plus feet upward into the rockies and arrived at San Louis Lakes State Park at night. We had no idea what we'd wake up to. We put our camp up in the dark and had a fire. This isn't our camp site- I have a larger tent- but a sample of what we woke up to. Surrouned by a panaramic view of rocky mountains (Sangre Christo) with a lake and these incredible sand dunes at the national park in the distance. We were so high the air was thin and we felt a true rocky mountian HIGH!

Phil jumped down into the field with Brian and Katie to take some sand dune shots. Brian, Katie and Galen all took off to climb the 700 foot plus dunes already so high up! Only Galen made it to the top and Katie's feet got hot with her flip flops and she stopped just short of making it. He pushed himself and his lungs hurt so much that we actually took him to the nearest emergency room to get him checked out. He was okay.

Katie and Amber at the Dunes. I sat around at the base in the little creek while they braved the hot sand.

We rode through the San Juan National Forest in New Mexico and almost ran out of gas. We stopped to say hello to these sweet horses and feed them nuts and dried apples.

Mesa Verde! This park ranger, Julie, is in her bliss with this job. I could feel it and loved talking to her.

These folks lived thousands of feet up in the cliffs and skimmed the rocks with hand and footholds. We climbed ladders down into the kivas (round dug out rooms).

Galen the cliff dweller!

Sun Temple

View from the sun temple. This place is soooo sacred.
Mother Earth and Father Sky
Tomorrow we head off to Four Corners and Sedona for a couple nights for vortex hunting and the grand canyon . . . to the pink coral dunes so we can see Zion- then to Moab for a couple nights to see the arches . . . then canyonlands at salt lake city area . . .onward to teton cabins for a couple nights before our final trip across Idaho to Oregon. Phil wants to see some redwoods so maybe we'll be able to make that happen. I'll keep you posted w/ updates. Please pray for safe journeys- and money to keep us fed and engine full of gas!
