I'm scared and excited all at once . . . living on savings between jobs- but will work as a nurse once I get there.

Dear Fawn:

I would advise you to take a more relaxed view and schedule some down days between excursions!  I remember when we traveled across the US in a Ryder moving truck.  We would push ourselves to reach our destination and drive until we were really weary.  We found out that after 6 hours of driving our bodies felt like we were beat up!  I know when you are young you are much more resilient and can bounce back but it really is wise to spend some days doing nothing and I mean nothing!  Resting and eating and sleeping.  You have such a trying schedule you just might want to add 3 or 4 extra days travel time especially after your excursions in the Grand Canyon to kick back.  I know when we got wise to the traveling after a few years and we added extra days to travel it really helped our outlook when we finally arrived at our destination.

I am so excited for you and the gypsy in me wants to pack my bags and head out on the road right after you.  I really have nomadic tendencies and although I have put down solid roots I still miss the adventure of seeing the countryside and new sights.  I am keeping you in my prayers along your journey and so excited for you.

Fawn,

I understand how you feel~ It was 3 years ago that my family did the journey of moving across the country. We had our 4 pets with us(2 cats,2dogs) and travelled in a uhaul truck and our SUV.
I suggest allowing room for "whatever" and just go with the flow. The destination will be there waiting for you.
Sending an angel or two to ride along with you :)  Take your time and enjoy the ride across America the beautiful :)
Happy trails~

Thank you, I agee. I tried to schedule two days around the interesting stuff and drives no longer than about 5-6 hours a day. But if it gets to be too intense we'll just have to relax . . .

you are a nurse?  piece of cake to find an job anywhere then.  people who program in dead languages or middle managers in the money fields or anyone working for airlines as the price of fuel goes up. those people deserve to be nervous

just think, you may never have to pump your own gas again...

Oh yes, Oregon lol. It will feel strange not to pump the gas. Nursing is a blessing as a profession right now, I am less worried about employment and in fact probably will have a job lined up one week after I arrive.

Hi Fawn,

Wow...what a trip.  I am glad someone suggested slowing the traveling down if you can.  I'm excited for all of you!

After reading your blog I understand what you ment a few days ago when you read for me and suggested getting rid of unneeded things and keeping what is "precious" to me.

It was five years ago for me that I gave up a well paying job and started my gypsy path. My cat and I have put thousands of miles on my SUV and landed in lovely Walla Walla, WA.

I too look forward to your photos and notes.  Wishing you blessings and stamina.   Jane
