The Drumming Dervish

Coffee Chat Musings . . . Juicy Blessings ( & lots o' yummy, interesting stuff:-)

Your Children (photos & inspiration)

. . . are not your children; they are the son's and the daughters of life longing for itself.

They come through you, but are not of you . . . and though they are with you, they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,  for they have their own thoughts,

Your may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams,

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you, For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday-

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth,

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness!

For even as He loves the arrow that flies,

. . . so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Just got back from beach camping 'up north' MI, at Fisherman's Isle. Ten bucks a night! I went with my 12 year old, his friend . . . and my 18 year old daughter. . . Katie (my baby) she's grown up!

(Katie and Amber . . .  LOVE- this picture makes me CRY)

Dear Fawn:
What a wonderful blog and my very favorite passage from the Prophet.  I have worn this book out.  I love it and read it over and over it is so insightful to me.  He was a master at words and I love the passage you quoted especially.  The pics of your children and family are so poignant.  Lovely.  Thanks for sharing

this is so true. i have a 22 yr old and i learned early that he is his own person and has his own life. a parent can not live through their child vicariously or force their child to be someone other than who God intended them to be.

Thanks Rosie. Katie has been very resistant to having her senior picture taken, so I'm using the above one with her beloved Amber as her senior picture because it shows the truth (love). This is really Katie. I think this is what she wants, because she approves.

Yes Donna. The hardest thing for me to let go of has been being the 'mamma bear', always protecting her from everything!

also my son was a pain when he was 18. i wrote him an eviction notice. he moved out to another state right before he was 19 and i was so sad until my back went out for a week. but he matured and now he understands more. now i just love him and i no longer want to kick his back.

You pegged me too:) I am to allowing and learning the free-ing part to grow. Love them so much sometimes it covers all the surroundings. We live, love and learn.. You grow in the midst of it all. I really appreciated this Fawn...

Much Love,

Another comment from the peanut gallery Fawn.  This really helped me this week because our youngest daughter is having such a hard time finding her way and I remember how rebellious she used to be at 18 and this helped us realize how precious the time that we have with our babies when they are growing really is.  Thank you child for this lovely pictorial and for sharing with us.

Fawn, what a beautiful post - thank you. I appreciate being able to read others' comments, too, because my oldest daughter is almost 18 and has suddenly turned rebellious...I'm trying to make myself remember that she's not a little girl anymore and is trying to find her way, but it can be very difficult. It's good to know that I'm not alone in my feelings.

You aren't alone! It's a poignant journey mom's (& dads) take and though it seems we experience it alone, there are MANY of us out here going through it.

It's deeply felt - the transformation is unique and love filled xoxoxo
