Attitude and Dragged Garbage Cans
I climbed into my sparkling clean car dressed in a Gretta Garbo black velvet vintage dress, hair perfect. As I drove 14 miles to the University Town to give a Poetry/ Music / Psychic Show I felt magnificent. My attitude attracted like a magnet as people smiled responding to my zestful energy.
Somewhere on mile 10, {as I waved at yet another smiling driver in their car,} a blue trash can exploded across the road. Offended by this inconvenience I wondered who on earth left trash on the Highway. Hadn't they heard of Green Peace? On reaching my destination I parked my car and got out.
"Mame! I've been following you 10 miles!" a short man in glasses exclaimed. "You've been dragging a blue garbage can on your back tires the whole way. It popped out back their on the road! Thank God no one got hurt."
Refusing to show shame I uttered a hasty, "I'm so sorry!" and felt the blood rise to my face. Isn't that just like life? Just when your attitude is soaring high as the Eagles, exploding garbage cans shoot across your path. Guess it’s just the Universe’s way of keeping us humble.
Of course the other lesson is to pay more attention backing out of my driveway on Trash Day.
