OBSESSION
An astronaut rides miles in a diaper obsessed on revenge. Van Gough cut his ear off for it. A Bible passage forewarns "thou shall not covet"... yet we burn for another. We must have more. Obcession feeds life with a shot of vitamins. Obsession inspires inspiration, love and power. It even consumes shopping excursions.
We suddenly self destruct a peaceful relationship, career, or goal with the burning need to own someone ...or something..., that makes us feel obsessed. Despite all we have worked for and gained, our thoughts may carry the image of one face or theme. And what about what we already have? We sleep walk our actions, bored and depressed.
Why? Why do so many of us feel that we have to be on edge and over powered? In the animal kingdom, this would be death. Why do we feel such a need to be in pain, {yet never admit to this BEING pain?}
WE HAVE BECOME TOO COMFORTABLE
Despite the dream that we must live in luxury, have a beautiful home, mate and good career.....once acquired, what then? What do we work towards now? When we have what we set off for, and are supposed to be kicking back and loving every minute of it, why then do our eyes wander?
TO BE HUMAN is to want, work, and gain. Even if it means tomorrow's obsession is the newest cross word puzzle......we MUST have it. We make plans and acquire our need. We are not happy contemplating our navels. We need distraction even if it's a trip to the store somewhere for relief. We pace, agitiated if things get in the way. Suddenly we are obcessed. Please God give me variety! Give me! I want! And when we have it....So what?
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING DRIVEN, AND BEING OBSESSED
BEING DRIVEN is to accomplish a goal that is positive for our life in a career, promotion, or becoming the "best" at what we do. Yes, this leads to type A behavior and is not good for our hearts, but when we are driven to be the best we can be it is to be seen in a positive light.
BEING OBSESSED is when something overtakes all common sense, owning our mind and body to do things we would not usually see good for us. We may be obsessed with the thought of food, cigarettes, stalking, a person, sexuality, lying or hoarding
IN THE ANCIENT DAYS IT WAS THE HUNT FOR FOOD AND WARMTH
My guess is that obsession in ancient days was food and a warm place to hunker down. Without the obsession to find the perfect surroundings one would die or starve. One day without food brings the obsession to eat. One day without shelter brings the obsession for safety and warmth. One day without leadership brings chaos and the obsession to worry about safety. To be a woman was the obsession to have a mate to protect against rape, protection during child birth, fire and a warm body to sleep against.
OUR AMBITION CHANGED THE DYNAMIC OF OUR OBSESSIONS
Our intelligent passions have given us supremacy over the world. We can destroy or build back anything on earth we want. The simple old needs are not todays.
We have developed armies to protect us, and a net work called a Government to lead in times of disaster. Take away simple important needs and we become bored and listless. We need to obsess! Even if it means self sabotaging the comforts we already have.
Obsessive needs for a buff body, beautiful mate, sex life, story book relationship, better job, or to live our dreams through our children become high priority obsessions. Glamorous or comfy homes and higher political leadership have replaced the simple basic obsessions’ for every day survival. Whether it is love, investments, power or companionship, obsession eats at us. We feel we must have it to survive. It rages ever on and we march to its rhythm, consumed.
