Is the Reading True?
Storm Cestavani

Since the advent of psychic hotlines and easier access to internet psychics, there is a new challenge that faces the community -- the 2nd or alternate opinion!   Often, I am asked whether or not a prediction from a psychic is true or whether there is no basis in the answer they have received.  It is a tough position to be in, yet it is a "valid" question and one that often requires skills other than clairvoyance to answer.   I personally prefer in these circumstances to use "horary" (a question that is asked to an astrologer and read for the moment that the question is asked) for these types of questions.  The reason -- I can separate my personal feelings and answer a straight forward question using planetary rules that have been established for over 300 years to provide insight into the situation.

As I was considering what type of horary chart to use for this type of question, I stumbled across a wonderful book written by one of the most notable American astrologers called, "The Martial Arts of Horary Astrology," by Lee Lehman.  I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to study horary seriously.   She created a checklist to use in order to get an answer to a 3rd house question, which is called, "Is the Rumor True?"   So, since a client is calling me up with information that they have received (3rd house), I felt that these same rules could be applied to whether or not a psychic reading they received was valid or not.

Here are the rules:

Is the Rumor True Astrological Checklist

(From Lee Lehman's book Martial Arts of Horary Astrology)

1.      The rumor is true if the ruler of the Ascendant, the Moon, or the Moon's dispositor (or better, the majority of them) are fixed, not cadent, and in good   aspect to the benefics or the Sun.

2.     If those three are cadent and afflicted by malefic, the rumor is false whether they are in good zodiacal condition or not.

3.     The rumor is true if all four angles are fixed, the Moon and Mercury are fixed, and they in turn are separating from the malefic and applying to angular benefic.

4.     If the MC/IC axis is fixed, and the Moon rules either angle, then the rumor is true.

5.     If the benefics are in the 1st, but the Moon unfortunate, the rumor is false and misleading.

6.     Mercury retrograde or debilitated shows a false rumor, as does the affliction of the planet to which the Moon or Mercury next applies.

7.    The Ruler of the Ascendant or the Moon under Beams brings secrecy to the matter.

8.    The Moon either Void of Course or in hard aspect to Mercury shows the rumor to be either false, or of no import.

9.    The Moon in the 1st, 3rd, 10th, or 11th, separating from an easy aspect to any planet and applying by an easy aspect to the Ruler of the Ascendant argues that the rumor is true.

10. The Moon square or opposite Mercury, neither in easy aspect to the Ascendant argues that the rumor is true.

11. If the Ruler of the 6th, 8th, or 12th House is in the 1st House, or afflicting the Ruler of the Ascendant; or Mars or Saturn retrograde and in the 1st house, or in hard aspect to either the ascending degree or the Ruler of the Ascendant; then the Querent will receive damage or prejudice from the news heard.

Additional Rules from Storm:

1.     The third house of rumors its rulers and aspects to other planets.  If the ruler is in good condition, and in good aspect to other planets, then the rumor is true.  If the ruler is in bad condition, and in bad aspect to other planets, then the rumor if false.

2.     If Neptune is in an angular house, the rumor is false, as Neptune reveals that there is some missing information or someone is attempting to deceive.

3.    The Moon being badly afflicted by house or aspect reflects that the rumor is false.

So, I have decided to use an example for this type of question using an issue that has been recently in the media, and that is regarding Rita Cosby's new book, "Blond Ambition", which chronicles the death of Anna Nicole Smith.

According to UsMagazine :

Former MSNBC anchor Cosby is the author of Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith's Death. In the book, she writes that Stern, 38, and Larry Birkhead, Smith's former lover and the father of her daughter, Dannielynn, engaged in homosexual acts, which were caught on tape. Further, the book alleges that Stern and Birkhead struck a deal -- Birkhead would get custody of Dannielynn in exchange for Stern being named executor of Smith's estate.

Formulating the Answer:

The Chart

Out of the large list above, I am going to only note the ones that apply and you can consider the others to be not applicable.

#2.  If those three are cadent and afflicted by malefic, the rumor is false whether they are in good zodiacal condition or not.

Answer:   Venus is in Virgo and Squares Pluto.   Venus in Virgo is in its fall and squares complicated Pluto the planet of secrets or underhanded dealings.

#5.  If the benefics are in the 1st, but the Moon unfortunate, the rumor is false and misleading.

Answer:  There are no benefics in the first house of the chart, but the Moon is Peregrine in Libra reflecting a false rumor.

#10.  The Moon square or opposite Mercury, neither in easy aspect to the Ascendant argues that the rumor is true.

Answer:  The Moon is square (hard aspect) the Ascendant.  The rumor is false!

Additional Rules from Storm:

#1.  The third house of rumors, its rulers and aspects to other planets.  If the ruler is in good condition, and in good aspect to other planets, then the rumor is true.   If the ruler is in bad condition, and in bad aspect to other planets, then the rumor is false.

Answer:   The third house is ruled by media savvy Leo, the ruler of Leo, the Sun is in Scorpio in the 5th house of the chart.   Scorpio is a secretive sign, which reflects that the rumor is "shady".   The Sun squares deceptive Neptune in the 8th house, which is the traditional house of sex in the chart.   Saturn is also in the third house, which damages the house all together.

The results of the question:  The rumor is false.  Larry Birkhead and Howard K. Stern were not romantically involved nor have an affair.

This formulated set of rules can be used for any rumor question, yet I find it is a quick way to validate a clients 2nd opinion or alternate opinion.   Many clients are in fear of a situation not working out for them or working out for them.  This is a quick way to either confirm the reading or to help the client begin to get on with their situation and begin to heal their issues.

As far as Rita Cosby is concerned, well we will let a higher power handle that one.  The legal system!
