Day By Day Angels Arrive

Personal feelings and thoughts on life and the world around us.

Reinforce Your Spirituality

So many times in life, people find themselves without inspiration, motivation or drive to move foward.  It's times like these when spiritual strength can be recognized.  Instead of overwhelming yourself with worry or despair, think of another!  Find your mentor who has been an example throughout the good and bad times, of putting a positive spin on life.  Just the thought of them will bring you to dig deeper, think bigger and keep going.

Doing for others, is also another good way to put a positive spin on life.  I'm not talking about money, cars, clothes or material possessions, I'm talking about the self.  Giving of your self to another is sometimes just what another person needs.  It's the selfless act of giving a kind word a much needed smile or a hug to a person in need, that can make the difference they needed to get through another day.  It's all about loving one another, appreciating the time you have here on this earth and using it wisely.

In life we can get much too caught up in what our problems are, and when that occurs we find a place that quickly buries us in a lot of unnecessary worry.  Don't get me wrong, there is a time to think and do for yourself, but in retrospect, there are times when everything in our life is put on hold, because we are to do for others.

I believe my grandmother was always happy because she always thought of others, and her own problems, she found a way to giggle about them.  She bought and stashed gifts for others, year round, never finding herself swamped when the holidays or birthday's came around.  She volunteered at the local hospital and gave her time and her self to those who came in, often scared, and eased their minds by simply having words with them.

One afternoon, while visiting at her home, we all heard a helicopter that seemed to be hovering awefully close to the house.  We wondered and quickly went back to our conversation.  Suddenly, through the back door, came a man, stark naked and covered in his own feces, and went right for the refrigerator.  While the rest of us froze in our chairs, she rose from her chair and offered him some food, and settled him until authorities arrived. Her calm quick thinking is what I admired.  She knew without asking, that this man was not mentally well, and probably had escaped from the mental facility behind her home.  It seemed he was starving, and all he wanted was some food.....simple food.  She grabbed a blanket to cover his privates and opened a can of food he pointed at.  He ate and ate until the authorities came to retreive him.

Treat others the way you would want to be treated.  That's what she taught me. My father, in auto drive, was going to tackle the naked man, to protect the family....but his mother told him not to touch him.  I think he was just as shocked as the rest of us.  She's one of my many mentors..and although she may be on another plane now, I often find myself thinking of her humorous ways and distinct confidence that many admired.

All My Love to you Grandma!
