Giving Hope to Clients When You See Disaster

I was reading this blog post: Live Readings - Am I the only one with this problem?, asking about what a psychic should do when they see death or illness or other misfortune in a clients future. Here is my response:

I've only just joined Keen, so I've not had a chance to do much yet here, but I've been an "in person" psychic for years.

My problem? I see death. It's a natural "gift", I can't plan on it or call it up or anything, it just BAM suddenly I see something about a person's death. When I was a kid, like 3 or 4 years old, I used to run up to people (complete strangers) and tell them I saw them die. By the time I was 8 years old I was so terrified of adults I stopped talking. Why? Because I learned right quick that if there's one thing you do not do, it's walk up to a person and tell them how they are going to die! Some laugh, but other get really really angry.

The biggest problem comes though, not from the person you told, but from the people who over heard you say it. The people would die, in a similar way to what I had said, and people would remember what I had said and than give me hell (or call the police) and say that I had some how killed that person!

In my late teens, I had a drive by shooting and a serious of death threats sent to me and ended up requiring police protection for about 6 months, because some one at my church died after I said they would, and several members went total freak out and decided they had to kill me, before I, in their words: "put a death curse on any one else".

Needless to say, 20 years later, I have learned my lesson and avoid negative psychic readings now. People are scared of psychics to begin with, so it's best not to do or say anything to really terrify them. People come to a psychic terrified they'll hear something bad, but hopeing their'll hear something good.

But yeah, I hear you...doing phone readings is not an option I offer, because I like to take the time to carefully word my readings and soften the blow should something negative show up. I am strictly an in person and via email psychic. It's too easy to just blurt out the wrong thing over the phone (at least for me).

Today many years and lessons later, I have learned that it is best to word psychic advice in the form of hopeful advice. If I see something bad, I point out to them that my Spirit Guides have shown me that there well be "a negative event" in their future, and than I will offer them tips on how to attract "positive energies" into their life, so that they can either change their future themselves thus avoiding the event or soften the blow of the event to make it easier for them to move past it.

In other words, rather than have them come away terrified of some dark event on the horizon, I try to have them go away with a feeling of hope and a sense that they are in control of their own destiny.

I make it my goal to always help people and provide them with a sense of hope regardless of what my Spirit Guides show me about their future. I think of it, as, we psychics are an alternative to Psychologists and Psychiatrist...we provide a form of Psychotherapy and people are coming to us, because they are in some sort of trouble as it is, they come to us seeking something to hope for, so it's our job to give them a reason to look forward to waking up and greeting tomorrow.

Mermaid Oracle Three Card Sample Reading

Mermaid Oracle Three Card Reading For (name removed)

==============================================

Your First Card Is: The Morning Affirmations Card

Card #1 Says:

"Morning Affirmations: Say positive affirmations each morning to open the gates of manifestation."

Farther Explanation of This Card:

Your Spirit Guides are asking you to begin each day with positive intentions and affirmations. Before arising from your bed, spend a few moments thinking about your desires. Don't worry about how to bring your desires into physical form, simple imagine that they have already manifested.

Find one or more positive affirmations which relate to your desires. Write them down. Each morning upon awakening, say them to yourself three times. Then, throughout the day, look at these affirmations and repeat them to yourself.

Here are a few to help you get started:

"I believe I receive and thus I have received."

"Whatever it is, if I can dream it, I can achieve it."

"New abundance and exciting opportunities wash over me in waves of prosperity, right now."

"I love and am loved in return."

"Boundless joy throbs within my heart and through my soul."

"I can relax now. Everything is going to be okay."

==============================================

Your Second Card Is: The Positive Energy Card

Card #2 Says:

"Positive Energy: Surround yourself with positive people and situations, and avoid negativity."

Farther Explanation of This Card:

Your work is going wonderfully well. Your Spirit Guides are encouraging you to take the process to a higher level by going on a "negative diet". This means avoiding negative influences as much as possible. Avoid negative discussions with others. Resist the temptation to use negative words and phrases and avoid saying things which may hurt another's feelings. Do not start or join in conversations which spread gossip and rumors. Turn off television and radio programs with negative themes and stay away from violent movies. Do not read pessimistic headlines and steer clear of gossip based magazines.

This may seem restricting at first, but your Spirit Guides have a message they are trying to convey to you and there are too many negative energies getting in the way of your life right now. They want to help you to hear their guidance and are asking you to surround yourself with only positive and uplifting things for the next few weeks. The negativity diet will cleanse you of any hidden blocks that are slowing down the manifestation of your innermost dreams and desires.

Feng Shui will help enhance the flow of positive energy in your life. Try making your room a bit more pleasing to the eye and sell or donate anything you no longer need or use. Uncluttering your life, even if just a small closet or room, will free your mind of several worries which have troubled you lately and will open up new opportunities for you, bringing new positive energy into your life. Try to create in your life an environment which promotes creativity, health, and abundance, and you will see great things follow.

==============================================

Your Third Card Is: The Time To Move On Card

Card #3 Says:

"Time to Move On: It's time to let go of the old and worn out so that the new can come it."

Farther Explanation of This Card:

Something is holding you back, but the time is right to let it go. Your Spirit Guides are alerting you to the fact that you need to make room for new things to come into your life, by letting go of some old things first.

There is a great emotional struggle at play here. Say "Good-bye" in your mind and heart. Let go emotionally and mentally first, and the physical letting go will come peacefully and naturally in a way that is harmonious to all involved.

Ask for Divine help during your transition and don't plan, scheme, or worry about how your letting-go will occur. You need to put all of your energy into prayer and faith right now and just leave the rest up to the Great Spirit. You will receive guidance whenever the time is right to let go, but until then, stay lovingly detached from the old situation.

Even the strongest person experiences upsetting situations and there is no shame in taking time to heal your heart. This is a good time for quiet reflection upon your true feelings. Write them down in a journal and call upon your Spirit Guides to bring comfort to your heart and mind. They will help you to sleep better at night and put your mind at ease.

==============================================

In Conclusion:

You have recently gone through a period of chaos and confusion which has left you feeling off center. Right now you need a silent retreat with in a safe place, where you can calmly gain some perspective of your life.

Your Spirit Guide tells me that his name is Azreal and that he is sending a warm pale yellow aura to comfort and protect you. He asks you to surround yourself in this color, either mentally in your minds eye, close your eyes and see yourself surrounded by a soft warm yellow glow, or physically, by wearing this color, or wrapping yourself in a warm fuzzy blanket made of pale yellow cloth, or holding in your hand a pale yellow crystal. Azreal asks me to tell you, that you are safe, you are protected, you are loved, and now you can relax, because everything is going to be okay, and every time you see something that is pale yellow in color, you will be reminded of this.

As you journey within yourself, close off all the noise and interference of your outer world. Within this sacred space you are able to connect with your higher self and to your Spirit Guides and feel the oneness of the Spirit that will bring unity back into your life.

This is the optimum time to work on developing your dreams and visions. From a place of balance and solitude, your true nature and potential will reveal itself. Pursue your dreams with the faith and trust that what you aspire to create comes from a higher vision, not from some one else's expectations. If you are working from a place of universal oneness then the ideas and thoughts that flow through your mind are truly inspired by the Divine and Holy Spirit.

Taking time to retreat and gain some perspective will bring you into a state of balance, where your mind, body, emotions, soul, and spirit are working in sync.

==============================================

Say This Prayer Before Going to Bed and Again Upon Arising:

"As I take this time now to gain some perspective within myself, I ask for your guidance, Great Spirit Creator of All Life, to help me to experience that oneness of Spirit that will ultimately bring unity into my life."

So my novel is based around the regeneration of a mad scientist's brain tissue and the transfer of that brain to a new body. I know, a lot tohandle, but my mad scientist died in 1894 in a small village in Romania. He's waking up in the future... not too distant future, say another 50 years? He's waking up in a London Research Hospital with, as you can imagne, all sorts of new technology and resources on his hands.
I don't exactly have a plot, but I don't want to just throw that out to all of you to chew on, because you have your own plots to figure out!
So I'm just going to inquire: What sort of things will my MS be doing or getting into? Something I can work an idea off of.
Thank you in advance!

WOW! I would definatly read this!

He would have died in a time when books by Jules Vern, Mary Shelly, Edgar Alan Poe, and H.G.Wells were being written, so he'd be thinking of stuff like "The Island of Dr Morue", "Food of the Gods", "Frankenstein" and "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea".

But than he'd be waking up in a time when scientists in Texas and Japan are cloning sheep and cats, as of 2007 many endangered animals in zoos are now clones, as of 2008 in Japan $150k will get you a clone of your cat or dog, in 2006 scientists in France took a brain dead man and made the first cyborg, in 2009 scientist crossed jelly fish with rabbits to create green glow in the dark bunnies for boutique pet stores in France, astronauts go to the moon about every 6 months now, a probe is on it's way to Jupiter, and last month Planet Gleise 581 was declared the first planet discovered that is suspected of having human-like life living on it - a probe has been sent to contact life on G581 and will arrive there in 2029.

That is where we are in right now today. 50 years ago, cloning and cyborgs were a myth of science fiction, today they are real. 50 years ago airplane travel was relatively new and space travel and life on other planets was laughed at as impossible. 50 years ago color TV was the ravings of a lunatic, today we not only have color tv, but computers, iPods, and more. If we have come that far in 50 years, think where we will be 50 years from now?

Now take your scientist - a man from a time when clones, moving pictures, and space travel were the ravings of madmen, and here he is waking up in a future where they are part of every day life? The first thing that came to my mind was all those "Giant Monster" movies from the 1950's, like "Them!" with the giant ants, or "Attack of the Killer Shrews" with the giant rats, etc.

Your scientist is going to be thinking about the stuff he grew up with and seeing the stuff we have now and 50 years from now, and he's going to use that to create havoc. He's going to be like iRobot or Matrix or Jurassic Park or I Am Legend or Resident Evil, he's going to create something so big, so advanced, and so devious that it's going to take all the governments in the world to join forces in peace together, just to stop him. I can so see your Mad Scientist going all Umbrella Corp on us.

:) Boy, now you got me wanting to write something like this!

Eel Totem: NaNoWriMo RE: Writing Totems

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird

Totems

I've never had a writing totem, uhm, I don't think...maybe I have and wasn't aware of it???

I do have a totem/spirit animal and it does inspire my writing a lot, so maybe that's my writing totem? You see, everything I have ever written, no matter what it is, what genre, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, spiritual, horror, historical fiction ---EVERYTHING!--- ends up with eels in it. From giant eels eating people to tiny pet eels to people eating eels in sushi to people dreaming about eels...some where, some how, some place, everything I write ends up with an eel in it someplace.

And hey, did you notice my user name? yep - eels again! LOL!

My Totem/Spirit Animals are: Deep Sea Moray Eels and Bobcats, thus EelKat.

I'll see if I can explain how this all came about...

I wrote my first book in 1978 (Vol 1 of *The Twighlight Manor* series... now out of print) the main character of the original book (only a minor character in later volumes) was a talking black bobcat from a planet in another galaxy. Her name was not pronounceable by human tongue, so humans called her Miss Citten The EelKat instead or The EelKat for short. The reason was because she raised rare breeds of eels which she had collected up from the various planets she had visited. She is the narrator of all of my stories, my books being her reports about earth that she sends back to her home planet, so technically she remained the main character throughout the series.

Anyways, that same year (1978) I started using the name EelKat, and so people just know be by that name, so once I discovered the internet (in 1997) I just started using EelKat as my id everywhere.

Being used to writing in *her voice* for my books, I found it easier to write on the internet in the same way.

The story behind my name goes back to a book I wrote years ago, but yes, the character got her own name from an obsession with eels. And so, while my name online comes from the book...

Offline, in the real world, there is a bit more to it than that, because of course EelKat in the book had to of come from somewhere. I used to have a reoccurring nightmare, about monstrous sized snakes coming after me, followed by falling into eternal blackness, than landing in the Scarborough Marsh (a local marsh, which we passed through every Sunday on the way to Church). People have always said I was an odd child, and one of the reasons was, though snakes terrified me, eels did not, in fact I was drawn to eels. None of my relatives were ever able to determine how it was that I knew what an eel was let alone what to call it. In the dream I would fall out of the black hole and land in the water in the marsh, and would suddenly be surrounded by big, huge, green eels, which would swirl around me and protect me from the giant snakes.

Because of this daily/nightly dream which haunted my mind from my earliest memories (at about 2 years old) until late into my teen years, eels eventually became a symbol of peace, love, safety, and protection. If I saw an eel I knew I was safe, loved, protected, that no harm could come to me. Eels became my Power Animal and Spirit Guides.

However, my description of eels was "off" for many years, because I was describing big, huge, 8 feet long and bigger eels with huge sharp teeth and thick lime green skin, and the power to "shoot lightening" at snakes. For many years of my early youth, adult laughed and told me there was no such animal, explaining that eels were small, only a few inches to a foot long, silver or grey, and had no teeth. As I learned years later, marsh eels, freshwater eels, were what they was describing, and I was 8 years old when me, my parents, and several other relatives would come head on face to face with exactly what I for many years had described as an eel.

In 1982, Saco, Maine for a brief period of time had an Aquarium. My family, and several relatives went in on the opening day. We say sharks and seals and squid and fish of every possible shape and size, and than smack dab in the center of the building was the pride of the water zoo: a giant tank, which on first appearances, seemed to be totally empty and filled only with huge rocks full of wholes. We was a large crowd of people, 30 or more standing and waiting, as we were told to do, by our guide who assured us, if we waited just a few more minutes we would see the star of the zoo come out of his cave. We waited, and waited, some people wandered off, and than suddenly with out warning, a huge lime green face, with giant sharp teeth long as my fingers, came zipping out of the cave with lightening speed and dashed his head against the glass, barring his teeth, snapping and snarling and trying fiercely to grab hold of anyone and every one looking through the glass at him. He made the sharks look tame, small, and friendly...he made JAWS look like a sweet happy fairy tale. This creature was angry, mean, and ready to kill. If there had been no glass between him and the crowd he probably would have made an attempt to eat every one there.

Our guide than told us what we were looking at: a rare Green Deep Sea Moray Eel. Not that he was a rare creature, just that he was a rarely seen in captivity, creature, and even less common in the shear size of him. He was 8 feet long and could unhinge his jaws to expand and swallow pretty much anything whole. He looked like he could easily gulp down a few harbor seals in a single bite. But this...this, magnificent mesmerizing creature, this I pointed out and told my relatives, this was the eel I had seen so many times in my dreams, not their tiny freshwater eels, but this giant green eel with a mouth full of teeth. This what what I meant when I said the word "eel".

Seeing this eel face to face was like a pivotal point in my life. It was as if I had come face to face with God himself or something, you know what I mean? It was just one of those moments in life when you can step back and say: "I can relax now, it doesn't matter what happens, because everything is going to be okay." It was just a moment of such, peace and serenity. I was mesmerized by this beautiful giant dragon-like fish. He was just so amazingly breath taking. I spent the rest of the day glued to the tank with me and him staring at each other eye to eye - and his eye was like bigger than my first...it was just completely indescribable, the sense of peace I felt standing there beside this beautiful creature. I think that was probably the most exhilarating moment of my entire life. I wish I could have brought him home with me. And ever since that day, I made it my goal, to some day, some how, some where, have a giant deep sea moray eel of my own. Granted I would need a tank as big as a house, but still, that is my "ultimate goal" so to speak.

No one was ever able to explain, how or why my dreams were filled with an animal I had no knowledge of, let along how or why I knew what to call it. It was just one of those things that adults pointed out was "creepy" about me. I have been told in more recent years that what happened was a "Spirit Quest" or my having entered into "Dream-time", thus making me a natural born shaman. That I have a natural connection to these giant deep sea morays, that they are my spirit guides. Am I a natural born shaman? I have really have no idea and haven't really put much thought into it. Maybe it's something to think about in the future. Are the deep sea moray eels my Spirit Guides? I believe they are, yes, for throughout my life, time and time again, images and pictures of deep sea morays have shown up in my life at the strangest times and in the oddest places. I have come to learn that this is a sign from the spirit world, that when I see an eel, I am meant to pay close attention to the events which follow, for they are very important and very significant.

Oh, yeah, and in case you was wonder, yes, I am a Native American Indian, I am from the Kickapoo tribe. EelKat is also my "Indian Name", you know, like Running Bear or Sitting Bull...mine is EelKat. Eels are my protectors and I am the protector of cats, feral cat rescue takes first place in my life pushing all else into the side lines, when ever there is a cat in need of my help. I will skip work and put seemingly "more important" things aside, when it comes to standing up for, protecting, defending, and rescuing feral cats. It is the very center of my existence. And therefore the two words combine into one to create my "True" or "Indian" name: EelKat aka Guided by Eels and The Protector of Cats

Oh yeah, and I once had a big 2 foot long wild eel named Eli.

But yeah, in a way, you could say that eels are like my writing totem, because, like I said, everything I write ends up with eels in it, and well, everything in my life ends up with eels in it some how.

In all the years that I have competed in this, I have never once had a totem. I've always wanted one, but have never had the money or time to search for one.
What's your totem and how does it inspire you?
Also, what should one look for in a totem? Just inspiration, or should one look for a deeper meaning? ---------- NaNo 2006: The Clearing of Lindsey (psychological thriller/drama/whatever) NaNo 2007: ZOMBUNNIE! Hi! This is my first NaNoWriMo. *Cheers* I like writing, but the truth is, I have major stick-to-it-iveness issues.
Ohh, I get all excited about a plot idea, write 1-5 pages, and BLAM, I have to go to dinner and then I never continue. I no longer care enough about it! It's stupid!
Help?
Anyone have related anecdotes to share? :) ---------- "Tomorrow is the day when idlers work, and fools reform." ~Edward Young
This site will help you out: http://www.squidoo.com/The13StepMethod it has tips on how to keep writing the whole 30 daysI wrote it 3 or 4 years ago, to share with people how I personally keep going the who30 days (I average 200k each year, this is my 6th year). It's a compilation of all my NaNo forum post responses from 2007 - 2009, and will get longer as I start adding my 2010 answers! LOL!
Here's what I try to do... I don't always stick to this schedule, but of the schedules I've tried, this is the easiest on for me. Here it goes:
First off:
I do not write the book straight through beginning to end.
I do not write in chapters.
I do not write to a set "hours per day"
I do not write to a set "words per day"
What I do is, I write small segments or scenes from my book. Say a conversation between two characters. Or maybe the description of a room. Something like that. I find this easier, because I can see a very clear beginning, middle, and end. Not the beginning, middle, and end of the entire book. Not the beginning, middle and end of the entire chapter. Just the beginning, middle, and end of that one scene, which in most cases is 2 to 4 paragraphs long or about 600 - 800 words.
I make it my goal to write three of these segments each day. One in the morning as soon as I wake up, before I even get out of bed. One in the afternoon. One in the evening, last thing just before going to bed. It takes about 15 - 30 minutes for me to write each segment. Or about 40 minutes to an hour and a half each day. In the end I end up with about 2,750 words written at the end of the day.
Anyways, When you take it and break it down into tiny chunks like this, it seems like you haven't written very much at all, when in fact you have gone well above and beyond your word count goal and have no need to worry about padding at all, plus by taking it in small chunks, and skipping all over your story instead of going straight through it, you don't suffer from story burn out either. I hope this helps. Good luck with your story!

NaNoWriMo 2010 - Plot Forming

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird Since writing the last post, I've thought of a plot. It just sort of popped into my head last night. I'm still deciding on genre, it could go several ways, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, but the more I think about it the more it is leaning towards Religious-Supernatural-Spiritual. Probably will end up New Age Fantasy or something like that. I'm thinking of writing a story that deals with the power of dreams and how they effect the MC. It's not religious per say, and leans more towards New Age Fantasy I think, though I was having thoughts about adding the Pleasians into part of it, which could turn it into Sci-Fi right quick! LOL! Briefly: The MC is a Native American going on a Spirit Quest. But it's not a typical Spirit Quest, because every time he falls asleep, he wakes up in another realm/world (is actually transported there). In Dreamtime he meets his Spirit Guide, and each night the Guide sends him on a different "quest" or journey. He ends up, by the end of the book having a deep spiritual "awakening" and returns to his village as a Shaman/Spiritual Leader. The book itself will be sort of a anthology of short stories, where each chapter will be a different night/dream quest. So it'll be like a bunch of mini-stories which make up one big story. I hope that made sense to you. I'm not 100% sure I'm going with this plot or not, I've got a few other in my head too, but this one I really like. Anyways, I'm trying to come up with a title for it and, I'm usually great with titles, but for some reason I just can't think of anything. Here are the titles I've been playing with: "Stepping into Dreamtime" "Walking Through Dreamtime" I don't know, they just aren't quite "clicking" for me yet. Any one got any other ideas for what to call this?

Brainstorming Titles - Shamanisn, Dreamtime, Spirit Journey

Here's my dare: Have an alien (as in outer space) family take up residence in an affluent suburban neighborhood, which upsets the whole town. BP if the aliens are the only ones of their kind to be on earth. DBP if all of the women or men are highly attracted to the alien women or men (in whatever configuration you wish) TBP if the aliens end up saving the earth.
OMG! I've done this one before, only not as a dare. I wrote it way back in the mid1980's, about 1987 I think, but yeah, a family of aliens crash landed in the forest that neighbored a beach front resort town. It sort of disrupted everything because they were royalty and expected to be treated like royalty, but even though they looked human, they acted far from human, and than the son had all the (human) women going crazy-in-love over him. They didn't save the world though, far from it actually. It was a horror story, because well, as it turns out they found humans to be rather tasty, so they were sort of like a quasi-zombie-vampires-Freddy-Krueger from space sort of aliens. =P I was a big fan of the slasher films back than and it sort of effected my books I wrote. LOL!
Okay, my dare for every one:
Regardless of genre have a vampire in your story. BP if = he sparkles. DBP if = he sparkles because he wears a pink sequined cape. TBP if = if he's a concert pianist by day and vampire by night. XTBP if = he's Liberace` returned from the dead.
(I actually wrote this in my NaNovel last year so thought it would make a good Dare for every body this year! LOL!)

NaNoWriMo 2010 Is Still Unplotted, Unplanned, & Untitled

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird I am completely plotless, or is that clueless? In the past I have created huge plots with detailed summaries, massive outlines, and enough character profiles to fill a dictionary. And every single year, I have started NaNo ready to write the story out, only to come up with a totally new unplotted idea on November 2nd and write it instead. So this year, rather than spend weeks plotting and planning, I am just going about life as usual and will not even think about what to write, and will be jumping in on November 1st with absolutely nothing, just writing what ever the heck pops into my head come November 1st. But, whatever I write, you can be sure it'll be horror, sci-fi, fantasy, or supernatural, or rather all 4 rolled into one, because, hey, I've been writing since 1978 and haven't written any other genre yet! Since nearly everything I write comes out horror, this probably will go that way too, whether I want it to or not. LOL! As usual, I'll be aiming high. This year my "official" goal is 75k, but I'm going to try for 250k if I have enough time to write that much, and as it stands right now, it looks like I'll have plenty of free time this year. YAY! It's that time of year again - NaNoWriMo 2010!

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird

I wrote my first book in 1978 and haven't stopped writing since.

NaNoWriMo 2010 will be my 6th year at NaNo. So far I've had 5 years and 4 wins and this year I'm going for my fifth win (or 5 wins going on 6th if you count Script Frenzy too) .

I signed up the last week of Nov 2004, but never actually got started writing anything. Though it was the year I actually signed up, I don't count it as my first year, since I never actually started writing anything!

I failed my "official" first year (2005) ...did like 2,000 before I got bored with my plot. I was confused with the whole "contest atmosphere" too, and had not really gotting into the spirit of the whole write 50k as fast as possible thing, because I was too busy trying to write at my best instead of a my fastest, so I just fizzled out big time.

In the 2006 relaunch of the site, the 2004 archive got deleted, along with the accounts of many members who had joined in 2004. My account was one of the thousands that vanished in October of 2006. :( Luckily, because the system was wiped clean it had no memory of the deleted usernames either, thus allowing us to start new accounts with the exact same usernames. YAY! So, now my account says I signed up in 2006 instead of 2004, like it is supposed to say (many of us whose accounts now say 2006 as our join date, actually joined in 2004, btw.) However, by that time I had spent most of 2006 posting on the forums and had figured out that the contest was all about writing lots of words and hope they come out as a novel, rather than write a smooth polished publishable novel in 30 days, and so by the time November 2006 rolled around I was ready to toss my inner editor aside and try it again.

The result? I did 183,000 my second year/first win (2006) ... kind of to make up for failing the first year, but than never went back to edit it. =P (and I did it long hand too!)

In 2007 I joined Script Frenzy, than life got in the way and I never wrote a word.

I reached 75,000 third year (2007), but I never finished the story, because my computer ate large sections of it the following December! ***screams*** ***pulls out hair*** Lesson learned, I now know to make copies of my draft and save it on a blog I created specifically for saving my drafts on.

In June 2008 I returned to Script Frenzy ready to write what I never got to write the year before, only to learn the contest had been moved to April and was already over! ARRGH!

In 2008, I did the unthinkable and changed my goal from 50k to 200k. YOW! But I did it and finished out the month with my biggest total ever: 238,153 words in 30 days!!!! (spaced out over 5 different books btw - none of which I totally finished, but one of which has since been nearly finished and at the time of this writing had just finished going through it's 4th draft! YAY!)

NaNoWriMo 2009 rolled around and I did not start because I had a stroke October 19th and than got N1H1 a week later. I was determined not to let anything stop me from joining the contest though, so on day 14 of the contest I was back and attempting to write double time, in spite of the fact that my stroke had affected my ability to use my hands and legs. I dragged on very, very slowly, however, in spit of my efforts, but than suddenly in the last 5 days I just sat down and wrote steady none stop day and night and shocked myself when I made it to 114,000!

In 2010, I did the unthinkable yet again and took over as the ML for Script Frenzy in both Saco and Portland and went crazy shuffling write-ins between the 2 regions, but still ended up writing 12 plays each between 10 - 30 "theater minutes" long, meaning I wrote enough for THREE Script Frenzy contests instead of one! YAY!

Now NaNoWriMo 2010 is bearing down upon us and I've decided to try to beat my highest total and try for 250K or more. YIKES! It's a dream, but not my "actual" goal. It was REALLY HARD to reach 200k before, and it had me writing night and day to do it. Don't know if I'll have the time I had that year, and this year I want to focus on writing slower to write a publishable novel. So this year my goal is 75k, and if I go over - great.

Affirmation of the Day: God's wealth is circulating in my life.

God's wealth is circulating in my life. His wealth flows to me in avalanches of abundance. All my needs, desires and goals are met instantaneously because I am one with God, and God is everything.

How to use this Affirmation:

***Written Method:

Write the affirmation on a piece of paper, as many times as the paper will allow. A sheet of college ruled paper will allow you to write the affirmation 32 times. Repeat this 3 times, once in the morning, once around noon, and once before going to bed at night.

***Spoken Method:

Write the affirmation on a slip of paper. Keep the paper with you though out the day. In the morning read the affirmation to yourself 5 times. In the afternoon, read it once again. Read it again before going to bed. By the end of the day you should have read it no less than 15 times.

***Combo Method:

This is the method I personally use. First do the written method, place the paper in your pocket, than through out the day, read it to yourself. The difference here is that each time you read the affirmation you are reading it 32 times, which means by the end of the day you will have read it no less than 96 times!

There are other methods you can use, but I find these methods to be the most effective. They work best if you do them daily, reading the same affirmation each day for a minimum of 30 days. At the end of the 30 day period, the affirmatioon will be second nature to you, and you will no longer need to carry it on a slip of paper, for it will be in your heart and mind, for you to call it up at any time whenever you need it.

Why Do Affirmations?

Affirmations boost your self esteem and help you get ahead in life. Sound silly? It's true. By saying something over and over again, whether it be true or not, you trick your mind into thinking it IS true. Once your mind believes the statement as truth, it begins to go to work acting as though it is truth, which in turn causes you to act on that truth.

For example, if you are stuck in a dead end low paying job that you absolutely hate, but you dream of working in your ideal career, you can use affirmations to help you reach that goal. The ideal affirmation in this situation would be something along the lines of this: "I have the greatest job in the world. I make lots of money doing what I love. I deserve the best and it comes to me NOW!"

Affirmations work on the theory that if you change your thoughts you can change your life. If you think a thought long enough you start to believe it is true. Than if you believe a thought is true long enough, you start acting as though it is true. Finally, if you act as though it is true long enough, you find ways to make it true.

REMEMBER: Affirmations work both ways. If you think you are a failure who can never escape your dead end job, you eventually become the failure who refuses to leave a dead end job. But if you think you are the success who deserves a better job, you will become the success you seeks out the better job and eventually gets it. It's all about how you think. Think big. Dream big. Become big. It's as simple as that. By using positive affirmations to change your thoughts, you CAN change your life!
