On February 3, 2012 Neptune moves into the sign Pisces, where it will be at home for the next 14 years. Neptune takes 165 years to travel through each sign of the zodiac, and Pisces is the natural ruler of the twelfth house. Since Neptune is at home in Pisces, the energy here will be stronger than in any other sign. The sign of Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions, describing its dual nature.

Pisces is the natural ruler of the twelfth house-things secret and hidden, the subconscious mind of the collective.  Here things will play out secretly, and we will feel urgings deep within our individual souls and the collective soul.  The twelfth house rules mysticism, hospitals, isolation, secrets, and secret enemies which at times can even be ourselves. It is sacrifice, suffering and confinement, and will lead to new compassions.  When a planet enters the twelfth house is entering the last phase of its cycle in preparation for new beginnings.  It’s like clearing the deck for a new start.  Neptune cycles are long in duration and a new cycle will not begin until Neptune enters Aries in 2025, which will be the start of a new 165 year cycle.

When Neptune changes signs it is a major planetary shift, and a very big deal, astrologically. It will change the lives of everyone reading this, and those who are not. It signals a change in our deepest psyche and a new direction in thinking and feeling. Neptune briefly entered Pisces in 2011 April-early August.  Since 1998, Neptune in Aquarius has urged us toward personal and collective freedoms, ideas, and changes in viewpoints. Collectively, we have felt the deep seated urge to seek freedoms for ourselves, and in over the past few years we have urged freedom for others as the Middle East erupted in Arab Spring of 2011 and protestors lines the streets of Europe and the US.  Aquarius is ruled in part by Uranus and takes on the attributes of the planet: upheaval, disruptions, change and rebellions.

Pisces is another story altogether. Pisces is an egoless sign rather than one of personal gain, and the spiritual becomes the goal rather than the material. It is a mutable sign, meaning the energy is flexible and chameleon like, and adaptable to change.  It is an idealistic, sensitive sign that is self expressive, dramatic, compassionate and intuitive in nature.

As Neptune moves through Pisces we will become more aware of the need for sacrifice and forgiveness, compassion, and understanding. Neptune in Pisces inclines itself toward romantic ideas, glamour and will be a dose of compassion in a very angry world. Many will strive for a more beautiful world.  Music, movies and art will go to new levels, and we may see new art forms.  As the Uranus-Pluto square shakes the world for the next four years it will continue to bring anger, disruption, and explosive situations in our lives and around the globe, Neptune in Pisces will bring an element of compassion, forgiveness, and working toward the greater good with a non selfish approach. Of course, not everyone will automatically change personalities to personify this description, but there will be a collective element in the world that will that will bring these qualities to life.

Neptune is the most complex of planets, its energies working on a very subtle level. Neptune transits bring about a deep seated and sometimes subconscious desire to merge with something other than the self.  Whether it is a lover, marriage, family, idea, or purpose Neptune causes a yearning at a soul level to join with something bigger than the self. We will feel this longing and in ourselves and the world as a collective. One of the greatest dangers of Neptune relates to the false glamour and delusion the planet tends to generate. It may cause a person or group to follow an ideal, but the over idealization of the dream can lead to great disappointment and total lack of clarity.

Neptune in Pisces will be about art, glamour, romance, creativity, cinema, photography, spirituality and religion, mystics, psychics, dreams, compassion, illusion, religion, transcending of egos, spiritual illumination. The world however, is not a linear place, rather multi dimensional, and where Neptune is involved there is great depth and many layers of truths and illusions that stand in the way of truth. Where there is light, there is dark, and where there is darkness there is a lack of clarity.

Neptune always has a duality of nature that inclines toward illusion, delusion, confusion, lack of focus and clarity, deception, lies, and self deception. Neptune in Pisces rules drugs of all types, prescription and illegal, addictions of all types and alcohol. We will see an increase in addicted individuals, and be forced as a collective to deal with these issues. It rules chemicals, gasses, oil and salt water.

Neptune can also bring deception, strange thoughts, events and trickery. Neptune in Pisces will also be about the more sordid side of life: Prostitution and gambling, narcotics, trafficking of all types, and pornography. Neptune rules mists, fog, and the seas. Pirating will increase and we are at risk of oil and chemical spills. Water, oil, nuclear weapons, chemicals, and diseases, both air and water borne will come into focus one way or another over the next 14 years.  When Saturn squares Neptune in 2015-16 water will become an important commodity, and we may be called upon as a civilization to afford greater protection toward our most vital asset.

Neptune and Chiron- Neptune is within a few degrees of conjuncting Chiron, known as the wounded healer. Chiron has been classified as both an asteroid and a comet and its influence can intensity issues that are already challenging. The effects of Neptune can make it difficult to evaluate the challenges rationally and with clear thinking.  So, in essence the challenges may become worse before they get better or are evaluated for future growth. Spiritual growth and healing seldom occur as quickly as we would wish.

Sir Winston Churchill once said “those who fail remember the past are doomed to repeat it.” Never is this saying more applicable than when looking at astrological trends. Neptune was in Pisces the following periods: 1029-1042, 1193-1206, 1356-1370, 1520-1534, 1684-1697 and 1847-1861.

The last period saw the rise of the industrial revolution, and was the pre cursor to the civil war in the US. Labor conditions began to change and the world morphed into a different time. The Underground Railroad was shuttering slaves through a series of safe houses in the US and out of the country. The abolition of slavery occurred in the French colonies in 1848. Mysticism took hold America. Cocaine was used as a drug and freely prescribed. The Age of Enlightenment occurred in Europe during 1650-1700.

It is within these boundaries we will walk over the next 14 years of our lives as the world shifts into a new age in front of our eyes.

Venus conjuncts Uranus at 1-2 degrees of Aries February 9-10. Venus rules love and money, and Uranus has to do with events that are shocking, surprising and totally unexpected. Venus in Aries is no wallflower. When planets are in this sign events make themselves known quickly, and there is no missing the point. Most of the time Uranus relates to events that seem to shock.  Thus, you may find things out about your love that come as a surprise, and in some cases relationships will take a turn for the worse or in extreme cases end altogether.  Much depends upon how this placement is hitting your personal natal chart, but expect the unexpected, and try to go with the flow today.  In some cases, Venus-Uranus can relate to a day of unexpected pleasure, but if you meet someone new and seem to be hitting it off, this may not last.  Enjoy the moment  if this is the case and again, it depends upon your own personal natal chart.  The full moon occurred February 7, at 18 degrees of Leo, and Leo is the natural ruler of the fifth house of love affairs.  The energy of a full moon usually lasts 5-7 days, at least.

On Valentine Day eve-February 15, Venus squares Pluto. This transit generally produces feelings of obsessiveness and at times jealousy.  Of course, jealousy is often connected to hurt feelings and this is the general theme of this transit. Something in the relationship needs to be regenerated. One way or other, feelings are intensified, and sometimes this can result in an overt form of a power struggle, especially if it is hitting a personal planet in your chart being aspect by 7-8 degrees of Cancer, Capricorn, Aries or Libra. On February 14, Mercury also conjunct Neptune.  This is generally a low energy transit and leads to miscommunication, misunderstandings and is indicative of false information. Don’t jump to conclusions without sufficient facts. The moon is in Scorpio this day, producing intense feelings as well.

On the other hand, if the relationship is generally strong these transits may pass by with little notice, or you may see the more positive manifestations of these transits. Those relationships that are weak, new or uncertain will experience the most difficulties.

Events will also play out on the world stage as well.  Venus-Uranus relates to love as well as money, and in the news we have seen another woman come forward who claims to have had an affair with President Kennedy (JFK). Author Mimi Alford wrote a tell-all account detailing how their relationship started in the summer of 1962, when she was less than half the age of the president, who was assassinated the following year. We may see news of money and financial markets, and markets usually go down with this transit, but in the nature of Uranus, they could go up or down.  Expect volatility either way.

Mars retrogrades at 23 degrees of Virgo January 24.  Mars retrogrades every two years, and the last time this phenomenon occurred was October 17-December 20, 2009, when the planet of action retrograded in the sign Leo. Mars remains retrograde through April 14, and it will remain in the sign Virgo until early July.  Mars is stationary retrograde through January 27. It is generally at this point you will notice a decline in energy or issues start to become more complex. Mars goes stationary direct April 14-21, and you may notice an effect if it is transiting personal planets in your natal chart.  It will remain in the shadow period until June 20, when it reaches the degree at which it retrograded.

What Does This Mean

When Mars retrogrades (every two years) it is time to take a step back. We may feel as though we are paddling upstream. Sometimes retrospection can be quite positive. Action may become slower or more subtle rather than straightforward, especially if you have mutable planets in your chart (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, or if your Mars is mutable). Mars rules physical energy, sex, male energy-men, physical force and your desire to achieve. It describes the male relationships in your life, and sometimes these relationships may stall at this time. Retrograde Mars can give rise to introspection, a slowdown in work projects, accidents, rage, war, or other types of violence if misdirected.  Retrograde Mars is a time to rethink, especially, especially where work projects and health is concerned. Starting large projects or new relationships with men on a retrograde Mars may go through a period of change or end when Mars goes direct in April.

Sometimes Retrograde planets often seem to coincide with fated events, that is events and situations that seem to be out of one’s personal control. Sometimes this represents an outcome of an inevitable situation, other times the event seems to be something unexpected.

Mars in Virgo

Mars retrogrades in Virgo, the natural ruler of the sixth house of work and health.  Virgo is known as the sign of the perfectionist, and during this period it is important not to become too critical of others or ourselves. Constructive criticism can sometimes bring positive change but as Mars retrogrades the criticism may not be so constructive or we may be the victim of criticism. Knowledge is power, and being aware of this tendency can go a long way toward avoiding animosity. Tolerance is called for on all fronts.

Issues may develop with work situations that have to be addressed, and dissatisfaction may become more acute at this time. Plans may be changed, projects altered, and some may leave jobs during this period by choice or forced circumstances. Co-workers and supervisors may become overly critical or concerned with minutia, and problems from the past may come back now as major concerns at this time. If you are looking for a job and in a position to postpone changing positions, that might be advisable, as when Mars goes direct in the spring, changes you were not aware of could occur at that time.

As Mars rules the house of health this can be a positive time to review health concerns or plans. Fitness programs and diets may be implemented or altered, and with some individuals this will be a time of discovering heath issues that may have been previously hidden. (This alone will not cause a health problem- other factors must be present in your chart to signify a major health problem)

As Mars rules steel and cutting, elective surgeries should be postponed at this time if possible.

Events on the World Stage

Mars rules the military, police, surgeons, bank auditors. As Mars retrogrades through Virgo we will see unrest, possible military skirmishes and growing dissatisfaction that will reach more acute stages. As Mars retrogrades it will conjunct Neptune in the US chart January 28-Febuary 6.  We will likely see unrest among demonstrators and groups, dissatisfaction among the workplace and unemployed workers, and the possibility of military threats skirmishes, and saber rattling at this time. We are at risk of violence in the US, and bad decisions based on lies and mistruths, especially abroad. This transit relates to water and situations around water, drugs and chemicals. There will be discord with those abroad.  Those promoting fundamentalist religions may be in the forefront.

This period will be a time of unparalleled violence is Syria as retrograde Mars conjuncts the natal Sun of that country, then squares Jupiter. We will hear of causalities and a call for change of government at this time.

During the period of Mars retrograde criticism will become more vocal about unemployment, the state of jobs/employment in America, and we will hear news that relates to medicine, pharmaceutical companies, health situations and hospitals.

Mars in Virgo relates to bank auditors, and we may hear news of audits and banking practices that come to the forefront.  This could involve big banks, and it may also relate to financial practices at home and abroad that come under scrutiny.

On April 8, Mars retrogrades to 3 degrees opposing Neptune in Pisces at 2 degrees.  Mars turns direct at 3 degrees on April 14, making the opposition prominent, and the planets do not separate until  April 22.This opposition is difficult at best, tiring, and overall negative.  Mars relates to the ego, and Neptune is ego-less, and therein lies the conflict. The best use of this energy is found in serving others and directing the energies toward spiritual practices. We will hear news of situations that are unclear in scope, possible violence and situations relating to water, drugs and chemicals. Mars begins to move forward again April 22, and things will get back to normal June 2, when Mars reaches 23 degrees.

The Planet Neptune is often called the planet of illusion, confusion, delusion, lies and deception. When transiting Neptune makes contact with a planet in the chart of an individual or entity (countries have charts, as well as companies, cities, and all legal entities) situations often occur that involve very peculiar experiences and the collective or individual is often not prone to seeing things in a realistic manner. Deception is the key word, either self imposed or imposed by circumstances designed whereby the individual or collective fails to see clearly what is really happening.

The most commonly used chart for the USA is the Sibly chart, and in this chart, the USA has a 12 degree Sagittarius ascendant and a 27 degree moon in Aquarius that falls in the third house of communication, expression, and debate. In the USA Natal chart the moon represents the common people and their mood.

An Aquarius moon in the chart of a country represents a collective of people who are emotional Aquarians. Aquarius is ruled by both Uranus and Saturn.  Uranus is the planet associated with rebels, rebellions, individuality, and revolutions. One of the best known rebellions in the Western World was called the Boston Tea Party.  The founders of America had a revolutionary spirit, without which America would still be a British colony.

It is totally fitting America has an Aquarius moon and it describes the common feeling of the people.  Aquarius is known as being open minded, fair and impartial, detached and on the cutting edge, as well as ahead of their own time. An Aquarius moon often portrays an interest in philosophy, and finding or creating an ideal world. Aquarius is often about the isms (ideals) of the world- capitalism, socialism, feminism, nationalism, Catholicism, militarism, or whatever the ism or idea of the time may be.

The moon is a changeable luminary, especially placed in the third house. This shows a population of people changeable in their moods and opinions, always seeking that which is ideal. Aquarian moons value friendship and impartial judgment, and are considered to have a ‘world view.’

Transiting Neptune has been conjunct or within a few degrees of the Moon in America’s natal chart since summer of 2008. Neptune conjunct Moon in the natal chart of a country would indicate a population that is depressed, confused, and unaware of events that are be taking place. Incorrect or incomplete ideas are likely to occur, as well as confusion over values, ideas and situations. The moon represents the most primitive of emotions and it is the core of the emotional being. At its worst the transit shows a population that is being duped by the powers that be, and left holding the bag. Not only is the population being duped by the individuals in charge, individuals contribute to their own demise by burying their heads in the sand, and failing to grasp the consequences of their own apathy, disinterest, fear, and willingness to go along with the status quo or move past fear, and seek viable solutions. As Neptune moves away from the moon, clarity will start to come into focus for American’s and situations will be revealed for what they are. At its highest this transit can represent spiritual enlightenment, usually through hardship and sacrifice.

When a planet contacts the moon it will be tempered with the emotionality and influence of the planet involved. Neptune creates a feeling of idealness that may seem very real at the time; Neptune in Aquarius conjunct the Moon of the USA has seemingly called individuals who easily respond to the radical nature of Aquarius to idealize certain political parties, religious views, and other ideas that embrace the ism’s (ideals) or religious-political idealism they perceive as ideal at the time.

This is Neptune in Aquarius in motion, always searching for the universal ideal. Neptune is the most misunderstood of planets due to its dual nature.  Neptune rules spirituality, callings of the highest order, religion and all things spiritual and metaphysical. The other side of Neptune is the dark side of lies, deception, betrayals, misunderstanding, and the potential fleecing of those under its influence due to miscommunication, misunderstanding, or absolute mistruths. It is a nebulous, watery, planet and those afflicted with hard transits are prone to finding out they were wrong about things held most true. It takes a pure heart and unblemished soul to withstand the test of Neptune and not fall under its delusionary spell and live to regret it, or otherwise see the matters in a different light once the transiting planets start to separate. Neptune transits always call for sacrifice in some form, and the desire to merge with something greater than self, whether it be ideas, individuals, or ultimately, even death in some cases. Neptune transits are dissolving in nature, and prone to involve elements of untruths and misconceptions.

Neptune came within orb of America’s moon during summer of 2008 and over four years has enamored American society with the ideals and isms Aquarius is fond of. American’s have heeded the call of Neptune: individuals have chosen to merge themselves with political/religious ideology-whichever side of the isle fits the individual picture of a perfect world. In true Uranian style some of the parties and ideas have been revolutionary and promote an agenda that is totally different from the old. The problem with Neptune idealism is that no matter how real or perfect the ideal may seem, there are often hidden factors involved, lies and deceit, or weak strategies based on unrealistic expectations.

Thus, American’s have promoted what they perceive to be their political parties’ stance on social and financial issues, ignoring facts and focusing on the ism or ideal rather than the problem itself: supporting political leaders and would be leaders who capitalize on mass confusion, promoting an alleged ideal. Thus, it becomes easier for the powers that be-banks, insurance companies, Wall Street, big business and other national and international factions to manipulate and control the masses. An individual under the influence of Neptune-Moon is often duped by others, and he/she often contributes to their problems by failing to face the facts, becoming their own worst enemy by default.

In world astrology Neptune represents deception and confusion, as well as social movements.  The Occupy Wall street movement was born during the last half of 2011, on the final swing of Neptune conjunct America’s Moon, and prior to that the Tea Party Movement. Neptune rules high ideals, but also confusion and lack of focused expression or goals. Their appeal of both groups to the public is on an emotional level, against those perceived as taking advantage of the masses. The Occupy protestors are nebulous individuals who defy definition. Not a bad thing, totally Neptunian in nature.  Neptune is formless, foggy and structure free and absolute focus is usually lacking.  Before the Occupy Movement, March of 2009 saw the rise of the Tea Party. After its initial rise promoters (there were no leaders, by design) began to be seen as off the wall or too radical, which watered down the appeal. Members were against the government and government programs and some of their tactics and speakers bordered ideas of anarchy. Eventually, they were linked to the Washington insiders the Koch Brothers, and the rest is history-the Tea Party became relegated by the mainstream to right wing extremists, hypocrites, and kooks. Such is the way of Neptune-deceit, lies, lack of clarity and dissolution.

The moon rules women, and Neptune conjunct America’s moon has produced several Moon-Neptune female Presidential candidates over the past four years.  First was Sarah Palin, a 22 degree Aquarian herself, with a 6 degree Aquarian moon. She talked about the fact she would not play be the rules, and left her Governorship in Alaska amid allegations of abusing her office, although she was officially cleared of misconduct.

During the first time Neptune was conjunct Palin’s Sun she was touted as the next Vice President of the USA, joining Senator McCain’s campaign for President August 29, 2008. But, the campaign was lost to freshman Senator Barrack Obama. In true Neptunian fashion Sarah, who was once considered a savior by conservative, evangelical Republicans became known as one of the lunatic fringe over the next three years. As the Tea party sank, so did her star and she become host of a TV show. In Sarah, we can see the Neptunian process at its most typical. It begins as a process or event that seems very real.  Sarah garnered the limelight for a time, and anticipated a bright political future, as did her supporters. As soon as she announced her candidacy touting conservative values, her teen age daughter announced an unplanned pregnancy with her on again off again boyfriend. From the start she was surrounded by scandals and mysteries.   She was not up to the intellectual standard American’s expect, her ideas were radical and excluded all but the most conservative, evangelicals, mainly white. She left a State Governorship under a cloud of suspicion, her political star fizzled, and she became a commentator and Reality TV Star. By the time Republican candidates were chosen in 2011 she was considered unelectable and considered a kook by the majority.

Another woman who became prominent during this transit was Michelle Bachmann, born 04-6-56 with a 24 degree Aquarius moon.  Her rise as a Presidential candidate came quickly in late summer 2011, when she won the Ames straw poll. Like Sarah Palin, she lit a fire under conservative, evangelical voters, for a time. While Sarah remained in the limelight for a few years, Michelle lasted only a few months. Her campaign never developed a solid message. One trait she shared with Sarah was a basic lack of facts when it came to American history, and a very public bungling of the facts. Michelle’s campaign seemed to focus on primarily two subjects-God and gays, and she took heat from the American Pediatrics association over her comment the HPV vaccine causes mental retardation, with no evidence to back it up. Again, she embodied the lack of clarity Neptune personifies.

Along with the ill informed HPV vaccine attack, her husband’s concept of ‘praying away the gay’ at his clinics during a time when many American’s support gay marriage, a reassessment of her electability occurred among voters. Rick Perry’s entrance into the race spelled the death knoll for her campaign for President, and she dropped out early 2012. Michelle’s campaign was Neptune at its best-smoke and mirrors with no real structure or solid core, surrounded by mysterious and questionable associations or circumstances.

The biggest event in America during the Neptune-Moon period began with the Bank Bailouts of 2008. During this time, Neptune was within a few degrees of America’s moon. TARP funding was signed into law by George Bush October 3, 2008  in response to the subprime mortgage crisis and authorized the Secretary of the Treasury to spend up to 700 billion to purchase failing bank assets both US and foreign. (The moon also rules housing and home, and the real estate market crashed at this time) Rules concerning the funding were unclear, the public did not have access to information, and would soon find out foreign banks were being bailed out with US taxpayer money, as well.

Some of the money did not go where it was intended. By January 2009, the first TARP fraud case was filed against Nashville based Gordon Grigg and Protrust Management. In January 2010, 86 fraud cases had been opened. The Special Inspector General told lawmakers, "Inadequate oversight and insufficient information about what companies are doing with the money leaves the program open to fraud, including conflicts of interest facing fund managers, collusion between participants and vulnerabilities to money laundering.”

In January, 2012 as Neptune in Aquarius makes its last pass over America’s moon. The US Government Accountability Office stated, “The U.S. Treasury Department has highlighted projected gains while omitting estimated losses in press releases about federal bailouts over the past two years.” Additionally, they stated expected costs were omitted that could render TAARP investments unprofitable. The program remains shrouded in secrecy.

The above are but a few of the most obvious examples of the influence of Neptune conjunct America’s Moon.  It does not address the housing and job crisis, the BP oil disaster, the oil crisis, the wars and causalities that have exhausted American’s hearts and tax reserves. It does not address the hopes the Presidential election of 2008 promised, then disappointed. It does not address the mass confusion many American’s feel over the loss of what was once the American Dream: perhaps the biggest loss of all.

The collective mind in America has been uneasy, burdened with fear and forebodings. As Neptune moves away from America’s moon, the collective, or all of us will begin to see the world in a new and different light. Perhaps a new American Dream will be born. When lessons are learned Neptune-Moon aspects can bring about personal and spiritual illuminations and awakenings and connection with all that is infinite.  As Neptune moves into Pisces in February it will move into the most spiritual sign of all, and perhaps we can begin the long process of healing wounds, lives, people, and the United States of America.

Next: Neptune is Pisces-the Twelfth House/ End of a Cycle

January 2012 marks the final month of Neptune’s journey through the sign of Aquarius.  When Neptune moves into Pisces on February 4, 2012, the human race will begin a whole new cycle of experiences. (Read previous post-Finishing Up the Lessons: Neptune’s Last Dance in Aquarius)

On Christmas Day, 2011, Jupiter the planet of expansion went direct.  This started the forward motion of the planet of money and gain.  Whatever Jupiter touches it expands, and if it is making contact with a planet in your personal chart you may experience some type of increase or growth.  Jupiter is in Taurus, the ruler of the second house of money, and a great placement considering the worldwide economic situation.  Jupiter in Taurus has kept the financial situation in the US from becoming worse than it was in 2011.  It will be in Taurus until June 11. Those born under the sign of Aries should see financial gain this year, as well as Libra. A helpful placement for Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo. (Much depends upon what other planets are transiting your personal chart)

We begin the New Year with Uranus at the 0 degree Aries point, or the World Point.  Aries at 0 degrees relates to events that affect the entire world.  At the time of this post, we are experiencing a worldwide economic downturn, Iran is threatening to interfere with oil shipments, Syria is fighting it’s own bloody civil war, and North Korea laid it’s head of state to rest, facing a future with an untested leader. US President Obama has asked Congress for an increase in the debt ceiling, the Presidential race is heating up, and Occupy Protesters have gained momentum. All these events can affect the world, and Uranus will remain at the 0 degree point through January 9, when it moves to 1 degree. The world has seen a lot of turbulence with this transit and will continue to be an unsettled, if not hostile place in many respects as Uranus squares Pluto becoming exact in June of 2012, as well as August-September.  Pluto and Uranus have about an 8 degree orb, as astrologers say, which means the square is basically in effect all of this 2012. As it becomes exact, the energy intensifies and events/change occurs.  The combination of the two planets will bring potential earth changes, conflict and clashes, situations involving oil and nuclear conflicts, as well as conflict with business, banking, economics, politics, and structures that have been solid in the past. It is a volatile disruptive transit and we will see continued military hostilities around the globe. This will make 2012 a very challenging year. Other significant transits for January include:

January 1, Mercury squares Mars at 19 degrees of Sagittarius. This is an argumentative transit looking for a fight or disagreement. Be aware of your mood and don’t contribute energy to the transit.

Mercury enters Capricorn January 8, changing Mercurial energy and ushering in a more conservative month when it comes to communications. Mercury rules our mind and Capricorn is the natural ruler of the tenth house of business.  Back to work, and focus on what is important! Mercury trines Jupiter on this day, bringing optimism to conversations and thoughts.  Good morning for financial transactions. By 1:05PM Mercury leaves the positive trine and applies to a square to Uranus. Mercury square Uranus may result in a change of focus that occurs suddenly.  It can result I arguments, bad moods, and lead to technical difficulties or accidents. Be careful driving and be aware that whatever occurs will happen suddenly and unpredictably.

January’s full Moon occurs on January 9, at 2:30 AM EST at 18 degrees of Cancer.  Cancer full moons are the most emotional of all, and moods can change quickly. Issues relating to the home, family members or close relationships will be in focus. Mercury square Uranus bringing sudden unexpected news in some cases, and expect to experience mood changes or be around those who do.  You may have sudden flashes of insight, but write it down or it could leave as quickly as it came.  It is likely we will hear unexpected news of accidents, volatile debates, and news involving the home, homeland, or families. Weather conditions may be erratic as may vehicles on the road.  Be careful!

Mercury conjuncts Pluto January 13.  This is a harsh and obsessive transit. Anytime a planet aspects Pluto the tendency is to obsess.  In a more positive vein it is a great transit for researching, planning and getting to the bottom of any issue.  Information may be revealed. Today is about getting answers and superficial will not suffice.  We may hear of accidents, information revealed about powerful people, and Mercury-Pluto transits generally involve situations concerning media and/or propaganda. Information comes into the open about important matters, that can include business. The news may be about sex or scandals involving public figures. Venus conjuncts Neptune on the same day, and this is a transit of duplicity and distortion. Venus is the planet of love and money and Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion and confusion. Put the two together and you have romance, illusion, intrigue and drama, and revelations. The Great Medieval Courts of the Middle Ages could have contained no more drama than this. You should not assume anything to be totally true or correct until this energy passes over. This will be a day many will try to convince or be convinced by others. Remember, appearances are deceiving and only facts speak the truth. Venus-Neptune marks the final planetary transit to Neptune, as it leaves Aquarius, other than Saturn.  This transit will be significant if you were born January 11-14, May 17-20, August 19-22, November 17-21, or you have a personal planet in your natal chart being aspected at 25-29 degrees of Aquarius.

January 14, Venus enters Pisces. The planet of love enters the sign ruling the sixth house of service and work. Pisces is ruled by Neptune, the planet of illusion, delusion, confusion and lack of clarity.  Neptune works best with little ego and this will be one of the lessons of Venus’s 29 day journey through Pisces. Works best for Water and Earth signs.

January 19, the Sun squares Saturn This is a hard aspect, all about responsibilities, limitations, and restrictions. On this day we may hear news of courts, and laws, as well as restrictive situations.  Not a good day for financial news, and may be especially harsh if it is hitting a personal planet in your natal chart aspected by Capricorn at 26-29 degrees.

January 20, the Sun enters Aquarius.  Aquarius is a fixed sign generally associated with freedom and independence. Ruled by Uranus (and Saturn) Aquarius is about non conformity and rebellion.  I have seen many wars and military skirmishes start with the Sun or other planets in Aquarius. You may discover new possibilities this month.

January 21, the Sun sextiles Uranus, a positive, uplifting transit, indicative of inspiration and new ideas. January 22, the Sun squares Jupiter.  Jupiter has a tendency to over-do things.  Keep it in perspective, and you may have a good weekend.

January 23, we have a New Moon at 23 degrees of Aquarius.  The New Moon sextiles Uranus, and this moon may well bring new inspirations, ideas and developments. This moon is about freedom, original inspiration and getting out of a rut. We will likely hear news of revolutions, governments and new ideas.

January 24 Mars retrogrades at 23 degrees of Virgo. The planet of action retrogrades roughly every several years. Mars rules action and men, sex and vitality and when Mars retrogrades look for action to slow down and become more subtle.  Mars will remain retrograde until April 14, when it will go direct at 3 degrees of Virgo. mars remains in Virgo until July 4. You will be affected more so if you are a Virgo or born under a mutable sign: Gemini, Sagittarius or Virgo. Mars in Virgo relates to work situations and health.  This period will usher in a more hypercritical energy, minutiae, worry and a generally overly critical period.  Good for analyzing, but bad if projected toward others. There may be much dissatisfaction with work, and concerns over health and healthcare.  I will address this aspect in a future blog in the near future. Look for news about health and healthcare, work, jobs, and bank audits.

January 27, Mercury opposes Saturn This is harsh energy indicative of concern with responsibilities, serious or negative news, arguments, accidents, and critical concerns.  We may hear of accidents, hostile debates, changes in laws and governments, and many people will be concerned with serious matters.  Relationships can break apart.  This will affect your personal chart if you have personal planets aspected at 25-29 degrees of Libra.

January 28, Mercury enters Aquarius We are entering the fixed part of the winter with the Sun and planet of communication in the sign ruling freedom and detachment.  Mercurial energy will change from conservative Capricorn to a sign that is generally lighter, freer and less concerned with tradition. I expect much news from the Middle East and other places and people around the globe who seek freedom.

Neptune’s Last Dance in Aquarius

January 2012 marks the final month the much misunderstood planet of illusion, confusion, delusion and spirituality journeys its final 34 days in the sign of freedom, revolution, and detachment. Neptune entered Aquarius January 30, 1998 for the first time, and moves into Pisces February 4, 2012. This will be a whole new realm of lessons and ideas for humans to process and evolve with.

Neptune transits generally last 13-14 years in duration, and when Neptune changes signs the world changes with it. Neptune changes things on a feeling level. Neptune reflects the longings, dreams and desires of the collective as well as the individual, whether they be political, artistic, or even a religious. In mythology, Neptune is connected with the mermaid and the sea, beckoning mortal man to submerge himself. Some could call it a union with God or the infinite, and it becomes enticing because you no longer feel the separateness that exists between man and God.  Neptune influences urge us to merge, whether it be with God or another individual. Neptune influences our deepest, most primal feelings and urges both collectively and individually.

Astrology deals with many different levels of existence and being.  One level is the collective consciousness, and events that affect everyone living on planet earth.  Another level is individual consciousness and growth.  During years of great conflict such as we will face in 2012, we must all participate to some degree in worldly events as they occur, but we must remain individual entities with our own path to follow.  We can never lose sight of the fact that as human beings we are growing and changing, and follow our greatest potential.  During all difficult times the world has experienced, individuals will prosper, grow and love in spite of worldly events.

Neptune in Aquarius has been concerned with the themes of the planets that rule Aquarius: Uranus and Saturn.  Saturn represents our structure and foundation, and Uranus rules sudden and unexpected situations, upheavals and revolutions that can occur.  It is the planet per say of revolution, change and new ideas.

At no time was this more apparent than 09-11-2001. Neptune was at 6 degrees of Aquarius, and Saturn in Gemini opposed Pluto in Sagittarius at 12-14 degrees. Boundaries became blurred at this time and freedom was questioned. Freedoms of the American people came into question with the Patriot Act, and freedom for citizens to travel and operate freely across the globe soon came into question.  Osama Bin Laden eventually claimed responsibility for the bombings blaming the US support of Israel, presence of US troops in Saudi Arabia, and US sanctions against Iraq as his reasons for the bombing. All of these reasons imply the theme of freedom on another level.  Neptune rules religion and in the eyes of many, including then President George Bush, who used the word "Crusade" to describe his war against the people he called "evildoers." Bush believed the United States of America a Christian nation, and that the government should be used to promote Christian religious projects. General Wesley Clark reported in his book the White House drew up a list of exclusively Muslim nations to target as enemies over the next four years (Afghanistan, Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and the Sudan)

At the time of this post Arab Spring as become Arab Winter-2011-12 as the revolutions throughout the Middle East continue, and citizens voice their desire for a new kind of life and government. Gone are the cruel dictators of Libya, Egypt and North Korea.  As Neptune moves into Pisces time will reveal the future of these countries and whether self governing democracy and free elections will succeed in this part of the world.

On American soil the Occupy movement gained momentum with citizens calling for freedom from corruption, and unfair banking and financial practices, along with the right for all citizens to have health care. Politicians and would be contenders decry the unfair foreclosures and Wall Street practices. Contenders to the White House bring freedoms of women into question raising questions about a woman’s right to chose. Our foundations will be tested in the US during 2012 as Uranus squares Pluto and Pluto conjuncts Venus in the US chart.  American’s will have to decide what they value the most during this year.

Neptune reaches it’s final degree on January 15, 2012. The Sabian symbol description of Neptune at 29 degrees states. The beautifully winged insect has just come forth into glorious adult being on completion of its metamorphosis.”

Perhaps it’s fitting Venus will make the final aspect to Neptune outside of Saturn on January 14.Neptune is the higher octave of Venus. Venus is the planet of love and money, and Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion and confusion. Put these two together and you have romance, illusion, intrigue and drama, and revelations. The Great Medieval Courts of the Middle Ages could have no more drama than this. You should not assume anything to be totally true or correct until this energy passes over. This will be a day many will try to convince or be convinced by others. Remember, appearances are deceiving and only facts speak the truth. It is likely we will hear of scandals on this day or situations involving money. At it’s highest this paring can bring true spiritual love.  This day will be significant if you were born January 11-14, May 17-20, August 19-22, November 17-21, or you have a personal planet in your natal chart being aspected at 25-29 degrees of Aquarius.

The planet of structure (Saturn) will trine Neptune January 15-Febuary 3.  This represents a time span that is a window of opportunity to solidify hopes, ideas, and compassion to others, and find a way to solve problems that is both positive and in line with reality.  It is a mature appreciation for beauty and the mystical, that which lies beyond reason, and compassion and bring to fruition answers, ideas and events that have a positive, solid and uplifting result.   This energy applies to individuals as well as couples and governments and governing techniques. Saturn trine Neptune is a creative flow of ideas and longings, compassion and action built into action and solid structures.  The energy is there.  It is up to us to take advantage of it.

Next: January 2012-Part 2-The Transits

Mercury conjuncts Pluto, becoming exact January 13. This is a harsh transit, prone to obsessing. In a more positive vein it is a great transit for researching, planning and getting to the bottom of any issue. Information may be revealed that was previously unknown. It is about getting answers and superficial ones will not suffice. We may hear of accidents, information revealed about powerful people, and Mercury-Pluto transits generally involve situations concerning media and/or propaganda. Information comes into the open about important matters, that can include business. The news may be about sex or scandals involving public figures.

Venus conjuncts Neptune over the same period, and this is a transit of duplicity and distortion. Venus is the planet of love and money and Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion and confusion. Put the two together and you have romance, illusion, intrigue and drama, and revelations. The Great Medieval Courts of the Middle Ages could have no more drama than this. You should not assume anything to be totally true or correct until this energy passes over. This will be a day many will try to convince or be convinced by others. Remember, appearances are deceiving and only facts speak the truth. Stick with what you know to be real, and leave the rest to withstand the test of time. At best, you could experience this as a romantic interlude, but make no major decisions based on these few days.

The Sun conjuncts Pluto Thursday December 28-29. This is harsh, compulsive energy, that is prone to power struggles, the uncovering of facts, and dealing with situations that have decayed, or deteriorated. Sometimes a renewal or rejuvenation is called for or this transit can relate to endings if it is hitting a personal planet in your chart. Pluto rules oil, nuclear situations and the ‘powers that be, ‘in the world and we will see this reflected in the news. Sometimes Sun-Pluto is a feeling of ‘forced change.” By Saturday night, December 31 Mercury is squaring Mars. This is harsh energy for New Years Eve-Day. I urge caution in all matters and feel this is a dangerous few days in the world. You may feel irritated and if it is hitting a planet in your chart the effects will play out. Mars-mercury relates to arguments, debates, and accidents. I expect to see more accidents than normal. If you are driving or out in public do be careful! By Monday, January 2, the energy will start to lift, paving the way for a more peaceful holiday. Happy New Year!
When I was in  my 20’s I met two older women, I will call Ruth and Sarah.  Ruth was in her late 50’s, and had divorced in her late 20’s with 3 children.  Ruth had worked as a waitress, from the time of her divorce, and had little to show financially.  When I got to know her, I asked her why she never remarried?  She proceeded to tell me the story of her life: after her divorce she met the love of her life, the most wonderful, successful man in the world.  He ran a well known business, and was a State Senator.  Wonderful, brilliant man and the sky was the limit. Only one problem—he was married.  She began dating him, waiting for him to leave his wife and three children.  The future looked bright—she loved him, and he always called.  She saw him at least once a week, and some days he dropped by the restaurant where she worked. She never out and out asked him exactly when he would leave, but she knew he would because he always told her how unhappy he was at home.  Soon, she was 30, then 35.  Still waiting, but she knew the day would come.  Still working in the same two restaurants, always hoping to see him at lunch.  When he came in with his friends and political associates they would act as though they didn’t know each other, but that was ok..after all, he had an image to uphold.  Couldn’t let the constituents down.  Someday, she wouldn’t have to pretend.

It was ironic that I was listening to the news that day, in another town, having not yet met Ruth. A well known State Senator and businessman had shot himself at point blank range and left a suicide note.  An investigation was about to occur into his finances, and he would likely face a criminal investigation. He believed his life would be ruined, and his family disgraced, and he took the easy way out without having to face his actions.

I didn’t think much more about it until I met Ruth and put two and two together years later. I asked if it was the same man and yes, it was.  We were sitting in the living room of a local psychic waiting to get a reading.(long before the days of Keen!) She was there for a reading because she was convinced this man had left her money.  After all, she devoted the better part of her life to him.  Worked 2 jobs, and waited. She never went back to school because she knew her future held a man who loved her and was financially secure.

Over the years I periodically saw Ruth from time to time and she would tell me about her latest theory as to where she believed the money was that he intended her to have.  She spend the last 10 years of her life getting readings, asking psychic after psychic when she would find the money.  When would she be contacted by an attorney? The fact is he never left her anything, he left it all to his family.  She spent 30 years of her life waiting for a man to whom she was convenient. Sure, he would drop by for sex, why not? Things were comfortable, easy, she adored him, idolized him and worshiped the ground he walked on, and she was attractive.  What did he have to lose?  Probably, he was even fond of her. She cooked for him, listened to his problems and was always there.  But, in the end she hadn’t cost him a thing.  He never had to work for anything, she made it easy. Always Waiting, and getting readings. A few years ago, I heard Ruth had passed away.  She never found the money.

Sarah had a similar situation to Ruth. She divorced in her early 30’s and was in her 50’s when I met her. She was a smart sophisticated woman, and I wondered why she was alone?  She too, had a story to tell. Met a wonderful man shortly after her divorce and began spending time with him.  One glitch-he was married with kids.  He too, had a high profile job, and had to be very careful about his whereabouts. They began seeing each other and many days he would come to her apartment.  He was unhappy at home, but because of the kids and his job couldn’t leave his wife.  They would take vacations together, and see one another frequently.  Sometimes they would go out on the town and some of his friends knew and accepted her.  He led a double life. Weekends and holidays, Sarah was always alone. When I met Sarah she told me she had spent the last 20 Christmases by herself.  Christmas Eve he would manage to get out and make a 3 minute call to her apartment.   He promised that when the kids were all in college he would leave his wife for her.

One by one the three kids went off to college, and when the last daughter was finally enrolled in school, she asked if he was ready to leave.  Yes, the kids are safely away in school and he wanted to move on with his life.  There was only one problem—his wife’s name was on all of the assets and she was threatening to take more than her fair share.  He could be free—but at a price.  But, he had an appointment with a lawyer to find out exactly what he would end up with if he divorced her.

Before he could attend that meeting he dropped dead of a heart attack, and she found out by reading the newspaper. His wife and family were grief stricken, but well provided for. Sarah was grief stricken and nearly 60. She had to move out of her apartment that year as she could no longer pay the rent. I never saw her again. Like Sarah, she had put her career and social life on hold, never moving forward and never investing in her own future. His friends that had casually accepted her suddenly no longer knew her name.

Today this man’s children are all accomplished and his youngest daughter plays a role in politics. She enjoys a happy and successful life as do his other children.  But, none of them have ever heard of a woman named Sarah.

Life is Short. Time goes by faster than you know.  Who are you spending your time with?

Mercury went direct Wednesday 14, at 3 degrees of Sagittarius. This is called the ‘stationary direct,’ period which lasts through Thursday, December 15. Don’t think things will instantly return to normal though. The most intense periods of retrograde Mercury are the stationary retrograde, and stationary direct period-now. As a matter of fact, more glitches and foul ups occur at this time than any other. As the next few days go by, things will start to straighten out a bit. Mercury retrograde is actually a process that is psychologically and otherwise quite intense and involved. Mercury is moving forward, but things will not return to normal until the planet of communication reaches the point at which it went retrograde-which is 2 degrees of Sagittarius. That is in about two weeks or January 2, 2012. Until then, relax as you can, and don’t sweat the small stuff!
Uranus retrogrades back to 0 degrees in November, called the Aries Point, or the World Point. “The AP represents a movement (cardinal) from an inner quality to an outer manifestation. It orients us towards the world at large—society, public events and all relationships propelled from the individual to the collective. Sometimes it represents a "spectacular out rush of energies... and involvement with the world at large" Celest Teal.

The 0 degree point of Aries concerns to our will to be or become as individuals, moving from internal subjectivity to outward, external manifestation. This energy will manifest is all of us as individuals and the world collectively. Aries rules the first house of the zodiac, the I AM, the individual will. Aries is ruled by Mars the planet of action. Uranus is the natural ruler of the eleventh house of the zodiac, the collective.  It also represents groups and associations. So, each individual will come into a new awareness of what he/she wants and desires, as will the world as a whole. Now is the time to harness this energy as an individual to move forward and become what you may have desired to be for years. Of course nothing is this simple, and everything depends upon the individual natal chart. But, the energy is available to those who will recognize it.

Uranus was at the 0 degree point summer of 2010, and again mid-March-mid-April, 2011. So far, we have seen earthquakes, ocean contamination and disasters, tsunamis, revolutions, upheaval and conflict in the world to name a few. Uranus reaches the 0 degree point on November 11, and it will remain there until January 8, 2012. The planet or revolution and unexpected events goes direct December 10 increasing the energy. I would not be surprised if we see worldwide events within hours of this day.

Uranus acts swiftly, and events in the world are already starting to unfold. Turkey has suffered a massive earthquake.  Unfortunately, there will be more disasters to come around the globe during this time, either man made or natural, and some of them may involve nuclear energy or explosives in some way. We experienced this before with the nuclear meltdown in Japan after the tsunami, earlier this year.

October 25, writer/filmmaker Michael Moore was interviewed on CNN.  He was asked how he thought capitalism should work.  His response was (I am paraphrasing) “When I was growing up, a person worked hard for a company.  The company prospered and so did the individual.  Now, the individual works hard, the company prospers, and the person loses their job,” Many individuals view banks, insurance companies, oil companies, and other conglomerates as greedy entities who no longer serve the individual. Thus, a new movement is born called “Occupy”…Wall Street, Portland, and other cities, and the movement has gone global. The goals of the movement at times seem disorganized, but their basic tenet is to bring attention to those masses of individuals who have been victimized by corporate entities. This movement will continue to gain momentum.

Thus, we see the effect of the Pluto-Uranus square that is occurring now, and will be for years to come, that will bring change to society and the world. Pluto rules the ‘powers that be,’ corporations, banks, entities that hold power, and abuse power.  As Uranus squares Pluto there will be clashes among the powers that be and individuals as ordinary people are no longer willing to tolerate the abuse and misuse of power affecting their lives. The world is hardly black and white, however. Groups, and entities will clash with governments and power brokers that do not necessarily have the ‘good of the people,’ at heart, rather their own ideological statements to make. This can include terrorist groups, religious groups and organizations and other entities guided by their own desires and dictates. Let’s not forget US Congress, the Tea Party and other organizations/governments, who refuse to bend or negotiate their own personal ideological principals. This is not a political statement, but an astrological one, and is going to be difficult, if not impossible to come to a meeting of minds with everyone pushing their own agenda. This is a global situation, not limited to the US.

When Pluto, the planet (yes, that demoted landmass in the sky) that rules the experiences we have as a collective, was in Sagittarius, expansion ran amuck. This period lasted from late 1995-2008.  Times were good, and no one thought they would end. By January 2008, Pluto entered Capricorn.  For those paying attention to the financial markets this was the point of no return. Capricorn is the sign ruled by Saturn. Saturn has to do with restriction, and control, and does not move quickly. Capricorn rules banks, corporations, and conservative entities. 2008 was the year of the first bank bailout, (Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 208) and few or limited restrictions were placed on the taxpayer money. To this day information regarding much of this money remains unknown. With Pluto in Capricorn we are at risk of conservative entities becoming the “Gods of the Universe,” and abusing their power. Uranus in Aries is not going to take this lightly, and the clash between the two will last for the duration of the Pluto-Uranus square-in other words until 2016. In 2023 Pluto moves into Aquarius. Aquarius is ruled by both Saturn and Uranus, the planet of revolution. The eleventh house rules groups and the collective.  But, that will be another story.

And so, we can see the events of 2012 as they unfold before us now. 2012 will be a year of clashes, disruption, disasters, eruptions and change on the planet we call Earth, some of it unexpected and unpredictable.

On November 7, Mars opposes Neptune.  This is generally tiring, depressing energy, and we may see weather conditions that involve water. It can also involve situations involving gasses, contamination and germs.  We could hear of deaths.  It is a transit indicative of lies, fraud and untruths. This energy will increase if it touches any of your personal planets in your natal chart.  NY Astrologer Mitch Lewis writes it is generally negative for the financial markets. Creative projects, or psychic abilities/readings/interests might be a place to focus energy under this configuration, and it is best used for serving others.  Just two days later on November 9, Neptune goes direct.  This places Neptune’s turn-around very close to this transit, amping up the energy. It may be hard to see the truth until this transit passes. As Neptune goes direct we will look at things with more clarity, as opposed to burying our heads in the sand and avoiding reality. Neptune turning direct calls for compassion and understanding with yourself and others.

The Full Moon occurs on November 10, at 18 degrees of Taurus.  Taurus is the natural ruler of the second house of money, and this moon will be about money, possessions and personal security. You will be especially focused on money if you were born under the sign of Aries or Libra, as the full moon falls in your second or eighth houses, respectively. Mars is still within orb of opposing Neptune, and the situation may seem unclear, or discouraging.  This energy will pass within a few days and you will have more clarity.  It is likely we will hear news of banks, banking, and there could be events that occur regarding the global/European financial crisis at this time.

On this same day, Mars enters Virgo. This is significant because Mars will be in this sign for the next eight months. Mars generally spends 40-60 days or so, in a sign, but Mars will retrograde at 23 degrees of Virgo in January 2012, and be in this most critical of signs until July 2012. Virgo is the natural ruler of the sixth house of work and health, as well as service to others and it is here our attention will be focused for many months. Mars in Virgo will make it easy to be overly critical with others, or vice versa.

On Thursday, November 24, Thanksgiving Day in the US, Mercury retrogrades at 20 degrees of Sagittarius. Mercury retrograde has a bum rap most of the time because it causes delays, breakdowns of equipment, and miscommunication. The energy is best used as a time to reflect, and re-do.  Many times missing information will come to light on retrograde Mercury. Mercury reaches the stationary retrograde phase on November 24-25.  It is at this point we begin to feel the change and glitches really become obvious.  There is a shadow period that occurs November 21-24, and some may feel it even earlier. Mercury goes stationary direct on December 13-16, and officially goes direct on December 14. But, it is still in a shadow period and will not return to normal speed until January 2, 2012.

Mercury retrogrades in Sagittarius this time, the natural ruler of the ninth house of world outlook, legal and medical issues, travel, publishing and education. Author Carol Rushman writes, “When Mercury retrogrades in Sagittarius or the ninth house the mind may turn to spiritual matters. Fervor, idealism, and optimism can manifest. Thoughts of travel to far off places may consume you. There can be a strong need to communicate your ideas and an inclination to exaggerate and elaborate on your ideas.”

On November 25, a New Moon occurs at 2 degrees of Sagittarius and this is a solar eclipse. This will be followed by the companion full moon and eclipse at 18 degrees of Gemini on December 10.

New moons/eclipses often relate to new beginnings and the start of a new personal cycle. Sagittarius is the sign of ‘wide open spaces,’ and the sky is the limit.  Of course, herein lies the problem. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, and we must guard against over-expansion.  Follow your dreams, but keep your feet on the ground.  It is all about beliefs, truth, and understanding.  Sagittarius is the natural ruler of the ninth house of travel, education, medical/legal matters, travel, publishing and our world view, so to some extent it is here we will all be focused.

Mercury retrogrades the day before the eclipse, throwing a wild card into the configuration.  Retrograde mercury can cause events to go haywire, it can correct situations and often in the case of an eclipse it delays events. Venus trines Pluto giving depth of feelings to the day, and this can be a positive influence for relationships. Of course, everything depends upon where this eclipse falls in your personal natal chart.

Author Celeste Teal calls this eclipse, ‘Blazing New trails,’ and writes about how it will affect us on the world stage, “Jupiter ruled eclipse accents publishing, travel, religion and foreign relations.  Potential for grand and useful reforms. For the USA eclipse in the third house shows travel for President and/or focus on travel conditions and transport workers. Potential for accidents and/or discontent of workers. Extension of power of nation in world, although some complications to overcome. Concerns over secret enemies, and/or prison or hospital conditions. A mysterious crime or scandal emerges. May increase divorce rate. May be death of a noble. The eclipse is of emphasis for Afghanistan, China, Australia, France, Mexico, North Korea, Palestine, Roswell, NYC, NASA and the White House.”

Mercury, the planet of communication is currently in the ‘shadow’ period proceeding it’s retrograde which occurs November 24. During the shadow period, which begins at the degree where Mercury will eventually go direct, you may start to notice some of the effects typical of retrograde Mercury: mis-communication, delays and problems relating to communication of all types.  Mercury will retrograde at 20 degrees of Sagittarius, the natural ruler of the ninth house of travel, education, and publishing. This will send communications of all types into a period where glitches, snarl-up’s and misunderstandings are more the norm than not! This period will continue for the next three weeks, and Mercury will go ‘stationary direct,’ on December 14, at 3 degrees of Sagittarius.

It is best not to purchase high ticket items on retrograde Mercury, get married, make important decisions or start new projects. Events and situations will be exposed that you are unaware of. Look for delays and difficulties with equipment and communication and meetings. Your mind may not be as clear as normal and forgetfulness can be a problem. Those who are Christmas shopping would do well to finish before Mercury retrogrades, Otherwise, you may be returning gifts.

New relationships that begin at this time may or may not continue after Mercury goes direct in December, and will have to withstand the test of time to know if it is a viable situation for you. Relationships begun under a retrograde often fade out when the planet goes direct. Alternatively, you may hear from someone from your past, and it is often a time of reconnecting with those we have known before. Relationships that have been limping along may break off all together.

Mercury retrogrades approximately three times a year, and it marks a time to re-access, re-evaluate, clean up projects and situations from the past. It is not a time to initiate new starts, but to think situations through clearly, and with the retrograde in Sagittarius, new ideas may emerge, resulting in a clear picture of your direction or project when the Winged God moves forward next month.  Retrograde Mercury has a bad rap.  Some of it is justified some not. It is part of the natural cycle of life, and is best lived by channeling the energy in the proper direction: reflecting, re-evaluating, redoing,  and re-accessing your life situation. Go against the grain of this advice and you will experience the more difficult side of Mercury retrograde.

 Fated Events and Situations

Retrograde planets often coincide with events that seem fated: that is events or situations occur that seem to be thrust on us or out of our sphere of ability to control. Business deals and projects fall through, people break up or get back together and we have seem to have no power over what is happening. Issues that have not been previously resolved come back to haunt is. Retrograde Mercury relates to the past and sometimes we reconnect with people and situations from our past.

Retrograde Mercury is a Cycle Not a Date

While Mercury officially goes retrograde November 24-December 14, it is actually a much longer cycle and events and energy will be altered at different levels during this cycle. The shadow period is when Mercurial energy actually starts to change and we become more retrospective. This period began November 5. The stationary retrograde period occurs November 24-25, and this is where the change in energy becomes obvious. Mercury reaches 20 degrees of Sagittarius, at which point it ceases moving forward and prepares to retrograde back through the previous degrees, retracing it’s steps. The stationary retrograde period is usually when events and situations occur, letting us know the ‘communicator, and the trickster,’ is preparing to weave it’s magic and we are going into a period of altered mercurial energy that will play out for the next number of weeks. It is a period of correcting situations and reviewing the recent past. The stationary direct period will be especially significant if it is transiting a personal planet in your chart. Mercury goes ‘stationary direct.’on December 14-15.  Next to the stationary retrograde period, more retrograde type situations (miscommunication, misdirection) occur at this time than any other.  Sometimes situations change course again at this time.  The ‘shadow period,’ occurs between December 15, and January 2.  Mercury is moving forward again, and progress is in sight but things are not totally back to full steam ahead.  That will occur on January 2, when Mercury crosses the degree at which it went retrograde. Then, it’s full steam into the New Year!

.

Astrology can show us what we desire in a life partner, as well as obstacles we may have to overcome, and timing of events. Sometimes what we think we desire, is not exactly the same as the type of individual we attract. Sometimes the attraction is conscious, sometimes unconscious.

In a man’s chart the planet Venus is indicative of the type of woman he desires and wants to be with.  Venus is our desire nature, and represents the “type” a man is drawn to.  The Moon however, represents the true emotional nature, and in a man’s chart it represents the wife. This may differ from his Venus.  Sometimes a man may feel attracted to one type of woman, but in the end he will marry the kind of woman represented by the Moon in his natal chart. Sometimes the Moon and Venus are in conflict. In which case he may be attracted to one type, but marry another. When the moon and Venus are in harmony with each other, what he desires and wishes to marry are one and the same.  But, this is not always the case.

October-November Horoscopes

Aries- Aries-If you were born March 21-25 you have been pummeled over the past several years by Pluto, Saturn and now Uranus. If you were born on March 21-23, Uranus will conjunct your Sun through February 2012, bringing unexpected events to your life, changes and a strong desire for personal freedom to express yourself in ways that are unique to you, as an individual. If you were born March 26-28, Pluto will square your Sun the last quarter of 2011. If you were born before these dates, Pluto has already crossed your Sun and after the above dates, Pluto will eventually create a square to your Sun. The further out you were born, the further away this transit is. Pluto will be in Capricorn through 2024. Pluto-Sun transits often change or transform situations, or partners in your life. Pluto-Sun transits often seem to bring a crisis, either in your personal life or business, but your ambition will be high. Pluto is the ultimate planet of change and transformation, and after Pluto crosses your Sun, individuals often feel they have gone through a period of major change in their life. Most of them report a change for the better, in the end. Saturn will move from 19-28 degrees between October and December 31, 2010. You will be affected if you were born April 7-19. Saturn opposing Sun transits often weed out relationships that no longer serve a purpose. Otherwise, Sun-Saturn oppositions create delay, frustrations and obstacles. Occasionally, this signifies a health problem, and is often connected with stress, tiredness and a feeling of being world weary.

Those born April 8-11 will experience Sun-Saturn oppositions in October, April 12-15 in November, and April 16-19 will experience this in December.

During October Venus, the planet of love and money will transit your eighth house of sex, and other people’s money. It will give you a slight lift in these areas and help with creative ways to make money.

Mars, the other planet connected to your love life will be in your fifth house of love affairs until November 11. This happens only every two years, so if you are single it is a great time to meet someone new. By October 24, the Sun, Mercury and Venus are all zooming through your eighth house, placing a focus on your sex life, and corporate money. The eighth house can also indicates surgery, lawsuits and inheritance, but it would take more than these fast moving planets in your chart to create a situation like that.

The October new moon on October 26, falls in your eighth house of sex and other people’s money placing a focus on these areas. The eighth house is also the house of change and transformation, and can signify personal changes that lie ahead.

In November, the planets start to shift into Sagittarius, beginning with Mercury and Venus on the 3rd. Sagittarius is a compatible sign for Aries and this is a great placement for Venus. At some point this month you may plan a trip. On November 12, Mars leaves your fifth house to enter your house of health and work. It will remain here until July of 2012, retrograding in January 2012. Use the rest of the year to accomplish what your want in these areas, because it will become harder to do so when Mars retrogrades. The November full moon on November 10, falls in your second house of money and it is in this area you will be focused at this time.

Taurus- Jupiter, the planet of gain and expansion entered your first house in June 2011. If you were born between April 21-May 1, Jupiter has conjuncted your Sun this year. If you were born after May 1, Jupiter will conjunct your Sun mid-March on in 2011. Jupiter-Sun transits only occur every 12 years, so be prepared to take advantage of this lucky transit. Jupiter-Sun transits represent a time when life can become easier, and you may feel a certain amount of luck at hand. Opportunities come your way during this time. At the very least, it is a form of personal protection if you are experiencing otherwise harder and more difficult transits. All Taureans will experience this Jupiter-Sun transit again whether you have already experienced it or not, as Jupiter retrogrades back to the 0 degree mark.

During October Jupiter is between 5-8 degrees affecting those born April 28-25, November Jupiter is conjunct the Sun of those born April 24-21, and those lucky Taureans born April 20-23 will have Jupiter conjunct their Sun late November through January 2012. Jupiter goes direct on Christmas Day, increasing it’s power and ability to bring opportunity your way, and from here it will move though the sign of Taurus hitting everyone born under the sign of the Bull at some point.

Venus in Scorpio enters your seventh house of partnerships from mid-October on. By month’s end both the Sun and Mercury are moving through your house of partnerships and relationships placing a great deal of focus on those individuals closest to us. Partners are considered both personal and professional.

Mars, the planet of action transits your fourth house through November 11. The fourth house relates to the home and personal foundation. Sometimes the fourth house can be considered the ‘end of the matter.’ You could be working on your home, either literally, or figuratively. On November 12, Mars, the planet of action enters Virgo your fifth house of children, social activity, and love affairs! Mars is going to be in this placement for a very long time! Mars usually spends about 40-50 days in each sign, but Mars in Virgo will move slowly and retrograde on January 24, 2012. At that time it will retrace it’s steps back through Virgo until it goes direct mid-April. It will remain in Virgo until July 2012! Your vitality may be low and you could experience a breakdown in your health if other things point in that direction. (this does not mean everyone will have bad heath!) You may have a few false starts with situations or people as Mars retrogrades in late January 2012. When Mars retrogrades energy becomes more subtle and sometimes projects slow down. Mars retrogrades about every two years. The last time the planet of action retrograded it was in Leo, December of 2009. Libra-If you are a Libra born September 24-October 16, you probably feel you have been battered by the planets. Libra is being squared by Pluto, opposed by Uranus and conjuncted by Saturn. All of this makes for situations involving major life changes, some of them not easy. If you were born September 24-29, Pluto-the planet of changes beyond your control is moving on.  Mars, the action planet is transiting your eleventh house of friends, hopes and wishes as well as corporations on November 11. During this time you will focus on group matters and can make headway. Wherever Mars travels, we are generally focused and driven. The Eleventh house rules corporations and groups, friends, hopes and wishes. Uranus can be a selfish planet and many times people make breaks from things and situations they consider oppressive. Or other people can break away from you during this time. Uranus seeks to free us from situations that have become stale and non-productive. Often this is experienced as a time with no real stability. Stability is still there but you must be willing to go with the flow during this time. If you were born January 11-17, Saturn is squaring your Sun October-November. The only downfall to Jupiter is that it expands whatever it touches and that can include your waistline! All Pisces will have Jupiter sextiling their Sun at some point between now and next June. If you were born during the second half of Pisces the transit will occur in the spring of 2012.

There are many things to consider when doing a compatibility reading between two people. Relationships are as multi-layered as are the people involved in them.  One of the greatest factors to consider in a reading is the connection between the planets that relate to our love life and the other individual in question.  A primary planet (or luminary) is the moon. The moon, as well as its placement and sign shows our true emotional nature, what we are secure with on a deep psychological level, and this is the most important planet in synastry.

An individual may be a Cancer Sun sign, but if he or she has an Aquarius moon, this individual is an emotional Aquarius, and so on. So, while a Cancer male, for example may be a Water Sign, he seeks someone with whom he can relate on an emotional level, and will fit best with someone whose moon is compatible with his. That would be an individual with a moon in Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, or Aquarius.

The moon shows what we are comfortable with, and what it takes to fulfill our emotional needs. It is more difficult to be with someone who cannot fulfill or relate to our true emotional needs. An alternate placement that would create compatibility between two individuals would be a Sun-Moon connection. For example the same Cancer male, mentioned above might be compatible with an Aquarius, as the two would have a Sun-Moon connection.  The Sun-Moon connection can be strong as well, as the emotional nature of the moon, would relate to the Sun or the soul vibration of the other individual.

Ideally, both of these combinations would occur in some form, and these are the relationships we tend to think of as soul mates. Generally relationships that do not have a moon connection tend to not work well. Sometimes couples who are in long term relationships do not have compatible moons, but there are always other factors to consider that would create compatibility.  Compatibility in intimate relationships is a complex consideration in astrology, and there are many factors to consider.
