Simply stated this is an ancient practice which focuses on balancing the flow of Chi or life energy throughout the body's meridiens, also known as our invisible energy channels. Our energy is psychologically, emotionally, spiritually and physically based. The purpose of chakra balancing is to unlock trapped energy which has manifested as discomfort or pain.
Imagine the magnetic energy of our planet and the directions North, East, South and West. Our energy is also directional, we too have a magnetic north and an axis which establishes our center of balance. Chakra balancing draws negative static from throughout the body, centers it in our axis, draws it upward to our northern most point known as Sahasrara, Nirvana or Crown Chakra. It is then released and dissipated into the atmosphere. All of this is accomplished through light touch of the practitioners or technicians hands, while you remain in a restful position.
The seven primary chakras spiral upward along the nerve trunk, from the Root Chakra, which is located at the pelvic area. Each Chakra governs areas of the body and also resonates to a specific color. These are discussed in the following paragraphs, along with Common and Sanskrit names.
The first is the Root Chakra, Muladhara or Support. This chakra resonates to the color red, governs physical needs and basic human survival issues. Muladhara also governs our energy center, pelvic area, bones, teeth and blood. Imbalances are indicative of lethargy and lifelessness. The heat, flow, energy and power of earths magma is a good meditative focus for Muladhara or Support.
The second is the Spleen or Sacral Chakra, Svahdhisthana, or Sweetness. This Chakra resonates to the color orange, governs emotional need and our souls, creativity, potential and enthusiasm. Svahdhisthana also governs lower intestines, kidney, spleen and the reproductive system. Imbalances are indicative of emotional repression and imbalance. The soothing glow of the setting sun is a good meditative focus for Svahdhishthana or Sweetness.
The third is the Solar Plexus, Manipura, or City of Jewels. This Chakra resonates to the color yellow, stimulates our personal power and clarity of mind and increases our awareness. Manipura also governs primary digestive, liver, stomach, pancreas and the nervous system. Imbalances are indicative of digestive disorders, lack of focus, inability to concentrate and low self esteem. The golden glow of dawns rising sun is a good meditative focus for Manipura or The City of Jewels.
The fourth is the Heart, Anahattha, or Unstuck. This Chakra resonates to the color green, governs compassion and heart felt issues, balances our physical world with our spiritual world, inspires unconditional love. Anahattha also governs the heart, lungs, bronchia, immune system, arms hands and thymus glands. Imbalances are indicative of jealousy and envy. The ever growing, self replenishing Redwood Forest of California is a good meditative focus for Anahattha or Unstuck.
The fifth is the Throat, Visshuda, or Purity. This Chakra resonates to the color true blue, governs communication, self expression, godly conciousness, universal inspiration and understanding. Visshuda also governs the throat, voice, mouth, jaw, neck, shoulders and thyroid. Imbalances are indicative of obsessive compulsive disorders, mood swings and PMS. The oceans low tide and tide pools are a good meditative focus for Visshuda or Purity.
The sixth is the Brow Chakra, Anja, or to Know and Perceive (the minds eye.) This Chakra resonates to the color indigo, governs intuition and psychic ability. Anja also governs the pineal gland, eyes, nose, sinus and tongue. Imbalances are indicative of sleep disorders. The night sky is the best meditative focus for Anja, to Know or Perceive.
The seventh is the Crown or Nirvana Chakra, Sahasrara, or Thousand Fold (thousand petal lotus.) This Chakra resonates to the color violet, governs enlightenment, self realization, knowledge, and infinity. This Chakra also governs the pituitary, indocrine glands, cerebrum, the central nervous system and lymphatics. Imbalances are indicative of fanatical behavior, faithlessness and intolerance.
