Today is the first day of the Chinese New Year, The Year of the Dragon. It foretells a year of Prosperity and in order to tap into that prosperity, it's important how you start the year.

One rule is to eat something substantial. It's NOT a day for a salad. Eat hearty, celebrate, enjoy the beginning of moving energy (it's a water year and water moves), and put out to the Universe your wishes for this year.

Since it's a New Moon, it's a brand new beginning.

More than a NEW MOON Tonight -- An ECLIPSE too!

There's a New Moon tonight at 10:10 PM PST at 2 degrees Sagittarius. It's more powerful than a usual New Moon because it's actually a Solar Eclipse. The energy from an eclipse lasts until the next one, which is usually 6 months. May 2012 will be the next Solar Eclipse.

All eclipses are part of a Saros Cycle that lasts nearly 1300 years. The eclipse tonight is Eclipse #123 in the Saros Series which began in 1074 and will end in 2318. There are 70 eclipses in this series and they repeat every 18 years and 11 days.

Our last eclipse in this series was on November 13, 1993. If you recall what was happening in your life back then, then you will know what to expect from tonight's eclipse. That same energy from that eclipse will surround you tonight, so what happened in Fall of 1993 on through Spring of 1994, will either continue or repeat in some manner.

Since tonight's eclipse is in Sagittarius, the Sagittarius energy will manifest. Do you know any Sagittarians, or maybe you're one yourself? The basic traits that describe a Sagittarius are: optimistic, enthusiastic, straight-forward, learned, scholarly, philosophical, freedom-loving, risk taking, athletic, sports-minded and someone who sees Life's "Big Picture."

Mercury Retrograde on THANKSGIVING!

     This year Thanksgiving isn't just about the turkey -- it's also about the 3rd and final Mercury Retrograde of 2011. If you live on the West Coast, Mercury Rx is 11:19 tonight and if you live on the East Coast, it's 2:19 AM on Thanksgiving morning.

     Mercury stations at 20 degrees Sagittarius and then turns retrograde. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, it's in its detriment. A planet is in its detriment when it's in the sign opposite the sign it rules. In this case, Mercury rules Gemini and Sagittarius is the opposite sign (180 degrees apart).

   When a planet is in its detriment, it doesn't feel at home. Here, Mercury doesn't feel at home in Sagittarius because the energy is completely different from Gemini. Gemini is a Collector of information and facts and likes to keep things light and entertaining. Sagittarius is a Philosopher who sees the "Big Picture," not the little pieces that make it up. Therefore, when Mercury is in Sagittarius, the planet is challenged.

   Add this backwards retrograde energy to Mercury in Sagittarius and the challenge is doubled!

   Mercury will be retrograde until Dec. 13-14 (depending on the time zone where you live). During this 3 week retrograde period, be sure to carefully weigh and craft exactly what you mean before you say it. Blurting out something is apt to backfire! Think - wait - consider - speak.

     This Mercury retrograde covers 17 degrees -- from 20 degrees of Sagittarius back to 3 degrees. If you're a Sagittarius by sign with your Sun between 3 and 20 degrees, Mercury Retrograde will conjunct your Sun. Just imagine how many times you'll be saying, "What?" during these 3 weeks. Don't worry -- it's normal to be discombobulated during this kind of Sun/Mercury aspect.

   The main things Mercury rules are: communication, transportation, marketing, sales, neighborhood and siblings. As long as you slow down, think, process and speak very clearly during this Mercury Retrograde period, you will be aok.

   Things to expect while Mercury is retrograde include: delays, repeats, rescheduling. People may come back into your life; someone calls out of the blue; things that haven't been finished and closed, may resurface. Think of it this way: it can be a 2nd chance to get it right!

     It's also a good idea to avoid scheduling new appointments, tests etc. during Mercury Rx since the energy is so jumbled. Mix-ups often occur. When you have a choice, opt for a direct Mercury.

     My Prediction: Since Mercury retrograde causes us to repeat something, I predict we will all have second helpings of our Thanksgiving Feasts!

Uranus Turned Retrograde Yesterday!

Uranus Retrograde (July 9 - Dec 9, 2011) Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius, turned retrograde yesterday. It will be retrograde for 5 months until December 9th. Whenever Uranus is retrograde, its energy operates on a more internal, personal level. Uranus rules independence and genius. Minutes before 9PM tonight (PDT), Saturn, the Planet of reality, form and structure, turns DIRECT! It’s been nearly 6 months since Saturn moved in forward motion. Ever since late January, Saturn has been retrograde. Saturn retrograded a full 7 degrees: from 17 degrees Libra back to 10 degrees Libra, where it now is. These 7 degrees are very important because direct Saturn will pass over these degrees once again – only this time the energy will be positive and direct! Libra is the sign of RELATIONSHIPS. While Saturn was retrograde, relationships were in slow motion without forward momentum. There was cause for review and even doubts about the relationship itself. With Saturn moving Direct, the energy shifts and it’s full speed ahead! The critical degrees of 10-17 Libra will get a second chance to fix and firm up the bonding. Bye-Bye, Tiger! and Hello Rabbit!!! We’re ending The Year of the Tiger tonight and most of us say, “Good riddins.” It has been a hard year with many struggles. Breathe a sigh of relief because it will be 12 years before the tiger returns.

The Year of the Rabbit begins tonight on the New Moon. Let’s all hop to that! The Year of the Rabbit is said to be a lucky one. (Rabbits must be lucky if we think back to childhood days when the dyed rabbit's foot was supposed to be a good luck charm.)

In Chinese Astrology, there are twelve animal signs: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit or Cat, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep or Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig or Boar. These represent the animals that came to Buddha.

Besides the animals signs in Chinese Astrology, there is also an element for the year. There are five elements: Fire, Wood, Earth, Water and Metal. This year it’s metal; thus, making this The Year of the Metal Rabbit. 1951 was the last time we had a metal rabbit year.

Do you know what happened in 1951?

Alice in Wonderland was released with white rabbit constantly looking at his metal pocket watch! Let’s heed his clue and not be late for an important date this year!

We are on the brink of a new year ushered in by a cute, little rabbit. The thought alone should make all of us smile:-)))

SATURN is Retrograde

If you're feeling a tad depressed and out-of-sorts, you might want to blame it on Saturn. Yesterday Saturn went retrograde and started a four and a half month backtrack to issues we thought were finished.

This Saturn Rx will last until mid-June, so prepare for a lot more work in your relationship arena of life. All relationships, business and personal, will be under scrutiny until they work like clockwork.

Saturn always forces us to focus on reality. Put your feet firmly on the ground and look straight ahead as you head towards fixing and re-aligning your relationships. Think of it as an opportunity to get it right so it lasts for the next 29 years. A Saturn cycle is about 29 years so once you've done the work, you're setting yourself up for lasting rewards.

Since Saturn is in Libra, the sign of partnerships and relationships, the emphasis is on our relationships that need fixing. Issues, as well as people, that are not working in our lives, must be addressed. Certainly they will re-surface between now and June.

Saturn teaches lessons. If you did not learn the lesson previously from a relationship, Saturn will dredge it up and force you to learn it now. Until you learn, you will be confronted with the same problem. Resolve yourself to deal with it once and for all.

It's a difficult time for some relationships because Saturn is very somber and gives an accurate look at exactly what the relationhip is. The ones that are solid and secure will not be affected. Only those that are outmoded or useless will fall by the wayside.

While Saturn is Rx, do some streamlining , goal setting and organizing in your business relationships, as well as. your personal ones. Then, in June, when Saturn turns Driect, your work will reap abundant rewards.

Jupiter Enters Aries -- It's All About YOU!

Saturday, the 22nd, Jupiter kisses Pisces good-bye for the next 12 years and makes its grande entrance into Aries, the sign of Self. During the next four and a half months while Jupiter is in Aries, there will be many opportunities to expand our Self as we journey towards wisdom and towards our quest for self-fulfillment. What an exciting time the next few months will be!

We already had a taste of this energy last summer when Jupiter left Pisces in June and bolted into Aries. Jupiter wasn't ready to live in go-getter Aries then, so it retrograded in September back to peaceful Pisces. If you recall last summer and mull over what personal journeys you wanted to take but didn't complete, you will get another chance to begin your adventure starting tomorrow.

This time, be sure you accept the abundant positive energy that Jupiter is now giving you . While Jupiter was in Pisces, it was all about the dream. FULL MOON Today -- What Does It MEAN?

Today’s Full Moon is at 29 degrees Cancer. The 29^th degree is called the anoretic degree because it’s considered to be completion. It’s the last degree of the sign, the graduation degree. What have we learned in Caancer and where are we headed?

We begin with Cancer:

Cancer is the sign of home. More than anything else, Cancer craves security. They are water signs and therefore sensitive. They feel things strongly and have great intuition.

Now that we have an idea of the no-nonsense Cancer, our next step is learning what a Full Moon signifies:

A Full Moon is always some sort of awareness or enlightenment. Think of how lit up the sky is when the Full Moon is visible. From that celestial light, flows answers and solutions that we seek on this earthly plane.

It is a good practice to put out a question to The Universe on a New Moon and then be receptive to receive the answer on the Full Moon. Remember: You must be tuned- in and receptive to recognize the lunar response.

When we combine Cancer's energy with the Full Moon’s enlightenment, we should be able to receive answers regarding our home life and our security base; as well as, the direction we are going in our quest for attaining success in these areas. For example, this Cancer Full Moon may inspire us with the BEST way to achieve our personal security.

The final component in this Cancer/Full Moon exercise involves the planetary aspect that this Full Moon makes:

This one is a good one! The CancerFull Moon exactly trines Jupiter, the planet of Good Fortune, Expansion and Abundance. A trine is a favorable aspect that lends ease to both planets. The anoretic degree of 29 for both planets signals that “The Fat Lady is singing.” The old expression, “It’s not over till the Fat Lady sings,” is echoed on this Full Moon.

The answer our Universe is singing is a joyful tune. It’s telling us we are prepared to take the risk, to expand our belief, and to enjoy our journey. Cancer is focused on creating a nest, a happy homelife, and a strong security base, and Jupiter is expanding our path to make it easier for us to "go for it.” We are now graduating from preparation as we have accomplished our task. Jupiter’s great inspiration will lead us to self actualization and awareness for our next quest or cycle.

When Jupiter leaves this last degree of Pisces on the 22^nd, we will begin a one-year journey devoted to all things revolving around our SELF. Yes, Jupiter will move into Aries on Saturday. Aries is the sign of The Self. It has not been in this sign for about 12 years. What fun it will be to have our good luck planet guiding us as we explore and master our Self!

Mercury Retrograde NOW!!!

Mercury just went Retrograde in Virgo, the sign it rules. That means that anything having to do with organization and health/diet should be double checked and carefully analyzed. Also expect that projects from the past, especially in these areas, may come back for revision or amendment. What you thought you finished, may boomerang back from now through September 12^th (when Mercury moves Direct).

Besides Virgo, Mercury also rules playful, communicative Gemini. Geminis will have to be especially careful as well during this 3 week period. Put the brakes on, dear Gems, when it comes to communications and transportation issues.

Mercury goes retrograde about 4 times a year for about a 3 week period, and this is the 3^rd one this year. We have one more in December. Christmas will occur during Mercury Rx. Mercury also rules sales and salespeople.

We can all benefit during thisretrograde time, by proceeding with caution in all matters related to Mercury. Be sure you want to purchase something before you buy it as the likelihood of dissatisfaction is greater during Mercury Rx.

Mercury Rx can be very good for revisiting a project you put on the back burner. Pull it out and revise it. PREPARATION is key now. Get things ready to send out on the Mercury Direct. This also applies to Manuscripts and Query Letters. Always try to bring something into the World on a Direct Mercury and to prepare something for the world when Mercury is retrograde.

If you align yourself with the Mercury Rx energy of preparation and revision, you will be fine as long as you use caution in driving and communicating.

The #8 Omen -- New MoonTonight

The magic number tonight is EIGHT, the Scorpio number, the number of Power. August is our 8^th month. Our New Moon tonight at 8:08 Pacific Time will be at 17 degrees (1+7=8) of Leo. That’s a powerful omen for the month ahead!

Leo is the sign of Love and Creativity. This is the month to delve into your creativity and begin a labor of love that will manifest by the month’s end (by the next new moon on September 8^th).

There are some hard aspects to this New Moon. Jupiter and Uranus and Saturn and Venus are in sesquiquadrant (135 degrees) to the New Moon. This calls for a huge shift in focus. These 4 planets form a T-Square to Pluto, the Powerful One. Lots of stress is placed on personal power with these four planets coming down hard. Still, Pluto can withstand it, and with the energy of this New Moon, power will surface when channeled through love and creativity.

Are Chelsea Clinton & Marc Mezvinsky Soulmates?

Chelsea is a Pisces (born Feb. 27, 1980) and Marc is a Sagittarius (born Dec. 15, 1977).

This morning Mars, the planet of action, turned Direct! It has been retrograde since December 20th.

We started 2010 without much oomph and energy, especially in the love sector of our lives. Now, that Mars energy has shifted forward, we are ready to take action.

When Mars stationed back in December, it was just about two-thirds through the sign of Leo. Leo is the sign of Love, Romance, Creativity and Children. During its retrograde, Mars went all the way back to zero degrees of Leo -- way back to the beginning! Now that Mars is moving direct, it gives us a second chance to pour positive energy into our love life and our creativity. This time love will bloom!

Sometime today or this evening, do a meditation. Send out your intentions and goals for your love life. Be as specific as you can, and ask The Universe to hear your wishes so it will manifest what you seek: If you want a date with a certain person, state it. If you want a sparkling engagement ring, ask for it. If you want to change your marriage partner, ask for wisdom and perfect timing.

The time is perfect for going after what you want. Muster up your energy and go for it! Mars will give you an extra jolt to start. Let the show begin!

Venus conjuncts Jupiter on Mardi Gras

Today is Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), the day of over-the-top partying! The astrological transit for tonight indicates that there will be Fun to the Nth Degree!!!

Venus, the planet of love and desire will exactly conjunct Jupiter, the planet of expansion, celebration, excess and abundance. When these two planets meet, the impact is best described in that old Mae West saying, "Too much of a good thing is Wonderful!"

We can't all participate down in New Orleans or Key West, but we all can do something that entertains and brings joy to our evening. Even a funny, outrageous movie can spark that unique Mardi Gras frolicy feeling. Let laughter swell out hearts with joy!
