Sorry about yesterday but I really was feeling much worse than I thought I was.

When you are trying your best not to cause yourself more harm, you just can’t get out of your own way. I am trying to not touch the incision. So far I have jammed my eyeglasses in my eye, whacked myself in the eyebrow several times and even poked myself in the eye with my finger. None of this do I do on a daily basis, but today, I am doing it hourly! OUCH!

Napoleon’s fever is down and his eye is no longer running. He even played last night so my baby is on the mend. By tomorrow he should back to normal. Right now he is my lap. All the other cats got their Advantage yesterday, but I held off on Napoleon because of the sneezing. Tomorrow he gets his! I have concluded I am not a cat owner, I am a cat slave.

One thing I have often found amazing is the blame curve when people finally accept there is more to life than just what you see. One day they didn’t even believe in metaphysics and a month later if they get a hangnail it has a metaphysical cause and usually that is a CURSE!

I tend to think of it as extreme laziness. It is easier to blame and curse and someone else than take matters into your hands, find the reason and DO SOMETHING!

Now some of you know I began my career in high education studying to be a theoretical mathematician. Yes, I can even do calculus. Then I moved to biology and botany and before moving into psychology can getting my degrees. It wasn’t for lack of ability because even with those ‘hard’ courses, I graduated with honors and my psychology degree is in experimental psychology. So no matter how much lamentation around me, I first look for the logical, rational explanation.

Take last weekend. I came home in total agony as I have from every event I have done outside the shop. True, at the moment it made no sense. I am doing nothing I do not do all day at home and the shop: read cards. Most people would be trying to ferret out who was cursing them but I’m looking for the logical explanation and after a couple of days of cogitating on it, at 3 AM I sat up in bed with the AHA moment.

Imagine you sit for five hours with your legs straight out in front of you playing solitaire with real cards. At the end, I bet no matter what your age, you would be stiff and hurting. That is what happens to me in reverse. I normally sit in a modified Lotus position or with my legs straight out on the bed, laptop in my lap. I go to an event and I have to sit with my legs dangling down, pulling every muscle in my body from my toes to the top of my head by moving my arms and hands to lay out the cards and shuffle them. Now, I can fix the problem. I get cushions and modify what I doing and work on sitting for short times in a chair with my legs down….sort of training for the event. Who knew reading cards was so strenuous? It looks easy…..as do so many things.

The Microwits have been having Advantage since they were bitty wits, so they are totally used to it. They are happy to be rid of the few fleas they had. However, George quickly learned the Catwits are much more challenging. I don’t think he liked chasing cats. Me, I lure them out with food and then I pounce. Hey, they pounce me all the time. I have the scratched ankles to prove it.

This is my first experience with surgical glue. Wow, look mom, no stitches. I just have at least one fine line where the tissue is put together. Actually I can see three, but most of the area is covered with some new type of tape or bandage. George went hysterical last night when he found me taking a shower, but I had no intention of getting my eyebrow wet. I called the doctor today , just to check, and I can even wash my hair. I just have to blot the area dry. Wow, you have no idea how much of change that is from the olden days when I was young and dinosaurs roamed the earth. I know I said I would kill for some hair color, but I really didn’t mean getting my hair colored with Betadine. On the plus side, it is red.

I am trying to learn to sleep on my back. I have to have my legs elevated so my back remains straight on the back wedge I need for my asthma. I have a leg pillow but my legs, unlike the rest of the universe, are perfectly balanced. The upper and lower part is equal in length and the leg is equal to my body including my head. Yes, it makes for a really pretty leg and a nicely balanced body but it also means no chair or cushion ever fits you comfortably. Now, add a 27 inch inseam and you feet don’t reach the floor most of the time and nothing really fits right. So, I am improvising and as a result, I can just now move my left shoulder and turn my head. I can’t sleep on the right side because that is where the original cancer operation is healing and now the left side has an eyebrow wound healing. My back is my only option and that is why I was on Facebook so late last night. I was going for totally miserable.

Now that I have no real TV, I swear the DVD’s are multiplying. I have to find a holder of some kind for them. I know there are rentals, but I do so like to rewatch Fringe to see what I missed the first time around and a whole bunch of others. When you live with chronic pain, a good DVD library can be a sanity saver. You also need a sound machine because for me, nothing is as relaxing as the rain. It used to be the crickets chirping until Purdy von Sweets tried to kill the machine. She was getting them out of it one way or the other.

The new J.D. Robb book: Kindred in Death is sitting beside me so you know I can’t wait to dig into it!

Sorry folks, but no forecast today.

The operation was more extensive than the doctor expected and less than I expected. How’s that for a happy medium. I am put together with surgical glue: super glue but more expensive. Absolutely no lifting a allowed and thus I cannot get the Magic box down with all the cards in it. The pain is kicking in as the anesthesia wears off and drugs are on the way. Either way, I am not reading so well. I should be more myself tomorrow. Meanwhile, I have the sore throat from Hades because of the tube down my throat. They always want to make certain we asthmatics continue to breath. There will be no bending, lifting or exercising until I see the doctor on the 11^th and he clears me for activity. I will get the box brought down to bed level tomorrow so I can do the forecast.

If you are still wondering why on earth MJ was using that drug in the first place, I just had it. You go under clean, stay that way with no dreams and you come out clear with no fuzzy brain or hangover unlike all the sleep drugs on the market. I can see why but I sure wouldn’t use it for sleep as you have to have an anesthesiologist watching you at all times and as I said, I had a tube down my throat to make certain my tongue did not slip back and choke me to death and a heart monitor running. I was in a full operating room and that is the only way I would let someone insert that stuff into my veins.

I have Purdy von Sweets taking care of me tonight. I am guessing Napoleon will take over after my shower. One weird thing about Napoleon, he does not like fish. He doesn’t even like my fresh cooked fish. I’ve never had a cat that doesn’t like fish. His brother and sisters love fish. Weird.

Mr. B is now the Mr. Micro Bead cat. He has chosen my micro bead round pillow to sleep on all night. He does like to be comfy. I know the laptop used to have it but the one item I wanted before surgery was a bed tray for the computer. Little did I know the actually make a little lap desk with legs of your laptop. It even has a built in light and mouse bad. I am really liking this! It also keeps the cats off it! It doesn’t keep the cats from under it.

Well, good night and I will see you all tomorrow. Oh…I have no voice. George is celebrating.

It always amazes me when I do an event how many people voice one single thought: Someone died and we have unfinished business. A dear customer came up and said that and spirits immediately said, “No you don’t. If you did, they would still be here.” Now, in an orderly universe that makes sense but I didn’t have time until way later to but out an inquiry into the spirit realm what exactly they meant by that if so many people are sure of the opposite.

So, here is the more detailed explanation I received. “You return to the realm to work things out. About that your intuition is 100% correct, but you simply don’t know when to quit and we do. Everyone has choices. When one person makes choices that leads them so far off the path to “finishing business”, we often have to recall them. We often recall people who are about to really jump off the path and negatively impact a large number of people they don’t even know yet. You have to remember, to us there is no linear time. All things exist at the same time. Extreme deviations would throw the entire universe out of kilter if enough occurred simultaneously. So, put in language you will understand. You are out of sync with your server and must reboot your game. You reenter at another point on another server and resume the game.”

Okay, I am computer impaired and you know I just press things until something either works or I get the blue screen of death and turn it off and start over. However, to my limited brain, here is how I see it. All your lives, past, present and future exist at the same time, like a bunch of movies running in different theaters but at the same time with the same actors. So, the moment of now exists across multiple existences and times. When one of these moments gets so far out of sync with the others, it is terminated and you are placed into another body, in another time existing in another place in the NOW. Imagine them like a bunch of marbles, in a straight line rolling forward. One marble jumps up and is grabbed and placed at the end of the line of the other marbles. That’s what I see happening. In the end, all the marbles are really just reflections of the one marble. Somewhere the whole exists and it is that whole that guides the entire line of marbles that are interacting with lots of other lines of marbles, hopefully all of them moving each other forward toward being the complete being. All the ingredients for the cake exist on the counter in various states of combinations at the same time as the finished cake. I think I just sprained my brain.

So, what you didn’t finish here, you will finish elsewhere so stop worrying about it. Let this old Druid take a nap.

I had hoped to get more done today but I awoke stopped up and nauseous. It is allergies since I have no fever. Napoleon is sneezing and he does have a fever. If he isn’t better by tomorrow morning, he is going to the vet. I can’t have him sick while I am recovering. He was feeling so bad he wanted to lay in the living room window..there is a picture going up on face book…in the sun light. So, he delegated my care to his trustworthy sister, Josephina. Oh, little did he know. It wasn’t five minutes before she outsourced my care to Fiona, black kitten in training.
Now Fiona took my care very seriously. She stuck to me like Velcro, Velcro with tiny sharp claws. She purred until I thought she would burst and she did not abandon me until Napoleon took his place beside me once again. While Napoleon was out in the window I managed to finally get a yogurt but remembered how much he loves to lick the container. So I put a teaspoon on a lid and took it to him. I have never been looked at with such love and appreciation. He ate the whole thing.
Then the surgical center ruined my day by calling and telling me my surgery was moved to the main hospital by the anesthesiologist and to arrive at 11:30 for a 1:30 operation. So, I worried myself sick as to whether something was wrong with me or not. I am a water hog and they won’t let me drink anything. I just need a sip! I am going to be miserable. They may give me anesthesia to shut the whining up!
We did go to Target tonight to get wound supplies. Since I know the drill, I know what I will need. That wore me out, but, please do not tell my doctor, we got a bottle of organic real maple syrup and some pumpkin pancake mix. I am going to be evil. Heck, I might not live, I deserve a good last meal. Even prisoners get a good last meal. Don’t you think I deserve it?
I had two cats in the bedroom window after the Gecko tonight. I wish I had the ability to do videos. All you could see were two cat asses with the tails hanging down, twitching in unison like furry windshield wipers.

Have you ever been in bed and you just get comfortable? The light is just perfect for dozing. The fan is gently blowing on you. You have just the right amount of cover over your body. You are on the borderline of slipping into a lovely sleep and suddenly: ITCH! It is in a place you can’t reach unless you get up. That was my morning. Then about twenty minutes later I managed to one again achieve that illusive state and the door popped open and George yelled: Coffee’s On! Oh shades of Hades, I got up.

I drove all the way across town to the doctors for my pre surgery check up and blood tests. I learned a few things. If you think something is slightly wonky with a dermatologist, get a second opinion fast. They will do to you what they did to me. I am not the only one. Biopsies don’t get sent out and they pocket the money and gamble you can be treated with the cream for Squamish cell cancers while a lovely Basal Cell in growing under your skin to mammoth proportions. They will tell you that you have a patch of dry skin when you really have a Squamish cell cancer that is growing. Folks, the insurance companies and HMO’s don’t pay them enough and they cut corners and that corner can be your life! A lot of them are into Botox and other cosmetic procedures and just don’t want to bother with cancer patients. Get that second opinion!

As for me, I will be in surgery this week hoping that the cancer has not spread into my eye socket or bone under my eyebrow. I will lose half my eyebrow. I was the corner that got cut two years ago. I was the biopsy that wasn’t sent out. I got the cream for the wrong kind of cancer. Now I am permanently scarred and disfigured. Don’t let it happen to you.

Pictures from the Witches’ Ball are up on Facebook under Tarotlady. The cats slept through Halloween as we observed via webcam at the Witches’ Ball.
The glamorous life of a professional psychic just never ends. I overslept until noon and had to rush everything to get out by 4:30 to get the location. I couldn’t find my cards and had to use a deck I seldom read with making readings go much slower than normal. George threw stuff in the cooler to make sandwiches with so we could have dinner there. We finished up at midnight and I nixed buying something to eat because I was stiffening up. By the time I got home, I had to slide out of the Vanwitch. By 5 AM, I was screaming in agony and had to take a pain pill. It took over an hour to knock me out I was in so much pain. I awoke at 5 PM and was still writhing and screeching. MI am just now getting to where I can type as my right should was the worst. I have to be up at 7 tomorrow to get to the doctor for my pre surgery check up and I hope I pass because I really want this over with. And that is the glamorous life a psychic lives. Now, do any of you really want my life? I should be back doing phone reading by tomorrow afternoon or maybe the day after. It all depends on whether I get any sleep tonight.

For the first time in almost two months, I was at the shop today trying to find the camera. The Bitwit ran over, jumped up on the table, put her little paws on my chest and kissed me right on the mouth just she has for her entire life. Cats do not forget you. We had a love in and then she had a can of food. I never did find the camera so I bought a cheap one at Target. As bright pink as it, it will be hard to lose…..I hope.

I saw on Facebook the Christian Coalition on radio has claimed that all candy this Halloween has been ‘enchanted’ by witches…Thus, I have personally volunteered at great risk to myself to personally dispose of all dark chocolate mounds, Mr. Goode Bars, Dark Chocolate Reeses and Godiva anything…just send it to me. Burp!

Tonight’s Forecast is being assisted by Conner with huge purrs. He is a feral rescue from Animal Control. He can thank his life to a case of mistaken identity and a Druid that is pretty darned good at mind control. They put feral cats down immediately. They were no match for me. He required welding gloves to remove from the cage. Conner is not a soft cat in any way. His fur is spiky and rough. He is huge and looks fat but it is all muscle. His purrs are so loud I can hear him down at my knees and I am almost deaf! He is just so happy to be alive, dry and well fed. Even adult feral cats can be rehabilitated.

Under the list of nasty things that happen in the night is sciatica. I think I levitated a foot straight up out of the bed. Then I twisted causing a cramp in the right foot and had to get it flat on the floor, all the time hopping out of the bedroom only to find myself surrounded by cats looking amused. It is so good to know I am keeping the local wildlife entertained.

So I sat in the kitchen with Rusty J. Hoover and went over the list of pain killers I could take to get back into bed. ZIP. Yup, with surgery scheduled next week I can’t have anything that thins your blood and that even includes the percodan because it has an aspirin type base.

The ugly result was I found myself digging through the fridge door for the bottle of wine. Wine aficionados, you might want to not read the rest of this. This bottle was so old, the label fell off when I took it out. It’s a pink color and I really hope it started out that way. The cat got the label and ran off. Anyway, I found a clean mini coffee mug. Yes, I don’t even know where the wine glass is. I only have one. I poured a cup of wine and started drinking. The stuff didn’t taste half bad and I got about half of it down before the lovely muscle relaxing hit. Alcohol doesn’t get me drunk, it just relaxes all my muscles and I fall under the table. I don’t even get a “buzz” whatever that is. I got back to bed and I could hear my big toe screaming, “There are ice cold needles sticking under my nail!” However from my ankle up the chorus was, “Shut up, we’re happy here.” So the last thing I remember is Napoleon purring me to sleep.

Today my candelabra arrived from spiritHalloween today. It is heavy, the little skulls have fangs, pewter color and you can use real candles in it if you want. I am very happy with it! You have to come to the CUUPS Witches’ Ball in Ft. Lauderdale and see it. I’ll be in the All Purpose Room doing Tarot Readings. Look for the…what else…witch. Yes, I have a great witches’ hat this year….

Mr. B and company managed to get a Palmetto Bug (huge cockroach) out of somewhere and were chasing it. It wedged itself under a storage box. All the cats were circling the box trying to figure out how to get it out when Purdy von Sweets jumped on top of the box. Squish! That one won’t be coming out. It’s batteries are now shot. Mommy will clean up later.

I am finally calming down after yesterday. No sleep last night and a fuzzy day results.

I did manage a load of laundry and it got so tangled in the machine, I could not get it out. I was pulling and twisting trying to get out. We have an old raccoon that comes up to the door. I think he lives in the yard somewhere and I give him an occasional old energy bar. I looked over and he has laid down on the walk way watching me. My surgery is scheduled and now the waiting begins. I am really on needles and pins. The cats are all around me. Napoleon and Purdy von Sweets alternated attaching themselves to me all afternoon. Then Boogaboo and Fiona came in to hang onto me. I don’t think the doctor has to worry about me not sticking to my diet. Everything is sticking about half way to my stomach so I don’t anticipate eating much. I did try to drink some of my cappuccino protein drink. Then I made the mistake of setting it down and discovered Napoleon likes it too and he can lap really fast. That was probably the caffeine kicking in. I lost half a cup of coffee to Purdy. It has not been a good day for coffee drinking here. At least, so far, they leave my FUZE alone, but who knows, that could change momentarily.

I realized I will be probably be laid up until January and by that time, having me all to themselves with nothing I really can do but pet and cater to them, I am going to have one house full of really, really spoiled cats and one turtle. When I do return to the shop, I think I had better do it in stages, because they are going to be UPSET.

I have determined that my most common response to a reply from tech support is: “What does that have to with my question?” What’s your’s?

Tomorrow morning we schedule my next surgery. Due to changes in the insurance for next year, it is better to do it this year which means our benefits have again been reduced but not price. In fact, even my prescriptions are going up as instead of one price, we now have three levels. Cute, huh? It is really cute when you consider how much out of pocket I am going to have pay. As to reconstructive surgery after this over, well, it is not happening. I wonder if England, Germany or Holland needs psychics and cats? And that folks is how it is in the real world instead of the fantasy one the Republicans in Congress live in.

I shall be out of action and probably work until next year. Hopefully, I will be alive. The first doctor that saw me not only lied about the kind of cancer I had but the severity of the cancer and of course, the little part where she pronounced me cured. I really hope she enjoyed the money she got for screwing me up. That’s what a preferred provider system encourages. Doctors get paid more for easier procedures, so it was easier and more profitable to lie and say I had two squamous cell carcinomas that lay on the surface of the skin and grows slowly then to actually send the biopsy she took out to a lab and find out I had basal cell carcinoma, which starts way below the skin before erupting up and is much faster growing and dangerous. It’s called diagnosis based on red head with fair skin in South Florida and you have about a 75% chance of being right. Unfortunately when the patient falls into the 25% group, you may well kill them. But, you will have made a nice profit off the office visit and the prescription you wrote. How are you liking health care in the USA with really good insurance now? Of course really good insurance isn’t good any more. We can not get paid for an ER visit unless it is life threatening. Just for reference, when George was broken out from head to toe in rash that could have been anything, and his throat could have started closing in the rash internalized, at 10 PM in evening, it was written up as a non-life threatening condition. I wonder if a broken arm or leg is life threatening? You certainly won’t die from it if you wait until you can get an appointment with your primary care physician. You may never use that arm or leg again, but you won’t die. Think about it. Before you say: that won’t happen, think about the condition of the woman writing this. Do you really think they care if you limp or have one arm for the rest of your life?

A couple of weeks ago, there was a couple on the TV that had barely escaped a bad traffic accident alive when they hit a light pole and bounced onto the railroad tracks a few moments before the train arrived. They managed to get out of the SUV, but it was totaled. The wife was pretty sure she had broken a rib in the accident and when the news anchor asked if she was going to the hospital her answer was, “No, we don’t have insurance.” I have friends that give me the same answer after they take a bad fall and lie there bruised and black blue until they can get up and back to work. We might be the richest nation in stupid consumer goods but when it comes to spiritual goods, we are bankrupt.

Even without the final facts being in on the James Ray case, there are a few things we should have learned. I have been preaching this for years and getting battered and bruised because of it. You can not just pick and choose what you want from a variety of traditions and expect things to turn out wonderful fluffy pink bunnies. The odds are you are going to get dead, black withered stems. That’s what James Ray did. He took the best of several methods of attaining a higher state of consciousness, combined them and got dead people. You don’t do breathing exercises in a sweat lodge. If 95 degrees is good, 140 degrees isn’t better. You don’t fast and then try three other forms of physical endurance. You don’t then heap guided meditation on top of it all and leave people in a semi hypnotic trance and expect them to have free will. And lastly, you make darned sure you know who your staff is and someone competent can take over if you are incapacitated.

On the other hand, how many times have I seen similar things done and fortunately the people survived. So, here are a few facts. If you have high or low blood pressure, a breathing problem like asthma or bronchitis, etc., a heart condition, varicose veins, severe acne, rosecea, or very fair skin you should never set foot in a sweat lodge. Just cross that activity off your to do list. There are plenty of other spiritual practices out there. It won’t be missed and while you are at it, stay out of saunas, too. If you have any of the above except acne and now including borderline epilepsy stay far away from breathing exercises that either slow your breathing down or increase its rate. Both of these techniques have the same effect. They decrease the amount of oxygen going to your brain which induces hallucinations and can cause brain damage and seizures. Folks, your autonomic nervous system is pretty darned good at picking the right rate of breathing for you unless you start hyperventilating because of emotional stress and even then, it is doing the right thing. It wants you unconscious so it can reset itself and the predator thinks you are dead, diseased and moves on. Yes, slow deep breathing will relax you, but you will seldom find a therapist who knows what they are doing exceeding 10 deep breaths or for the most part 5. Five is all I need to put you in a relaxed state for hypnosis. Why would you spend 10 or 30 minutes doing what 5 breaths can do? More is not better.

In every religion there is a birth, death and rebirth fable, parable or play which is acted out at least once a year. Before you scream you have fair warning; I did an English Lit paper on this. In these plays, someone gets to play god, sometimes you have the good god and the bad god and sometimes you even get a goddess. Someone gets play the sacrificial lamb, er… person. The theory is the old you must die to allow the new you to be born. It is a right of passage. Why is everyone so upset at this role playing in James Ray’s seminars when it is acted out constantly, in a variety of ways all over the globe? Now, I am no fan of role playing and once wrote a paper on how I did not think it was practical in psychotherapy. I’ll not tell you how many people I really upset. The prevailing thought is it is wonderful.

Motivating people is a wonderful thing if there is a practical plan behind it. If you motivate someone with no real skills and drop them in the middle of company, what exactly do you expect them to do? Drop them over at the University. This is why I got my degrees in psychology and worked in psychiatry for ten years. Telling someone the future may be nice but unless you offer them alternatives all you have is a scared person who may become so paralyzed they harm themselves. When doing readings you have to consider the effect of what you are telling someone. Just because I can see your future doesn’t mean you should. The future is mutable. It can be changed. Providing the tools to do that is more important than the information of its possible paths.

Providing the tools to change and improve is more important than a spiritual hallucination in this old Druid’s world view. I am in the minority in a ‘give it to me now’ world. I want to see effect, NOW! I don’t want to see myself planting seeds in a garden in my past life, I want the thrill of a nasty death. I want to be the king, not the peasant. I want the vision, not the information it provides. All of this has one thing in common: I. Until you move beyond the I and me into the Universal we, none of those experiences is going to worth a plug nickel and definitely not $10,000.00 or $1.00. In the end, life and spirituality are do it yourself projects and like most do it yourself projects, they require a lot of work. There will always be plenty of idiots ready to lead you and encourage you to lick the frozen flag pole. You have to make the informed decision whether to follow or just walk out.

And you wondered why there was a line of stray cats at my front door. I think they are taking numbers, now.

Yesterday I said: never give your power to another person. I learned this lesson the hard way when I first started working as a psychic. I really didn’t want to handle my own bookings. I used to having an agent and was willing to give up my power to determine my career to someone else. Unfortunately, like most of us, I didn’t listen when the Universe gave me the first lesson.

In lesson one, several psychics I knew were trying to get me come to work at a restaurant doing readings. At the same time I kept dreaming of a restaurant all done in a black and white astrology theme. The dreams were so real I started to wonder if they were dreams. In them, I kept running into a security guard on the stairs and scaring him because he thought I was a ghost. We don’t have that many two story commercial buildings in Miami so I figured it was a dream. One thing I was certain of, something illegal was going on in there where ever it was. Well…finally I agreed to work one night when one of the ladies got sick. My poor psychic friend drove me over to an industrial area which made me nervous to start with. Then we parked across from a storefront with the windows all covered over with white paper. It was a two story building. This was not boding well. The security guard opened the door and almost passed out when he saw me and I grabbed her and ran back to the car. He must have thought he saw a ghost come back to life. There was no way I was going into that place. She was plenty mad at me but when she told her husband what happened he told her to come home right that minute. He had faith in my abilities over the rest of her kooky friends. That night, the restaurant was raided. Not only was it unlicensed but they were running numbers and gambling. Several of my friends were calling her to bail them out. They didn’t call me because they knew I had no money.

But I didn’t get the message so the Universe sent lesson number two.

I got the coveted invitation to work at the grand opening of a “psychic center”. The woman seemed legitimate as she came from a long line of famous psychics. In fact, she was the only person in her family besides her father who wasn’t a professional psychic or medium. I should have wondered why she was in this country rather than her own but I was really naïve. I felt totally safe as an ex cop was going to be there vetting the people getting the readings and he was a friend. I was given a lovely location in the dining room with an adjoining bath that connected to another room where a man was doing readings. Both rooms opened into the main living room now a lecture hall and my room also opened to the kitchen. Three doors, how could I go wrong? Clients were sent in through the kitchen so as not to disturb the lectures. The other psychic did hour readings so his clients arrived during the lecture breaks through a private door. All was fine at least for the morning. It was cool and quiet and I had lovely clients.

A little after lunch, her father escorted an grandmotherly looking woman into the room for a reading. Within a couple of minutes, she pulled a twelve inch (I do not kid) butcher knife out of her purse and began pounding on the table she was going to kill me and her daughter-in-law. Now you have to keep in mind I was a little thing..120 pounds and 5’5” and this woman was twice my width and built like a mack truck. She was also closer to the door and the table between us and her blocked the other door. We were equidistant from the bathroom and I had been told that door was locked. This went on for almost an half an hour with her getting more agitated by the moment and me seeing no way out of this room or to calm her down. One thing you know about a knife fight is you ARE going to get cut. The variable is how bad and all I had was a deck of Tarot Cards for a weapon. Trust me, they do not make a good weapon. I was transmitting like mad. My readings were 10 minutes long, they were supposed to come and tell me the time was up and this woman had been in the room for at least 30 minutes. Where was everyone?

Simultaneous, she decided to lunge for me, the psychic came screaming out of the back bedroom that it was haunted and the ghost was chasing him (They had locked him in the room and he hadn‘t had a client in an hour so he tested the door.) and the ex cop broke the dining room door down, tackled her and wrestled the knife away. It was then that the Queen of all Psychics strolled in, smiled sweetly at me and told me I was due on stage on and by the way, there were two reporters from the two major newspapers out there waiting to meet me since she had ‘talked” me up to them.

I was supposed to dissolve into a puddle of tears and nerves, but I was so mad, I smacked her out of the way and went out to go on stage. My dear friend was already on stage and getting all sorts of grief from the audience. Now, I knew the guy was one excellent palmist. There was no way he was making easy mistakes with the audience. He read palms 5 nights a week in various churches. He was a pro and he was losing it fast. Then another gal I just met, grabbed my arm and asked me what on earth she was supposed to do on stage, she was an artist. The whole things was a setup and I was livid. I took the stage from my friend and he was close to tears and spent the next 15 minutes entertaining the audience having already identified the shills she had placed in the audience and then interviewed the artist. My husband got a short note the next day that he was welcome to leave 50,000.00 worth of electronic equipment for them to use at the facility but I was not welcome on the premises. You know how fast he rushed over with his equipment. Within a month, she almost got two other psychics killed, one of them pregnant and on bed rest, by using people who were clearly crazy as setup clients for readings. Both these nuts actually threatened the psychics lives and their families until the last one met a nasty fate in an alley with a note that said: “You’re next.”

As background on what happened to me. The woman had been sitting on the porch, rocking back and forth, muttering to herself incoherently since early that morning. The ex cop had seen the knife in her purse and on several occasions begged the Queen to let him call the police and have them pick her up off the property. He would escort her off the property so there would be no problem. He refused to make any appointments with any psychic for her. He was threatened with being fired if he did it and never being allowed to work an event in the metaphysical community again. Just let her be and they would get rid of her when the event was over. When he finally took a bathroom break, she was grabbed by the Queen and given to her father to bring into the room with me. When the ex cop got back he thought that the woman had finally been thrown out or left during lunch. A few minutes later when he saw I had been “removed” from scheduling he asked one of the other workers where the woman was and what happened to me. He was told she was in the room with me. He tried to get into me and found the door to the lecture hall, which was empty at that point and just filling up was locked. He checked the other psychic’s door and found it locked. He went to the kitchen and discovered that door was also locked. Her father had the key around his neck on a string but refused to turn it over because his daughter said under no circumstances was that door to be unlocked. That was when he broke the door in.

That is why I am so careful about where I am placed to do readings and for the most part will not work an event unless I have some really trust worthy references for it. I also charge a premium because I have discovered most people are not willing to pay a lot of money to see me killed or injured. It works out well.

I only work through licensed agencies for parties after I booked myself, thirty years later, into what seemed like a really upscale Halloween party. When I arrived, I carefully parked so I could not be blocked in...old habits die hard. When the bartender arrived a minute later, he told me not to drink anything he didn’t deliver to me, don’t leave my beverage unattended, demand cash up front for any overtime or better yet, get out as soon as my hour was up and he would take me to my car. Seems, he was the only bartender who would work the event. They tried to get women bartenders but one had almost been raped at the previous party and only the company he worked for would touch them (there are a dozen or more party planners in Palm Beach County) and only if a man volunteered to do the party at triple the going rate. Two hours later, he came in told me to get my stuff together right then, he was getting me out of there. Nothing strange had happened, yet, and then he said, “they are taking lots on who is going to get you out there and the clothes are already coming off!”. I was packed and out the door with him so fast it would make your head spin and I could tell from the disappointed looks on the way to the door, he was right. The next day, she tried to get me to come over to her house to do a reading at twice my going rate. You know I ran right out the door. ;)

And that is how I learned to bring a second person with me who was preferably armed, get my money up front, preferably in cash and trust no one. The life of any independent contractor can be a dangerous one.

I caught Boogaboo trying to open the toaster oven looking for food. He tried to pull the checking the cleaning thing with the refrigerator, too. He is Napoleon’s understudy. He has learned the art of limp. The art of eye rolling has been mastered. I am a goner. I accidentally put ear medicine in Mr. B’s ears thinking he was another tabby. Poor baby, there is nothing wrong with his ears. Then I caught Fiona working her way over to the microwave where the salmon was cooking. They are little furry cockroaches climbing on everything trying to steal your food.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been thinking that I am losing my mind. I can’t seem to type. Weird words show up on the screen instead of the ones I type. I had autocorrect on and it has changed oven to over twice. Now that I am watching it, I am typing the right word and then it is corrected by Microsoft Works Word Processor. I have to turn this off. So, if you see a strange word in a sentence, the odds are, I didn’t put it there.

This James Ray thing no longer has anything to do with what happened. Let me explain. Most people in the, and I use this really loosely, ‘new age spiritual movements’ and I will stick pagan in there just to get everyone, do not believe in the death penalty because of the simple principle that even with evidence and a jury of 12 peers, an innocent man might be condemned to death. Amazingly, they are willing to convict James Ray of murder based on him charging 10,000.00 for a week long seminar.

Until the autopsy results are back and we get some reliable information that doesn’t come from tabloids where the greys are shaving the wolfman in a sweat lodge presided over by Elvis, the rush to judgment should take rest. However, unlike most of my peers, I did some research. You see, nothing just pops into existence regardless of what the creationists want you to believe.

There is no such thing as a peaceful warrior or so it is being said. Actually, the principle comes from the martial arts discipline of the Way of the Samurai in China and Bushido in Japan. For a better explanation of the death references read

The third part of his philosophical DNA comes from an evangelic preacher father and before anyone screams and throws mud, keep in mind that DNA is the conservative Republican movement, the Tea Party and the Christian Right.

One writer has noted while transcribing the brochure people were given upon arriving that there seemed to be some odd phrasing. Odd to her perhaps, but after 38 years of being involved in mediumship and spiritism, the phrasing is not odd to me. It is standard channeling fare. Now here is where all of us in the movement need to get off our high horses and pay attention and try to forget the 10,000.00. This is not a man who believed or practiced channeling. This is man of few words. His writings are not verbose. However, the literature people received upon arriving is quite verbose and shows signs of channeling. We may never know exactly what “really” happened in that tent or what moved him to possibly disregard the safety of people, but one thing is for certain, it needs to be examined beyond the $10,000.00 and science. Did he tap into an energy that took him over as has been suggested by a few authors? If he did, we need to look at that energy because it is running around out there and who knows who is next.

Now let me move to the fourth leg of his spiritual training which is said to be the defiling of the Native American sweat lodge tradition. I have the blood of two tribes running through me, along with some Norwegian. One of my friends in Scandinavia was a little upset that his shamanistic tradition was being hijacked by the Native Americans. WWWWHATTTTTT?????

Yes, and he made a darned good case. Sweat Lodge or sauna is the question. Saunas are an ancient Scandinavian tradition and they can prove it. They can also prove that the Vikings came to the new world, traded and interacted with the Native Americans long before Columbus was born. Undoubtedly they brought their tradition of Sauna along with the longhouse we see in the Native American architecture of several northern tribes and maybe even a few gods (coyote, trickster, Loki). Let’s see. You go into a small room or hut with a small fire heating rocks on which water is poured to produce steam so you can sweat the impurities out of your body for a purging of mind, body and spirit. Am I talking about a sauna or a sweat lodge? The Vikings had their shaman that traveled on every ship and often doubled as a navigator with his magic stone (Iolite) that let him see the stars in daylight. Probably the first thing he did upon arriving in the New World was build a sauna to get months of travel grime out of his pores. I think a lot of people need to get off their high horses. There is more cross pollination than you know about it.

Let’s all calm down, wait for the medical examiner’s report and see what law enforcement has to say as they are not known for their spirituality. Then let’s see if we can piece together what happened by asking the right questions of the participants. Let’s find some staff members and get their perspective on what happened and what they were instructed to do. Only after we have all this information, can we draw a conclusion which may or may not be right. And lastly, we need to know what preparation James Ray took before this seminar to determine what physical and mental state he was in. Did he fast? Did he need medication he stopped taking or did take some he shouldn‘t have? All we know for sure is people died, people got sick, people paid $10,000.00 and a hot tent was involved. Anything else is speculation and fiction at this point.

Sorry folks, but I am Druid. We tend to look at all sides of a dispute before passing judgment. If you want to revoke my membership in the spiritual, new age, pagan, whatever movement, go ahead. I am waiting for more information.

And it came. It seems James Ray was not in the tent and it was his “staff” that prevented CPR being administrated and the people from leaving. It is very possible they had already pulled him out and in what condition we have no idea. Temperatures reached 140 degrees F. He could not have not been affected. He could not have been leading the group and managing the fire, the steam and the physical sweat lodge. It is simply physically impossible. He is currently on his lecture circuit which leads me to believe this person is either not well balanced or well drugged, and he looked the latter on TV tonight.

You have to be very careful who you put your trust in, even when you are the leader. I have seen actors and actresses put in life threatening positions and put in severe conditions to perform when they were in no condition to be out of bed. You have no idea the guilt they can heap on you when you due on stage whether it be speaking, doing readings or performing. I know I would be getting a wheel barrel full if some people knew I was turning down jobs, but I am awaiting another operation. I am too weak to do a lot of things. A leader can become as trapped as a follower in these situations. I’ve seen drugs given to people, alcoholism managed and even physical threats if you didn’t get out on stage. It is a common practice. Hey, look at Michael Jackson. “Here, just take a little. It’ll help you stay awake, perform or relax.” Honeys, I’ve had the hand out to me even in such lowly places as stores when they wanted me to read a double shift and the answer has always been: NO! “If you don’t make this engagement you will never work again.” Well, I’m still working but I’ve had that one hurled at me too. What goes on behind the curtain is not that pretty when you are the support of a cast or family.

And now it comes out James Ray was professional body builder…yup….no drugs in that profession….wink…wink. Never, ever give up the power over your life to another person no matter how well they promise to take care of you. It’s them they are taking care of.
