Neptune enters Pisces; first time since 1848.

Neptune - the planet associated with oceans, liquids, chemicals, gases, melting, evaporation, the higher self, imagination, intuition, deception and disillusion - was only discovered in 1846, when it was in the very last degrees of Aquarius.

In 1848, Neptune began a 14 year journey through Pisces, and proceeded through all of the other Zodiac Signs until when, just a few short months ago, it returned to the last degrees of Aquarius, where it was discovered 160+ years ago.

Neptune takes about 165 years to travel the Zodiac. Each time you experience Neptune in a particular Zodiac sign, you can be assured it will be the first AND last time you will see that (assuming you live less than 165 years on Earth, of course).

After Neptune's discovery, Astrologers assigned it as the ruler of Pisces, since Neptune entered Pisces at or near the time of discovery. The ability to do or act depends upon power, and the source of that power. If you are like me, addicted to caffeine, you may reach for a third or fourth cup of coffee to give you that extra boost. Or maybe you get a second wind by going to the gym, or taking a short nap.

But lasting power isn't found at the bottom or a cup, or cocktail glass. Nor does it come via iron dumbbells or endless hours of texting or calling friends.

Real power comes from Source, call it what you will: God, Lord, the Almighty, Christ, Buddha, Universal Cause, Life Force, the One.

Four Dreaded Words: Let's take a break.

Things aren't perfect in your relationship, but pretty darned good all things considered. Or so you think. And then, after several months or even years, s/he says: Let's take a break. Or worse yet, s/he takes a break and forgets to tell you.

Sometimes it seems harmless enough and comes in the form of "I need some space", or "I'm going away for the Summer" or "I need to some time to think".

Even if YOU have been wanting a break yourself, suddenly the whole idea of space, breaks, and distance doesn't seem like such a good idea. In fact, your stomach may be in knots, your migraine kicks in, and your dinner which was delicious when you ate it now sits like a indigestible stone.

After 40+ years of counseling people, first as a vocal and acting coach, next as a CPA and financial advisor, and for many years now as a therapist, counseling, psychic and life coach, I can promise you - guarantee you - that "breaks, space, and distance" are exactly what your relationship needs.

Yes, I know. It's not what YOU think it needs. But the other person thinks so. And guess what - in a partnership, if one partner changes the game, the game is changed whether you voted for it or not. That's the hellish part of all this bonding and connecting we seek. It does put us in position of being the at the mercy of the other person at a moment's notice.

How you handle such a request, or demand, will determine in great measure whether you two ever find your way back to each other. So memorize the rules for survival:

1) Agree wholeheartedly that a break, distance or separate vacations is just fine, and maybe preferable. If you can squeak out the words, mention you'd been thinking the same thing of late.

2) Ask the person how much time away from the relationship is likely enough.

3) Be prepared for vague, nonspecific hemming and hawing in terms of time away. Rarely will a person say: "I need 90 days to get my bills paid off so I can think about you for a change." or "Let me find a job - it should take about 6 months - then I'll be back with money in my pocket and we'll take a vacation." If your partner does say that, you are in great shape and should agree right away.

4) If the person has zero answers for you regarding #2, above, then YOU say: Let's not visit, email, phone, text for 90 days. I'll call you around (fill in the blank) Easter, Labor Day, Halloween and I'll take you out for lunch and we can talk about whether we see ourselves as a couple, or just great friends.

5) Referring to #4, above, you MUST set limits on this sudden infliction of "no man's land". Otherwise, you will make yourself crazy every day wondering "is this the day he's gonna miss me enough to call". And you won't have to check your email, voicemails and texts every 30 seconds, either.

6) NO CONTACT means NO CONTACT. Do NOT fall into the black pit of hell meaning s/he calls at will for friendly chat that leaves you miserable and walking on more egg shells with every day. If your "I want space" friend starts the chat/call/write/come over scenario, it's up to YOU to put a stop to it. Remember - space is a good thing. Space punctuated by contact over which you have no control and that is purposeless except to give the other person comfort and too much control - well, it's a BAD THING FOR YOU. So do not do it!

7) Assuming you've stayed away from each other for the 90 days, or 5 weeks, or whatever you decide, then make contact at the appointed time, go to lunch as promised, and be prepared to have some sane conversation about regrouping and reconnecting, or about going separate ways. There are few choices in between, so do not stretch out the "I need space" for any longer than 90 days.

8) If you are in the middle of one of these no man land ventures, and you missed your chance to set some boundaries and make this work for you, then try to get on board with the time limits, the end point, and the "I'll call you" so YOU have some SAY over this big gap in your life.

9) Rarely does time away for "thinking" amount to anything good for your relationship. It can, but it almost never does. So during the time apart, give yourself some really good hours to think, assess, revisit who you are, what you want, and devise a plan to put your life on the right track. You might be surprised - after all that thinking it might occur to you - hey, I don't want that person back!

10) Try to pry some reasons out of the other person. A break, or a break up, can be very enlightening, if you give the person a nonthreatening chance to tell the truth about why. Most people will avoid telling you what it is that is annoying them, though. But gently pry. It's your best chance for feedback, ever.

Bottom line, make the most of a break in a relationship. It isn't the end of the world, and may not be the end of a relationship, but it can be the beginning of you getting to know you better, and making better choices in the future.

When Mars Turns On You!

Yes, it's true. Today, January 23/24, 2012, Mars is standing still (or so it looks), turning on its heel, soon to be creeping backwards until April 13/14, 2012.

In mid-April, Mars appears to stand still again, as if rethinking and reconsidering, and then moves back to where Mars is today.

It will take until June 21/22, 2012 (Yes, the Summer Solstice!) before Mars retraces its path and returns to the point in the Zodiac where it is today.

Mars represents men, energy, war, disagreements, hostility, sexual attraction and rowdiness. When Mars stands in place, those qualities are emphasized. When Mars moves backwards, or retrogrades, those qualities retreat and become less pronounced.

What does this mean for you?

Periods of Mars Retrograde affect some people more than others. Not every Mars Retrograde period will touch your life.

Mars is zig zagging in Virgo, between 3 and 23 degrees. For Virgos, this zig zag will affect your Sun, and thus yourself. You must REST, and avoid any excessive show of rage, anger, or extreme exercise. If you go against this suggestion, the results may be less than desirable.

Mars' path also affects Pisces Sun Signs since your Sun will be opposite Mars. Pisceans are also urged to take it easy, conserve energy, etc.

Any Sun Signs that are 90 degrees away from Mars will likely need to tamp down aggression. Affected are Gemini and Sagittarians. Keep in the forefront of your mind that the anger you feel needs to be dissipated in nonagressive ways, such as gentle exercise, bike rides, etc.

In your LOVE LIFE, out of the blue you may long for that great guy or gal that you let slip through your fingers. Strong wishes to reconnect with former partners, or dreams of those folks, could set your imagination on fire. Just don't read too much into this, nor act on these urges at the present moment. By the time Fourth of July rolls around, and Mars is safely away from Virgo, you can decide with a clear head whether you need to reach out to someone from years ago. By that time, you will likely have forgotten all about that person anyway.

REJECTION: To refuse to accept someone or something.

Is it possible to be inspired by the topic of rejection? Rejection seems to harsh and hurtful, so final. It's something most of us fear, and go out of our way to avoid at all costs.

If you abide by the spiritual belief that morals, principles, ethics and good acts are desirable, then sooner or later we will come upon a person, place, thing, event or personal quality that we find unacceptable. Then what do we do? When is it OK, desirable, necessary to reject someone or something?

If you find a personal quality or characteristic within your own behavior patterns, the spiritual teachers will tell us to get busy and change our ways. They will advise us to reject our unacceptable patterns and replace with better ones.

But what if you find personal qualities or characteristics in your partner, or your new boyfriend, or even a long time friend, that are unacceptable? Then what?

The single most difficult adjustment I see people make is the one that occurs when they realize that what they thought was true about someone turns out to be false. A boyfriend cheats. A best friend betrays. A parent abuses. A boss harasses. Then what?

When the OTHER PERSON needs to change in order for YOU to find their behaviors acceptable, and they don't change, can't change, won't change, think YOU should change, then what? At what point does something or someone become so unacceptable to you that you must - MUST - reject them?

These are deeply personal questions and struggles that sooner or later we will all face. To grow spiritually, however, we must be able to stand up for our principles and to compromise on the nonessential and inconsequential things, while being firm on what we stand for and stand against.

Sometimes, after stress and strain, heart ache and indecision, it is REJECTION we decide upon, and we eliminate contact, interaction, closeness, with someone who has been our dearest friend, colleague, or mate. Or we throttle down the interaction to a much lesser form of contact and a best friend becomes a casual acquaintance, or a mate becomes a co-parent with whom we have a strained and barely cordial relationship.

The repercussions of these rejections range all the way from a feeling of relief, to regret, self-doubt, confusion, and often a change of heart that takes us right back into a relationship or friendship or work environment that we once left behind good sound reasons.

And woe be to the folks who are promised change by that mate, boss, friend only to find out that there has been no change and that the pain of being close to that person is as bad or worse as ever before.

What's the message?

I think the message is that we must grow a strong backbone and create a clear mind.

I think we are happiest when we give someone or a situation the benefit of the doubt once, twice, or three times.

I think we are ultimately calmer and more peaceful when we know we can trust ourselves to make good, strong, principled decisions for our own benefit and are willing to pay the price to do so, when the situation calls for it.

I think that rejection, properly applied, is a learning tool for the recipient as well. Have you rejected your child's request to drink and smoke? Have you rejected the unwanted advances of an inappropriate person? Setting boundaries is a spiritual imperative!

And I know, and have observed for over 40 years of counseling people, that a spiritually centered person is more capable of rejecting the unacceptable and sticking to their principles than a person who has nothing but feelings and emotions to lead them to true and lasting answers.

In the end, you will find that REJECTION of the unacceptable is a necessary and desirable tool to have in your spiritual arsenal and, properly and judiciously and wisely applied, it will elevate your level of balance and peace.

Will He Change?

8) We want him to see that his kids with the ex are causing problems between us.

      Stop drinking and drugging;
      Be OK with our kids, even if they are spoiled rotten and have no discipline;
      Spend more time with us, even if it means cutting back work hours;
      Listen to us and agree with our assessment of his shortcomings;
      Never look at another woman as long as he lives;
      Love us no matter what, and no matter how fat we are, or mean we are.

...and I could go on.

But you get the point.

Let me make it easy for all of us, men and women. People EVOLVE. People GROW. People BECOME. People do not CHANGE.

If you are sitting at home eating ice cream out of the carton and wondering: will he call me and want to get back together again, sorry for his behavior, and eternally in love with me and wanting to marry me because he CHANGED? let me save you a phone call. The answer is NO.

Before you conclude I have no faith in humanity's ability to become enlightened, let me explain. However, it takes self-awareness, a personal decision to expand on the good in one's soul and minimize or eliminate the less desirable, and it takes enormous perseverance and dedication to carry this out on a daily basis through decades of life.

Has your guy (or gal) exhibited ANY of these qualities? Saying, "I'm sorry. Let's get back together" does NOT qualify in any one of the above categories, by the way.

Has your guy/gal done ANY of these things that spell real change:
     Joined a 12 step program,
     Found religion and is actively practicing that religion,
     Sought therapy on his own and is regularly attending sessions,
     Gotten appropriate medication and is taking it as prescribed,
     Noticeably altered behavior patterns over a long period of time,
     Acknowledged a true understanding of how his actions have derailed your life?

If the answer to any one of the above questions is "yes", then your True Love is in the process of blossoming, evolving, growing. But remember this, and this is true for you, me, and everyone: We are who we are, and if we cease our devotion to self-improvement, self-healing, self-awareness, spiritual growth, healthy living, we go right back to our default settings. It's how we are built - all of us.

As we enter a New Year, here's something so simple that it's often overlooked:

The Christmas Eve NEW MOON - a Blessed Calm

The last NEW MOON of the year occurs on December 24th, 2011 at 108 PM ET, 1008 AM PT. This is the last change to plant seedlings that will sprout and grow strong in the New Year.

This NEW MOON occurs in Capricorn at 2+ degrees (there are 30 degrees in each sign, 360 degrees in total, divided into the 12 zodiac signs.)

What IS a NEW MOON? It is a time of rebirth, beginnings, new directions.

The New Moon is considered the end of one 28/29 day Moon Cycle, and the beginning of a new 28/29 day Moon Cycle. Think of it as a period, a big breath, and a new paragraph in your Life Story.

So if you need a fresh look, a new goal, a turn of events, a bit more hope, this is an important moment for you. Take a moment to set your intentions, say your prayers, visualize your new desires. Who are the most famous Astrologers?

It's here! The time of year most enjoy and some dread. Earlier and earlier we see lights, candy canes, Santa Claus, trees, reds & greens, wreaths, wrapping paper, bows, and oh so much food! The preparations can start weeks in advance. Whether you are a year long Christmas fan, or a mad dasher last minute shopper, there's always some forethought that goes into the Big Day.

So let's talk preparation for a minute. Preparation for the FIRST Christmas. Hmmm... Now there's new thought.

First, you have a hugely pregnant Mary. That's nine months of preparation right there. As my Spiritual Advisor of many years ago had to point out to me, a renowned blabber mouth, "Mary pondered these things in her HEART" (not her mouth). In other words, Mary's preparations were quiet, calm, and for the most part, SILENT. (No way anyone would know from HER what was happening!)

And from "The East", we have another preparation taking place - the Magi. The Three Wise Men. Oh yes! THEY prepared, too! How do you think they got themselves from "The East" all the way to Bethlehem on the rear portion of a camel? They didn't fly Dubai Airlines!

The Wise Men, known as The Magi, were exceptionally gifted Astrologers. The first and possibly the most famous Astrologers of all time.

They calculated where on the globe this conjunction would be most powerful and at what exact moment. Bingo! Bethlehem! Saddle the camels - we're going!

The conjunction of planetary phenomena indicated a unique, powerful birth of an individual who would be Over All, Above All, Blessed.

Winter Solstice - A Moment of Peace

Winter Solstice occurs this coming week. There's time to prepare. Exact time is:
1231PM ET Thursday, December 22
931PM PT Wednesday, December 21.

The Winter Solstice is, for the Northern Hemisphere, the shortest day in the year. That means Sunlight shines for the least number of hours/minutes that day, and darkness lasts for the longest number of hours/minutes.

For our cousins in the Southern Hemisphere, December 21/22 marks the longest day of sunlight and the shortest nighttime.

From December 21/22 to June 21/22 of any year, the number of minutes of sunlight gradually increases, until the LONGEST day (in the Northern Hemisphere) occurs in June, called the Summer Solstice. And the precision of the Universe continues in perpetuity, for our own personal awe and wonder.

If you feel an affinity with the Universe as a whole, and the magic and miracles of Spirit that hold this whole experience together, you may want to take a moment and appreciate the quiet, calm and peace of that longest period of darkness.

It's doubtful we can change our whole entire Holiday Habit to become a hermit during this time of year, and who would want to? But could we at least calm down a little? Do a little less? Rest a little more? Set aside 10-20 minutes a day for Prayer, Meditation, Sacred Time? I think so!

Oh no! I do not want to learn Tarot. I could care less. I don't believe in that. Those cards are weird and scary. NO CARDS! I don't get it. It doesn't make sense to me. I like Clairvoyant Psychics better. I hear those comments coming towards me as I write this. I have said the exact same things, and much more!

So trust me on this - a little knowledge of many things is a recipe for wisdom.

OK - let's begin.

Tarot - what is it/them/those? 78 Cards in great big oversized deck that you can barely handle, much less shuffle. Every card has a meaning, or so they say, and the art work - oh it is so dense and dark, except for those other cards that are light and airy. Or the cards that are exquisitely beautiful. And who knows how to pronounce the word? Tu-ROH? TAY-ro? Tarrot rhymes with carrot? So confusing! And who the heck thought all this stuff up? Where did it come from? How can you trust something that has a murky past?

The history of the Tarot IS murky but likely grew from the same root as the traditional deck of 52 playing cards. Think of a Tarot card as a stone tablet with pictures that have been updated to a piece of paper with art that tells a story. The Tarot deck is really a BOOK of 78 pages, and each page tells a story.

A Tarot Card = One Idea or Concept. 78 Ideas or Concepts create a nearly infinite combination of thought, philosophy, stories, beliefs and ideas.

The Tarot is divided into two groups: MINOR and MAJOR. The MINOR cards are very similar to the traditional deck of playing cards. There are FOUR SUITS, and each suit has FOUR additional cards in that suit, whereas a traditional deck of cards has only THREE additional cards.

For example: A traditional deck of playing cards has four suits, each one containing thirteen cards:
Ace, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, plus Jack, Queen, King.

A TAROT deck has four suits, each on containing fourteen:
Ace,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, plus Page, Knight, Queen, King.

A TAROT deck has an additional 22 Cards that are numbered 1-21 PLUS the Fool Card which often carries the number of ZERO. The Fool Card is similar to the Joker in a traditional deck of playing cards and each more than likely derived from the same root oh so many centuries ago.

Get up and get yourself that old dusty deck of playing cards off the shelf, and let me show you something amazing.

HEARTS       = CUPS
CLUBS         = WANDS
DIAMONDS = PENTACLES
SPADES       = SWORDS

Find the Ace of Hearts and set it before you. This card is the same, with the same meanings, as the Ace of Cups in the Tarot. In fact, you can do exceptional readings with playing cards. Those were the only cards I used for many years and they were more than sufficient. All that fancy art work on a Tarot CAN enhance your imaginations and intuition, but it can also be a distraction in my opinion. So you give up nothing by using playing cards to learn with. The additional 22 cards (see above) can be set aside as you are learning anyway.

Ace of Hearts (CUPS) is what your intuition is telling you it is:
Soul, heart, love, warmth, caring, the spark of emotion, attachment, attraction and you can continue to add your own synonyms for these words, and expand upon your understanding of this lovely card.

ACE = BEGINNING, first, prime, inception, conception, a new idea, a new anything, the seed, the seedling, a tendril, a bud, small and tiny but existing.

News Alert: Mercury Changes It's Mind - AGAIN! (and an Offer)

Mercury, the planet closest to the Sun, changes it's mind AGAIN Tuesday, December 13th. Remember Mercury is named for the qualities found in the element Mercury, which is liquid at room temperatures and is responsive to temperature changes. Thus, Mercury was used (and still is) in thermometers and other measuring devices. It's also called "Quicksilver" for obvious reasons - it's silver in color and moves quickly.

So back to the Planet Mercury - it moves quickly, changes directions frequently, stops dead in it's tracks at least three times a year, etc.

On December 13th, Mercury will have appeared to move backwards for about 3 weeks (known as the Mercury Retrograde) and will stand still (Astrologers call it "Mercury Station") at 3+ degrees on Sagittarius.

Then Mercury trudges slowly at first, then gains speed and movement, returning to the 20th degree of Sagittarius on January 1 & 2, 2012, which is the degree of the zodiac where Mercury Stationed on November 24th before moving backwards.

For those of you who are dizzy with this explanation, in plain English Mercury moved backwards for three weeks and it will take Mercury another three weeks to get back where it started.

Keep in the back of your mind that Mercury is closely associated with two zodiac signs - Gemini and Virgo. In Gemini, Mercury gives the qualities of a quick mind, a quick tongue, multi-dimensional interests, and an ability to talk for hours about almost nothing. In Virgo, Mercury lends precision the tendency to size things up, to measure and assess and to hold people to a high level of perfection.

When Mercury is in it's six week Retrograde/Regroup time, the Gemini and Virgo Sun Signs are urged to regroup themselves, and the other ten signs are encouraged to be cautions about speech, thought, any and all things that related to travel or movement - cars, computers, luggage, contracts, etc.

So don't be surprised if this week you change your mind about many things, people, and directions. But take a page from the Mercury playbook - don't rush into or out of anything. Instead, put everything in the slow cooker set on low, and think about things. Walk slowly. Speak less. Listen more - really listen!!

Mercury does not barrel full force around the Sun at top speed breaking all known Solar System marathon records. NO! Mercury darts forward. Then says - oh wait I forgot something let me go back. So Mercury saunters back. Then slowly stretches, yawns and moseys on down the road. And Mercury looks like a pretty happy camper to me. How do I know? Because Mercury does this over and over and over again, every year. So it's gotta be working for her!

Why don't, as you plan YOUR 2012, build in some "oh wait I forgot something let me go back" moments, rather than pushing yourself internally to always BE or GO or DO MORE and MORE and MORE? You were built for ebbs and flows - for moving forwards and then moving back a little bit. You are meant to have periods of rest and quiet thought. To rob yourself of that is to deny your place in this vast Universe.

A drama in the Sky and on Earth!

That's what you can expect early Saturday, December 10, 2011 through the New Moon on Saturday, December 24.

I don't know about your family, but my family doesn't need any more drama! YIKES! What to do?

First, let's take full advantage of the beauty that Earth/Moon/Sun have designed for us. The Moon is FULL, meaning the entire half of the illuminated Moon is facing the Earth square on, big as a punkin' pie in the sky. THAT is so beautiful in and of itself. BUT - if you've never seen a Lunar Eclipse - bounce yourselves outta bed early on Saturday, if you are in the Mid-West or Western USA, and treat yourself to a big cup o' coffee, a pecan sticky bun, and the Lunar Eclipse right in your own sky.

The Eclipse begins around 330 AM PT but you won't notice much til about 445 AM. The FULL ECLIPSE occurs at 606 AM. So for you lazy bones (that would be me) set your alarm for 430 AM to catch the full spectacle. It's a sight you will not soon forget.

How will this register in your own life?

The Sun is at 18+ Sagittarius and Moon at 18+ Gemini. That's what makes it a FULL MOON - Sun/Moon are exactly opposite each other in the sky.

Most influenced will be people who have the Sun, Moon or some other planet in the Natal Chart exactly at 18+ Sagittarius or Gemini. Also equally influenced will be those people who have Sun, Moon or some other planet exactly 90 degrees away, or 18+ Virgo/Pisces.
