thejake420   How to copy any DVD - Guaranteed!

Welcome to the world of DVD backups. This advice is for copying any DVD that you own to your choice of:

  • DVD-R or DVD-RW (You must have a DVD-R burner.)
  • DVD+R or DVD+RW (You must have a DVD+R burner.)
  • VCD (Video CD, on CD-R media. Approximately VHS quality. You must have a CD burner.)
  • SVCD (Super VCD, on CD-R media. Almost, but not quite, DVD quality. You must have a CD burner.)

I will explain the best of both worlds, from commercial software products to freeware products, and will offer honest and straightforward advice for all products, including the pros and cons of each. Keep in mind that the commercial products I recommend have been thoroughly tested and meet or exceed my requirements, and tend to be considerably simpler than their freeware counterparts, but if you want to stick with freeware, I'm your guy.

I will also explain any terms you may be unfamilar with, such as Region Coding, NTSC or PAL, CSS, Macrovision, and so forth. My advice can be taken at face value, and withstands the "real life" test, as I run the fastest-growing DVD help site on the web. In other words, I'm not a 14 year old kid in his mom's basement. I am a qualified DVD backup professional. I actually teach people this sort of thing for a living.

If you prefer, I also offer a completely free version of this advice at the site listed below. However, if you would like personal one-on-one advice on the DVD backup process, I will be glad to assist you via this Keen listing. This listing is for live telephone advice only. I will not reply to emails from this listing.

Who am I?

I'm Jake Russell, and I put my name and professional reputation behind everything that I recommend. Simply by reading this page, you have earned a free membership at my site (remember when I mentioned that I did this for a living?).

Please note that although this information may be used for both legal and less-than-legal purposes, do not expect me to tell you how to pirate movies, or where to find pirated movies. I will not tell you that it is OK to copy DVDs that you do not own. I respect copyright laws, and expect others to respect them as well. The fair use clause in copyright law means "fair" use, and renting DVDs to copy is not covered by this.
