How do I collect the money I generate on KEEN?
We deposit the amount generated during each call into your account. After that, you can either have
the money electronically sent to your bank account via Direct Deposit, or by requesting a check.
Please note that transactions which occur between 11-12 PM PST may not be debited from your Keen account on the date the transaction began, even if that transaction ends before 12PM PST. It may be included in the following day's payout due to Keen's payment processing system.
For example: if a transaction began at 11:45PM on 1/13/16 and ended on that same date, or ran over and ended after 12:01AM on 1/14/16, the earnings for this transaction may not be included in the payout for 1/13/16. It may roll over to the next day (01/14/16). This applies to all transaction types, including chats and for all payment method types (express pay, monthly direct deposit or check).
Using Direct Deposit
With a US bank account you can get your earnings electronically sent to your bank account two ways:
- Monthly Direct Deposit
-- Your earnings will be electronically sent to your bank account once a month.
Express Pay ™ -- Your earnings will be electronically sent to your bank account every business day, and you'll receive the funds in your bank account about a week after you earned them.
You may change your Direct Deposit preferences at any time. Each time your earnings are withdrawn, a debit will appear
in your Transaction Details. Within 7 Business days, these will be credited to your bank account.
What if I don't have a US Bank Account?
Monthly Direct Deposit
When you select Monthly Direct Deposit, we'll electronically send your eligible earnings* to your bank within 7 business days after they are debited from your account. Your bank will then deposit these funds into your account (example calendar below).
To request Monthly Direct Deposit please select "Request Direct Deposit" from the right hand corner of the My Keen page and follow the prompts. After the form has been submitted, we review your application for accuracy and to ensure we're able to provide Direct Deposit to you. This process typically takes about 10 business days (or two weeks). Direct Deposit payments will begin the month your application is approved. If your application remains outstanding at the end of the month, we'll mail you a paper check, and Direct Deposit will begin the following month.
Monthly Direct Deposit will be made as long as you selected to be paid by Monthly Direct Deposit at 11:30pm PST on the
last day of every month.
Monthly Direct Deposit is provided at no additional charge.
What if I don't see the "Direct Deposit" link?
Express Pay ™
When you select Express Pay, we'll deduct your earnings from your account on a daily basis (Monday through Friday, excluding Holidays). Each business day, we'll check to see what you had selected for Direct Deposit as of 11:30 pm PST the previous day: Monthly or Express Pay. If you've selected Express Pay, we'll send all your eligible earnings* to your bank account.
For example, on Monday morning we will debit all funds that are eligible to be paid. This would include all funds you
earned until 11:30pm PST the previous day. We will then send these funds to your bank by Thursday. Funds debited from
your account on Tuesday will be sent to your bank by Friday. This process is repeated every business day
(example calendar below). Exactly when your funds will arrive in your bank account
depends on your bank. It is our experience that you can typically expect to see your funds in your bank account 7
business days after they are debited from your account.
Electronic Payment Calendar:
To request Express Pay please visit Payment Info from the My Account
page and click the Request Direct Deposit link. Please complete the form and select the radio
button next to Express Pay. After the form has been submitted, we review your application for accuracy and to ensure we're able to provide Direct Deposit to you. This process typically takes
about 10 business days (or two weeks). You will see the first Express Pay deduction the first business day after your
application is approved. If your application remains outstanding at the end of the month, we'll mail you a paper check, and then Express Pay will begin the following business day after your application is approved.
There is a 2% fee for this service, which will be deducted from your eligible earnings when the funds transfer is initiated.
What if I don't see the "Direct Deposit" link?
Requesting a Check
During any month in which you have at least $15 in your account that is eligible to be paid*, you may request that a
check be mailed to you.
When you select Request a Check, we'll mail your eligible earnings to your address on file via Post within 7 business
days after the 1st business day of the month. It is our experience that you can generally expect to receive your check
between 15th and 21st of every month depending on where you live.
To Request a Check please visit Payment Info from the My Account
page and click the Request your check link to fill out the Check Request Form.
As long as the box next to "Request Check" has been selected by 11:30 pm PST, you'll automatically be paid for your eligible earnings* every month. You do not need to check the box every month. You can request a check at any time during the month, even if you have yet to earn enough to be paid. If your earnings at the end of the month are at least $15, we'll send you a check. If you don't want to be paid at any time, just unselect the box.
Currently, there is no charge for requesting a check. However, we
reserve the right to charge $2.00 for each time we
process a paper check.
If you do not reside in the U.S. you are still able to receive payment for the services you provide using our system by
requesting a check to be sent to you.
If you do not reside in the U.S., or you do not have a U.S. Phone number on file, you will not see the Request Direct
Deposit link on your my Account page, but you may still be able to receive Direct Deposit through your bank. One option
may be to open a US account. To do this you do need to be physically in the US to open the account. Before you make the
trip, we strongly suggest you contact the Bank you are considering opening an account with to ensure they are able to
Another, and perhaps better option, is to open an account with a bank that offers US dollar accounts. In Canada for
example, we have done some research for you and have learned that
TD Canada Trust,
Scotiabank, and the
Bank of Montreal all offer US dollar banking
solutions. We suggest checking with your current bank to learn if they are also able to provide a service; otherwise you
may contact one of the above banks if you live in Canada.
To obtain direct deposit through KEEN your bank account must have a US Routing number (which is exactly 9 digits)
and a corresponding account number. We can not guarantee that the banks listed above are able to provide you with an
account that we are able to pay to; please inform your bank why you need this account and the information we require
before you open an account. Once you've confirmed that you have an account with the aforementioned routing and account
number, please visit (click or cut/paste into new browser) the below link to request Direct Deposit:
* Eligible to be paid - To be paid, you must have at least $10 more in eligible funds than "Balance to Be Left in Account" (which you choose). Minimum "Balance to Be Left in Account" must be equal to or greater than $5.00. Funds which are eligible to be paid are any funds earned through Live Calls, Live Chats, Recorded Calls, Paid Mail or Group Calls. Funds which are added from a Paypal account, credit card or from a Gift Certificate are not eligible to be paid to you. Except when specified, funds credited to your account for Special Offers or other Promotions will also not be paid out.
1099-K Federal Tax Reporting
Reporting your Taxes
KEEN, Ingenio and Ether, as third-party settlement organizations, are required by law to report total amount of annual gross transactions collected from customers on behalf of advisors on Form 1099-K for those who meet the following thresholds in a calendar year:
- More than $20,000 in aggregate annual gross transactions (total amount collected from customers on behalf of advisors through KEEN, Ingenio or Ether, unadjusted for any fees or commissions advisors may incur operating their personal advice businesses)
- More than 200 paid transactions
If you have multiple accounts on KEEN, Ingenio or Ether, annual gross transactions of all accounts with the same Tax Identification Number (TIN), will be aggregated to determine if you meet the 200 transactions and $20,000 USD threshold. The total annual aggregate gross amount of transactions will be then reported on one Form 1099-K. Accounts with different TINs will be aggregated separately by TIN.
Non U.S. Taxpayers
IRS regulations require non U.S. taxpayers to provide Form W-8BEN to us in order to be exempt from U.S. tax reporting requirements. For non-US advisors, we will contact you separately to collect this information.
What will happen if I meet Form 1099-K thresholds but do not request payment?
Keen is required to comply with the IRS 1099-K tax regulations. We ask that all members of the Keen advisor community provide accurate, updated tax information. If you do not request payment for your earnings and meet the 1099-K criteria, Keen may suspend access to your account until your TIN (usually a Social Security Number) is securely received and verified.
