I have been boating since I was 13. I have steered (skippered) a pair of narrow boats and other craft throughout the UK canals and travelled widely on barges in mainland Europe. I bought my antique (1927) 21 m Dutch barge in 1989, converted it for cruising and residence, and have made many trips in it. I am a (founder) director of the Barge Association, and a long-time active member of the Inland Waterways Association. I edited The Barge Buyer's Handbook, and have often written for waterways magazines. I have advised many people about travelling on the waterways, buying and converting barges, and the fascinating industrial archaeology of the inland navigations. May I help you?
